Martina replied to the topic I didn't intend this as poetry, but can you look at it please? in the forum Poetry Discussions 7 years, 7 months ago
@taylorclogston I thoroughly enjoyed reading this! First: this could be described as flash fiction, if you wanted to. I would say that it qualifies very loosely as poetry– yes, the feel and lyric of it is very poetic, but the form doesn’t fit into any poetic category (rhyme, meter, blank verse, line breaks, annoying loss of punctuation).

@taylorclogston Oooookay, I was wondering who it would be for this post. 😛
I’m going to give the general disclaimer now that Daeus and I clash quite a bit on different topics, and this is one of them. xD Mostly, it’s because writing is a craft with very few “set” rules, formulas, and definitions. Lots of different things work for different…[Read more]

For those who don’t know, we are now starting to work together to post the annual theme discussion, and this time around, it’s on the exciting art of the Writing Life. This course/section won’t be super practical for right now, but maybe we can be using it later, and being sure to build up and appreciate the amazing relationships with other…[Read more]

@taylorclogston Ooh, I understand the feeling of not wanting to write. It’s tough to get through that. 🙁 Something similar happened to me recently, when I hit a block and couldn’t make myself write on my current project. I had to switch projects completely in order to restart my creative “colors.”

Woo-wie! This is a toughie! I’ve never written this sort of thing before. We should make it very emotional. Like, life or death maybe? My immediate thoughts are that we need to give…[Read more]

This time, I was aware that I wouldn’t be about. However, in the hectic mess of life, I had assumed I had asked someone to step in until things at this end were sorted out. So, either I totally forgot to do that, or no one actually took it on and it got forever lost in the…[Read more]

Well, there was definitely some foreshadowing of the twist of Jacob bringing back the sun instead of Artorius in the final labyrinth scene where Artorius is confronted by the Undying One about how his unwillingness to put aside his right predicts that he won’t be able to bring back the sun. I’m pretty sure I noticed foreshadowing…[Read more]

Hey guys!
I’m working on a synopsis for a novelette of mine and I’m looking for some critique. The title is God of Manna and it’s a symbolic, somewhat dystopian (or utopian, depending on how you look at it) fairytale.
Mortristan was startled by his father’s death.
As life under the God of Manna’s reign grows bleaker and bleaker, he resolves to r…[Read more] -

@taylorclogston, Hey, I know it’s been forever – how’s it going? Whatchu been up to lately?
-
I’m afraid I’ve been up to a lot of nothing at all. Pretty much just work, trying to not hate everything that goes into writing and being an author, and trying to figure out if there’s a single job out there I think I could bear giving every fragment of my attention to for eight or more hours a day.
How’ve you been?
-
Yeah – work work work. I’m struggling with maintaining my enthusiasm and creativity in the RPG editing, which grows more and more onerous – and I grow more and more deficient. 😐
Also working on my own stories and trying to pitch in more at Story Embers, which I suck at. Trying to finish some more of my stories so Northerner can go and critique me…[Read more] -
That sucks to hear. What exactly does RPG editing involve, and why do you think you’re deficient at it?

So far work’s been keeping me busy so I’ve only read up to page 14. Thoughts:
– What’s Circe doing in the prologue reminiscing kindly on Artorius’ plight? I thought she hated his guts at this point.
– Even though the sun isn’t blinding to look at, it seems like it would be a nice touch for Artorius to be squinting as an…[Read more]

@taylorclogston Thanks for the encouragement! And yeah, the game itself was good- it could’ve been much better, though, but it was good enough as is. I really hope they add some DLC to flesh things out a bit. If there’s one take-away from the game though, it’s making sure motives stay consistent.

@taylorclogston I did enjoy it, to an extent. It wasn’t a page-turner and was pretty slow, but I found it interesting how he approached his personal contribution to the reconstruction of the South, and how some very basic things that we often over look, can make all the difference. It’s a good reminder to not take for granted some basic…[Read more]

I’m new to this world, but my brother told me you directly proofread stories and could do it for me. Could you?-
Sorry for taking so long to get back to you! I don’t so much do proofreading (checking for mechanical errors and stuff) but I’d be happy to give feedback on higher-level stuff like structure, theme, voice, and characters. What do you have, and what specifically are you looking for?
-
I have most of the first chapter of a story I’m calling Antioch. I’m looking for feedback on anything I should change or am doing wrong, so I can fix it from the start and end any bad writing habits before they begin.
-
I’d be happy to! Send me a link here or to itaylorclogston@gmail.com

Thanks will do.
-
Hey again! There was little enough of this here that I did proofreading rather than the higher-level stuff I usually do.
Did you take IEW as a writing curriculum? It teaches a writing method that leads to the sorts of sentence structures I’m seeing in your story.
In general, I don’t think there’s enough here for me to critique high level stuff.…[Read more]
