Hey guys! Sorry, I’ve been traveling and pretty much without internet. This is a perfectly fine place to place your word counts. I’ll be calculating the winner as soon as I’m able.

Okay, guys. Here it is.
And again, just in case:
It’s a rough draft.
I only have one request: Please read the whole thing before commenting or editing.
And if you have time (or if you don’t have time for commenting or editing), post here and tell me how it makes you feel. Or how it makes you…[Read more]

OKAY, folks. Apparently, I have the esteemed position of Featured Guild Member. And not only that — I’m also the first featured guild member, so I can’t piggy-back of off previous examples because there are no previous examples. Which means I have to trailblaze this thing, WHICH MEANS…
This is the long-winded way of saying, “I have no idea…[Read more]

Hey guys,
It’s me. Normally, each week we focus on our theme topic — which right now is worldbuilding.
Today though, we’re going to do something different. We’re going to try, the last week of every month, to focus on one of our guild members. I’ve decided to work down the list on our guild page, so today we have our snarky elf, @ethryndal.
How…[Read more]

Sorry I’m late. This week’s word count for Good or Evil: 3,845. I think that’s a record
And I finished the story!
Word count for the finished story as of yet is: 14,627.
I’m still going to work on adding scenes and editing this next week, though. And I’ll try and post what I’ve got Friday evening.
Thank you all for your support and…[Read more]

R.M. Archer replied to the topic Do Teen Guys Cry? (help me out please) in the forum General Writing Discussions 7 years, 6 months ago
That sounds totally reasonable to me (the male characters in LotR cried multiple times and it in no way lessened their masculinity). But I’m not a guy, so I’m interested to see what the guys think.

@samuel One of my favorite characters that I can think of (at the moment) is Inej Ghafa from Six of Crows. She has an uncanny ability to move silently and is skilled with weapons (which is always cool), and despite the fact that she lives in a really dark environment, she has hope and faith that life will be better. She once thinks to herself…[Read more]

@samuel, I commiserate on Eragon. He may not be my least favorite, but he’s pretty much a block of wood. Murtagh forever. It should have been Murtagh’s story.
Oh boy though, now I gotta choose… D: Heellllpppp!
Okay. I’m probably gonna get a lot of backlash here… Least favorite character. *braces self* Luke Skywalker. I know there’s a whole…[Read more]

Hello @samuel, and thanks for tagging me in this, @noahlitle.
One of my favourite characters (I can’t narrow it down very far!) is probably Horton from Horton Hears a Who. I love that movie altogether but Horton is really intriguing because of the way he is willing to see things from a different perspective. He is open to different ideas about t…[Read more]

Hey, @samuel.
My favorite character would have to be Linus Larrabee from the 1995 movie Sabrina, which also happens to be my all-time-favorite movie. (not the 1954 movie it was based on. and definitely not the 2018 movie! that one is something different.)
I’m not sure why I like him. There’s too many things I like about him, really. XD
I gu…[Read more]

Dear Saxon Scribe,
Imagine you’re a Viking or one of those other early explorers of America. Since you were five, your grizzly uncle has told you stories about the time his vessel was blown off course and he spied afar off a coastland peeking through the mists.
Now, twenty years older, you sit on the prow of your boat and a wild country…[Read more]

R.M. Archer replied to the topic The awful dilemma: how to explain your story world in the forum Annual Theme Discussion 7 years, 7 months ago
@samuel Those are all really good examples/things to think about. Especially “If it doesn’t contribute to character, plot, or relevant setting (ideally two of the three), cut it.” I’ll have to keep that in mind.
@eden-anderson My blog is finally back up, so here’s the article I mentioned. 🙂

Hey Saxon Scribes,
To be honest, this post is more about me learning from you all then offering any great wisdom. When you have a complex story world, anything from a fantasy world or ancient Persia, you’ve probably faced this huge dilemma.
On the one hand, readers could be extremely confused (maybe they’ll even completely misinterpret what is…[Read more]

Well guys, I really appreciate all this feedback. It looks like the three main topics everyone wants to hear about are theme, plot, and worldbuilding but worldbuilding got the most votes by a small margin. I’m thinking that’s what we’ll go with.
For those of you who write historical fiction, don’t worry! Yes, I’ll probably cover some aspects of…[Read more]
