YES, Sarah! I loved this article of yours SO. MUCH. You warned that it would be much more serious than your normal blog posts, but it was exactly the sort of article I’d expect from you. Witty, engaging, down-to-earth, and brilliant. I am so excited to read more of your articles here at Story Embers!!

Kendra commented on the post, 3 Reasons You Should Kill a Main Character 4 years, 9 months ago
Killing main characters needs to happen more often. That may sound brutal, and my heart breaks as I say it (thinking of all the main characters I love and will defend with my own life if necessary), but it is very, very effective and helps make a book have more of an emotional impact. My favorite books are ones that, more often than not, make me…[Read more]

Kendra commented on the post, Should You Share the Gospel in Your Novel? 4 years, 9 months ago
Very good post; I’ve wondered about this and how to effectively SHOW the gospel, not preach it in books. I, as a Christian, can’t stand preachy books, because to be painfully honest, they are dull and hard to enjoy reading.
I read the comment in which you talked about allegory and symbolism, and I think I prefer symbolism because it still…[Read more]

I’m not currently writing a sci-fi story, but I’m semi-brainstorming a futuristic/dystopian/sci-fi story about a future America. Funny; right now I’m working on a historical fiction, and my next project will be set way, way in the future. XD
It’s called 2109: Awaken (it’s set in the year 2109), and here’s three sentences to describe it (I hope):…[Read more]

@the-inkspiller I think I may have read the same roll call! I’ll probably have to end up using one of them. Right now, the marshal that appears in my story shall remain nameless. 😀 I never knew that about Oklahoma! That’s interesting. U.S. Marshals do not seem to have lasted very long anywhere. Thank you for your help!

@the-inkspiller I do have a question, actually. I’ve been trying to find a marshal of Tucson, AZ who was active during the year 1890, but I haven’t found anything. Do you happen to know of one? 🙂
-
@kendralynne518, unfortunately I do not, but I can make some time to do some additional research if required.
I was able to find a U.S. Marshals Service Roll Call which says a John Collins died in the line of duty in 08/10/1883;
Then in 1892-93, three Arizona marshals died in quick succession:
Vernon C. Wilson, 09/13/92′;
Tom C. Smith…[Read more]-

@the-inkspiller Okay, wow, let me just say that your information is incredibly helpful and insightful. Thank you so much! I know, it’s kind of disappointing that I can’t include the Earps or Doc Holliday in the story… they’re such fascinating people! But then, I don’t know what I’d do with them anyway. 😛
I’ve gotten quite a bit of writing…[Read more]

Hey! Thank you so much! Yes, while I was visiting the Creation Museum with my family last year, I read this article in the section of the place with lots of different stories with dragon-like creatures (dinosaurs), and the story really struck me and ever since I haven’t been able to forget it. It just needs a story.…[Read more]

Kendra commented on the post, How to Write Speculative Fiction of Truly Epic Proportions 4 years, 12 months ago
I thoroughly enjoyed this post. Though I’m not enough of a writer to even consider writing intricate, massive stories, someday I’d love to come close enough to imitating Tolkien to have people say that it just barely reminds them of LOTR in terms of world building and memorable characters and beauty. That would be enough for me. 🙂
Oh my…[Read more]

Hey, guys!
I’m plotting a new story for Camp Nano this April, and it’s a fantasy/historical fiction set in the old west (Tombstone, Arizona, circa 1889 and 1890, to be exact), and I’m a bit overwhelmed by all the things I’ll need to research to make the setting, characters, weapons, and food as accurate as possible. I now know that the .45…[Read more]
