I’ve never been to a writers conference, only workshops.
The most recent workshop I was at I didn’t really enjoy it, the author just wanted to talk about his books, and his own personal stories, rather than showing us some ways to write. I even tried asking him about his writing techniques, plotting, etc. but he brushed off that question and ju…[Read more]

@ashlyvye I was thinking to do a reflective silver too. I am not the biggest fan of dull silver and gold, because then they are silver and gold, they are more of a grey and yellow.
@scribbles Thanks for making this thread, I’ve been meaning to do it since I was the one who started this discussion, but I just never got around to it.

@sarah-narnathron The book is called The Candy Cane Killer, the series is currently called “Canadian Furies”
It is about group of females in the Canadian Police Department. One is a homicide detective specializing in serial killers, the other is a drug enforcer, and the other is a police lawyer who specializes in defending the victims of rape.

@scribbles Nice colour scheme there. That green looks nice, but I think that blue is a little light.

@scribbles @brandon-miller I like blue and silver too. It was the first colour scheme I thought of when I thought of the word Rillumen.
Here is a board with some colours. I don’t really like the green idea, it doesn’t really seem to go with the blue and silver, but we can vote on that. I like blue number 1. Which blue is you guys’ pick for Ri…[Read more]

Did I hear someone mention Sherlock?

I love Sherlock. I have watched all the way to John’s wedding. I wish they would come out with another season… or 2, or 3… or a million. 🙂

@sarah-narnathron Serial killers are often very manipulative, which means you most likely won’t suspect them, even if you are questioning them. And they are usually very good liars.
Serial killers are mostly psychopaths, but not all psychopaths are serial killers. The reason is that most psychopaths have damage to certain parts of their brains…[Read more]

Do we have Rillumen colours to splash our standards with as we go into battle? I was thinking Blue and Silver or Blue and Gold. What do you think?

Kayla Joy replied to the topic What Genre do YOU Write? in the forum General Writing Discussions 8 years, 2 months ago
Contemporary Romance, Mystery/Thriller, and fan-fiction ( 🙂 ) are my primary genres that I write in, but I have dabbled in Dystopian, Historical Fiction, and Fantasy.
Karen Kingsbury inspired my Contemporary Romance, Dee Henderson inspired me to write Mystery/Thriller, and all the fandoms I am a part of inspired my fan-fics 🙂

Here is a sestina I did for a class I took… I am not the biggest fan of sestinas, too much repetitive words…
Autumn Magic
Good ol’ Jack has come to paint the forest with frost.
All along the ground lay fallen leaves.
Through the trees softly blowing is the wind.
In the air is the smell of sweet apple cider
In the garden, hidden in g…[Read more]

When I think of a sunset, I think of the anticipation of the next day.
But I also think of the dark coming soon. I am afraid of the dark, wolves, and coyotes. I don’t know why, no traumatic experience with any of those, they are my irational fears.
But then again, when I watch a sunset, I kind of momentarily forget that there is going to be d…[Read more]

You know you’re a writer when you join a kickboxing class because your protagonist is a kickboxer and you want to know what it feels like so you can write it well later.
@skredder I do that thing where I will predict parts of a movie that I have never seen. It annoys a LOT of people, because I like to tell people what I am predicting so I have…[Read more]

Ok, this got a little long, and is more of a part of a story than really a description, but I guess that is what we are here to do, right? 🙂
Natasha walked into the café, her eyes roving all over the place, taking in everything. The place was decorated in stylized rustic, the knotted boards and bricking giving it a sense of home-style, but…[Read more]
