Libby started the topic Anyone up for cheking out a (very) short story? in the forum General Writing Discussions 7 years, 9 months ago
I had an assignment to take a famous quote and incorporate it into a new background in a way that keeps its meaning and strength. So here’s a 750 word story snippet I wrote and I was wondering if anyone could offer critique and feedback. It would be greatly appreciated. 🙂 Thanks!

@h-jones Oh, wow. I love the sway of this piece, so chilling. Yes, I think you did capture the mysterious feel.
Also, I read the line “worm into dreams” and at first I shuddered, because that word “worm” is so expressive and kind of creepy. I wasn’t sure if I like it at first, but after reading the poem through a second time, I think adds so mu…[Read more] -

I have fallen so far behind in my novel that I don’t know what to do. I really would like to continue working on it and finish the first half by spring, but I don’t know if I will be able to keep that goal. Life has been going bonkers recently, and it will only get worse.
Other goals are to write at least a hundred words a day, whether that’s jo…[Read more] -

@evelyn Of course not 🙂
Mom and Dad went on a date
And left us on our own,
To scour pantries for some food
And make our meals alone.
Between “scour” and “pantries”, perhaps you might want to add a “the”. It all depends on if you say “scour” with two syllables or one.
Sally made a smoothie snack,
Using greens and berries,
Added glops of…[Read more]

Hey, just saw this, but I wanted to drop by and say that I write poetry. I started as a little girl with some funky poems, and when I turned thirteen, began to write seriously. I guess you could say right now, I keep on improving. I love poetry – reading it and writing it.
Favorite poets would be William Wordsworth (love his poem She Was a Ph…[Read more] -

Thank you for writing this. I really struggle with creating compelling and real dialogue, and I am very grateful that you posted this. I think what you said about the long, inspiring speeches being unnatural is something I have trouble with, and I am glad you addressed that issue. I’m looking forward to trying out dialogue again – and reading…[Read more]

@evelyn Not really that much. I think there are a couple places that could be touched up if you really wanted to, but they don’t bother me a ton.

@kb-writer Marimba – that is so neat! I know what it is and I love hearing it played, but I have never known anyone who plays it before.
I would love to take guitar lessons from you and cross border lines and pay you!…as long as you would pay for the trip!;)
I can’t believe I forgot! Debussy is my favorite composer! I love his Danse and Arabes…[Read more] -

Burnin’ and Bakin’

Then stir until you cain’t no more,
With all your heart and soul.This recipe to good success

@h-jones So awesome! I’ll be excited to see you post!!
Yes, William Wordsworth is one of my favorites. I love his poem “She Was a Phantom of Delight”. To be honest, I have not read “Simon Lee”. I will now, though! I think I may have read “I Wandered Lonely as a Cloud” at one point in time before I really appreciated poetry, but now I need…[Read more]

@kb-writer Please, talk as much as you want on music! I love music! I play the piano as well, coming up on my eleventh year. As for guitar, I am trying to teach myself, but it’s getting harder to be consistent. Hoping to have my younger sister teach the basics of violin to me someday, and I love to sing. Do you have any favorite comp…[Read more]

@h-jones Hey,
Just wanted to say I’m praying for you! I have struggled in the past with things very similar, bad experiences with the web and sinning with my talents and stuff. I understand what it’s like. But I know that God uses all this stuff for his own plan and his own purposes. I don’t have a direct answer, but we know the One who does…[Read more]

@e-b-raulands I love sonnets – so beautiful to read, although I’ve never written one before.
@kb-writer I guess I’ll add my bit here. I made this one out of my head, so bear with me! 😉 I suppose you could call it iambic. It’s a nine-line stanza; pattern: ABCCBBCAA.
I think that’s as much as I can say.My example: There Have Been Those D…[Read more]

@scarletimmortalized This is very meaningful – I think – and I like it a lot!
Rhythm-wise, I think perhaps there were a few places that could be polished a bit, but if you aren’t really concerned about that, it’s not really trippy and you don’t need to take any of my advice 😉 It’s just a bit inconsistent.
Actually, can I just email you my…[Read more] -
