@lonathecat, I can’t think of any other short stories really, since I’m usually more of the 300+ page book reader. Do you have any favorites?
Nice to meet you, @claire-h. I love the idea of a futuristic /dystopia story set in the jungles of Peru. That sounds so cool! You’ll have to post updates as you progress. My dad teaches church history.…[Read more]

If it wasn’t clear, Angus is my favorite character. 🙂 Also, have you read Douglas Bond’s Mr. Pipes books? I’ve only read a couple of those, but they’re so good.

Umm…I absolutely love Angus, too. I’m kinda hesitant to admit this, but I have a stuffed sheep named after him that always sits on my bed. (Also, agnus is Latin for “sheep,” so I feel like that fits.)
I haven’t read the Faith and Freedom trilogy, but I might have to when I have the chance. What is it about? Are Angus and Duncan,…[Read more]

@amaustin, you’re really named after Arwen from the Lord of the Rings? (Sorry about the stalking, I was just scrolling thru other pages and that stood out to me) If so, that’s awesome!
Also, in your favorite authors on your profile, you mentioned Douglas Bond. Have you read his Crown and Covenant series?

@lydiajoy
Yes, I am! And not after the one in the movie either. (Thank goodness!) It’s a fun name to have, and I have discovered it’s the only name that could ever fit me. I’ve never met anyone else with my name, but it’s kind of fun to watch people get confused and hesitantly repeat it. Although, it’s also nice to have them immediately recognize…[Read more]-

I love that you have a sheep named after him!! That is so perfect!
It is set during the revolutionary war in America, and as best as I can tell, like 50-70 years after they leave Scotland. More or less the Revolutionary war. The first one is about Malcolm’s grandson, and Malcolm is in it, and I think Jenny might be a little bit (?) but…[Read more]

@arindown, I wholeheartedly agree!
1. Favorite scene: Oooh, this is hard! In the movie, I love the interaction between Aragorn, Legolas, and Gimli as they search for Pippin and Merry. But Helm’s Deep is great, too. It’s all good, really.
[Slightly unrelated, but I was disappointed that they didn’t include the scene in the Hobbit where Gandalf…[Read more]

@mischievous-thwapling, thank you for starting this. Everyone’s responses helped me think through magic in my fantasy world. There are some really great and helpful points here.

@lonathecat, after you wrote:
…I then took a month to get back to you. Sorry! 🙂
I haven’t read Farmer Giles of Ham in a while, so it’s not fresh on my mind, but I think I basically agreed with you about how things went for the dragon. Still, I really liked it as a short story.

First of all, I have immensely enjoyed all of your descriptive good-byes.
Second, I don’t know that I really have the time to commit to actively writing in this awesome role play. 🙁 Is it okay if I don’t have a character but still read and make comments/suggestions occasionally?
Also, you are not the only one who struggles to keep track of…[Read more]

@kimlikesart, 398 pages is awesome! If you’re sharing, what is the basic premise/storyline of that book?

@lonathecat, I have to say that the LoTR books are better than the movies, but the movies really made the books come alive for me. I can’t really choose a favorite between the three books or movies, though. They’re all really good.
When I have time, I will definitely look at getting Beren and Luthien from the library. Have you ever read Tolkien’s…[Read more]

Thanks for the welcome! I am definitely a fellow LoTR fan. Which do you like better, the books or movies? And what is your opinion of the Hobbit? I tried reading the Silmarillion a few years ago and could just never get into it. I may need to retry it again. I will also have to look into Beren and Luthien. It’s so nice to meet…[Read more]

Oh, and, @mischievous-thwapling (great name, btw), I’m not sure how many chapters I’ll have in total. 75? 85? I really don’t know. I also may combine chapters, cut chapters, add chapters, you know, it’s a first draft.
I’d love to hear about your book if you’re sharing.

@joelle-stone, my goal is to write a book that I (and others like me) would pick up at a library and enjoy. I feel like there’s not enough good, interesting, well-written fiction out there. Thanks for your encouragement!
To answer your questions: It’s mostly fantasy with a little medieval/historical fiction incorporated. I’m trying to introduce…[Read more]

Nice to meet you, @melodyjoy! Yes, my middle name is Joy. (Joy is also my mom’s middle name and the middle name of my four sisters 🙂 )
You’ve actually read Kiriath’s Quest!?!? It’s a great book, but I know of only one other person who has read it outside of my family. Rick Barry’s The Methuselah Project is equally or more awesome even than…[Read more]

@kimlikesart, You ask good questions!
I follow Jesus because he deserves it and because it’s worth it. After all he was willing to do for me, come to earth, live a perfect life, suffer and die a cruel death, why wouldn’t I follow and serve him for the rest of my life?
My favorite book of the Bible would have to be the book of James. My main…[Read more]
