K. A. Grey replied to the topic Anyone Want To Do Writing Sprints With Me?! in the forum General Writing Discussions 4 years, 1 month ago
@eden-anderson Eden! HI!! Do you remember me? I posted earlier, but somehow SE ate my earlier post, so if it decides to fix it, it may or may not make me look like a psychopath who posted twice. Jk, jk. 🤣 How are you, and Ferdinand and Ollie?
I can do word sprints with you, if you want! I can maybe do a 20 minute session.
It’s good to have y…[Read more]

@eden-anderson Eeedeeeennnn! HI! Do you remember me? (It’s okay if you don’t, it’s been a long time, haha.) How are Ferdinand and Ollie? * awkwardly offers hedge-hugs and donuts*
I can do word sprints with you, if you want! Remind me how this works again…. we both write simultaneously for a set amount of time and see how many words we have a…[Read more]

@katie02 Ooh, you could do a lot with this! 😂 How about a feisty grandma that stubbornly does all the housework around the house even though she’s got arthritis and the family begs her not to? Or maybe one with dementia that sometimes wanders off and the family finds her trying to flirt with the townspeople, much to their embarrassment. Or a Gr…[Read more]

Also, I love how @gbfruitbat and I (the J types) gave these detailed answers, and the P types were just like, “I don’t know much about my type but this looks interesting, so yeah.” xD
(Oh, one other thing about my type. I have spent nearly five minutes deciding whether to post this or not because I don’t want to offend P types, and if I did, I…[Read more]

@erynne Ooh! nerdy MBTI stuff! I wasn’t tagged but I hope you don’t mind my joining in. 😁
I’m an INFJ,although sometimes I type as INTJ. The reason being that my thinking/feeling preference is split almost perfectly in half, with only a slight tendency toward feeling. Usually. Depends on how I’m feeling when I take tests. Of which I have ta…[Read more]

K. A. Grey replied to the topic Article about non-perfectionist rewriting in the forum General Writing Discussions 4 years, 5 months ago
Excellent article!
The goal is “good enough,” rather than perfection.
Oof, my mind doesn’t like that line! XD But you called out one of my biggest problems: getting stuck getting each paragraph absolutely perfect instead of moving on. I like how you pointed out that sometimes a “pretty paragraph” might actually need to be cut, but we don’t rea…[Read more]

Hey guys! I hope everyone had a very Merry Christmas!
Okay, so can we make the deadline Tuesday night instead? That way everyone has more time to join if they want to (including me)😛
@erynne It’d be awesome if you could join! I think I’ll be one of the contestants, and Emily and Joshua will be the judges. @Emma-walker and @winter_rose might…[Read more]

@winter_rose That prompt sounds perfect! Before I say I’ll join though, I’ll see who is joining and who would be willing to be a judge for this round. Also, since Christmas Eve is tomorrow, let’s extend the deadline to Monday instead.

@Andrew You’re welcome! Glad I could be of some help.
It sounds like you’re getting a bit overwhelmed with trying to capture the magnificence of the world around you. And that’s exactly what makes our job as writers so hard, because it’s one thing to have a beautiful, perfect idea in your head, and a completely other thing to try to put it down…[Read more]

@winter_rose Congratulations! Hey, do you want to throw out a new prompt for us?
@Emily-waldorf Don’t be too hard on yourself, you did great! Would you like to join in the next prompt? I think this little exercise helps us all see our weak points, but that means we can work on becoming better writers! Maybe next time when writing an argument,…[Read more]

But I mean it is a prompt “war” so it’s gonna get cutthroat sometimes.

Okay, so here’s my decision. I haven’t seen Cathy’s judgment yet, so this is my unbiased viewpoint.
First off, @Emily-waldorf @winter_rose, great submissions! I’m gonna give my thoughts for each of the pieces, and then announce my pick for the winner at the end.
I’ll start with Emily. You did a great job with describing the room. “This room s…[Read more]

@Emily-waldorf Haha, it’s okay. It’s not like we would kick you out if you went over or something. xD As for the two missing words, I think they shouldn’t affect our understanding the story.
@mamaauthoress No worries! We understand if someone is busy. No need to apologize or hide. 😉
Also, the contest ends tonight, so if anyone else wants to…[Read more]

@winter_rose Yeah, I’m not the one who wrote the prompt, @noah-cochran was, so I’m not quite sure what he meant by that either. I’d say maybe focus on only one Pov’s introspection? And then try to show what the other characters might be thinking from the main character’s point of view. But again, I didn’t write the prompt, so you might want to c…[Read more]

K. A. Grey replied to the topic Poetry critique page in the forum Poets 4 years, 6 months ago
@crazywriter This is beautiful! The cadence is really good. Sometimes rhymed poems sound really forced and choppy, but this reads very naturally with a good rhythm that isn’t distracting. The only critique I would have is the last line, but I’d be being nitpicky. The sentence structure is switched around to fit the rhyme, so it sounds a teeny…[Read more]
