Fantasy, I think… I like to think that I write what I read, in the sense of genres, but I read a lot, so…..

I find that writing a chapter in their point of view is a great way to get their feelings out, even if you don’t actually use it in your book. And create different reasons that the villain does things. Put her/him past regular reasoning.
