Corine replied to the topic What do you appreciate in a romance? in the forum Romance Writers 4 years, 5 months ago
Oooh I agree! There’s something special in historical romance that is very rare these days (and therefore in contemporary fiction). Chivalry is almost bittersweet in being so beautiful but also lacking.
I think with romance, as with a lot of things in writing, it’s so important to understand its purpose. It can be…[Read more]

Just to throw in another few cents to the conversation:
There’s a difference between being honourable in your own eyes and the eyes of everyone else. So an INFJ might not be doing something particularly ethical in the eyes of society/God/readers, but if they can justify their actions as having purpose (e.g. for the sake of a suffering sister), t…[Read more]

I’m interested to know what’s something that you appreciate reading about in a romance?
For example, I love seeing an exploration of the safety that couples can feel in each other’s presence. I think it’s quite a beautiful (if weak) reflection of the refuge that we find in God as His children.

Corine replied to the topic So, there is no synonym for grunt… in the forum General Writing Discussions 4 years, 5 months ago
Snort, puff, and clucked are popping into my mind but I agree, it is quite a clunky exchange to describe, especially if you don’t want to use ‘grunt’.

Yeah, I did try to link it earlier but I don’t think the spam filters/powers of the forum like it very much 😉 I’ll try to disguise it and see if it works:

Hi @eitan! So great how passionate you are about sharing the Gospel through your writing!
There are actually some really good articles on the Story Embers blog about this topic, although they do all seem to be a bit older so they might not have appeared when you were looking. If you go to the Ethics category then there’s a good list.
One of my…[Read more]

Corine replied to the topic Myers Briggs Character Question in the forum Characters 4 years, 6 months ago
Ooh I could actually contribute to this!
I’m an INFJ so I’m just going to answer from experience more so than psychological knowledge. I tend to avoid most conflict, BUT if something or someone I care deeply about is challenged, I do consider it my duty to act.
So for your character I could imagine it be the same; his general demeanour might be…[Read more]

Hello 🙂 I’m a bit late, but I thought this was an interesting topic and wanted to mention something that struck me as I was reading.
This is clearly not a view accepted by everyone but I really don’t think that it’s necessarily wrong or lazy to portray the God we know, as we know Him, in a fantasy world.
I understand that a simple copy and…[Read more]

(Hi, I’m new here, but:) Yeah, I do agree with this and I would love to implement such. However, sometimes it just leaves me paralyzed to even start such a feat. What if I do it wrong? Or what if I’ve become too preachy? And there are times that it’s better to portray the world with a lot of “gods” for an more interesting plot, I guess?

Corine replied to the topic Let's talk about representation! in the forum Characters 4 years, 6 months ago
I have a question somewhat related to representation.
What’s the best way to write about a disabled character as an able-bodied person?
I’ve heard mixed views on this. Some people think it’s best not to write a disabled MC if you yourself don’t have that disability. Others say that representation is the most important thing, and that with the…[Read more]

I might just end up repeating what’s been said before but this is a great question so here’s my take:
As mentioned, we are made in God’s image, unlike any other living thing. Therefore, we reflect certain characteristics of God, that are unique to humans among all creation. We love (not just for the benefit of ourselves or our species but for…[Read more]

Corine replied to the topic Let's talk about representation! in the forum Characters 4 years, 7 months ago
This is such an interesting (and important!) discussion.
I am a massive proponent for representation and diversity and to be honest I think it’s ridiculous that we’re now in 2020 and it’s still noteworthy if a character is ‘diverse.’ At the same time, I do agree with what’s already been said about forced diversity – both that it is a good means…[Read more]

Hello! *shy wave* I’m still knocking about, though feeling like a fraud 😶🙃😳.
November has been rouuuugghhh guys. Like just the most crazy month of the year (which is saying a lot; I finished my undergrad this year lol). Anyways, it’s been a wild ride and sadly my Nano has suffered for it. So, I’m here to cheer you guys on (because WOW you’re a…[Read more]

Oh I’ve definitely experienced being afraid to show people my writing! Very few people even know I write to be honest, I just don’t like people knowing about it and then asking questions that I don’t want to answer haha. I feel like writing is such a personal activity for me and it’s something I’ve always been in the habit of…[Read more]

@shadowwriter161 Ooh I’m glad it came up accurate! It can be a very good way of delving a little deeper into character mindsets. It does take quite a long time though, haha and I am very easily bored so I’ve only done it for my main characters before.
Also, I wanted to mention something in response to your original question about a checklist of…[Read more]
