    I find that writing a chapter in their point of view is a great way to get their feelings out, even if you don’t actually use it in your book. And create different reasons that the villain does things. Put her/him past regular reasoning.

    Like, for example, let’s say the villain has a daughter, and that daughter gets rushed to the hospital. The villain comes in, and sees her/his daughter there, and blames the hero for taking away the villains time that they would’ve spent with their daughter. Then, instead of taking care of their daughter, they go and try to take down the hero.
