I can say that I’ve had the problem of having no word to use many times also. The options seem kinda like you have to either make it sound like a very gruff man or a Dolores Umbridge.
I use the word ‘snort’ basically on every page I write, because there’s nothing better to use, and people don’t laugh super often in real life.
Maybe go with…[Read more]

@selah-chelyah Yeah. Very grateful. Everything works out to God’s plan in the end. I was also in a car accident when I was very young, but I don’t remember it. This car accident was the cause of my scoliosis, and my three fainting incidents, although no one can prove it. It’s made me a better person in the long run, even though I wouldn’t have…[Read more]

@selah-chelyah No problem! Glad my experiences have come to good use! I have nothing better to do with them other than write about them 🙂
I had also fainted/passed out (a few weeks prior to the time mentioned above) during an x-ray, while it was malfunctioning, which probably was the cause of my inner feelings, although in my head it made sense.…[Read more]

It wasn’t medically induced, though I have had that happen recently, and it’s really weird. I could hear every word spoken, but the ringing in my ears made it hard to concentrate in anything.

So, I started this discussion because a lot of people want to know how it feels to pass out/faint.
For the record, there are many different ways to do this. Stress, medically induced, when you get really freaked out, etc, and for me, I passed out because although my brain was fine, my heart wasn’t doing well. I knew in my head that everything w…[Read more]

You know you’re a writer when: you think howling at the moon randomly in the middle of the day is normal, and you are surprised when it’s actually not.
And, just to clear some things up: this is how it feels to pass out (in written form), because a lot of people wonder about this:
My conscious thought was understanding this information, but…[Read more]

I’m just getting used to the things that I won’t be able to do for a while.
That’s great news!

@kendralynne519
Yeah. My character is a prince, and he doesn’t like this hobo character because he’s dirty, and, well… a hobo…. but he respects him, but he doesn’t want to. Does that make sense? The only problem is that there is no word for that that I can find.

I need a word for annoyance with respect. You know when you’re looking at someone and you’re like, wow they are super annoying, but I totally respect them.
The English language is annoying! I need that word to complete a chapter in my book and I will not be able to write anything with out it. Why does the English language have a word ‘we…[Read more]

You know you’re a ….. disney fan? musician? a bit of both?…..when you have an argument with your sister as to the exact pitch of the ding when the guy (Vladimir) in the snuggly ducklings clinks his ceramic unicorns.

YESS! I’ve done this SO many times. My little sister has now gotten into the habit of pulling out another knife to protect herself just in case. I frequently remind her that if I really wanted her dead…. she would be dead….
heh heh. Not creepy at all, right?

papergirlsfb replied to the topic Said: Dead or Alive in the forum Apprentice Island Writing Discussions 3 years, 3 months ago
I wrote a book when I was a lot younger (I’m talking 7 or 8), and I re-edited it to make sure there were no ‘said’s in it, and then I learned that said is virtually pass-over-able. When I read, I never notice when the characters ‘said’ in their conversations, but I notice it a lot when authors put ‘ “Oh, hello,” she blustered. ‘ or something of…[Read more]
