Sorry for taking so long to get back to you! I don’t so much do proofreading (checking for mechanical errors and stuff) but I’d be happy to give feedback on higher-level stuff like structure, theme, voice, and characters. What do you have, and what specifically are you looking for?
I have most of the first chapter of a story I’m calling Antioch. I’m looking for feedback on anything I should change or am doing wrong, so I can fix it from the start and end any bad writing habits before they begin.
I’d be happy to! Send me a link here or to itaylorclogston@gmail.com
Thanks will do.
Hey again! There was little enough of this here that I did proofreading rather than the higher-level stuff I usually do.
Did you take IEW as a writing curriculum? It teaches a writing method that leads to the sorts of sentence structures I’m seeing in your story.
In general, I don’t think there’s enough here for me to critique high level stuff. What we have isn’t terribly interesting to me, but it sets up Hawk as a whiny teenager who needs to go off on his hero’s journey pretty well. You need to work quite a lot on your mechanics, but those are easy to learn. Making sure you separate your paragraphs properly, punctuate properly, use varying sentence structure, and making your characters have more unique voices will improve your writing many times over.
Good luck with your story, and thanks for letting me read it! If you improve your mechanics, I’d be happy to read more as you write it. Feel free to send me any questions you might have.
