Okay, guys! Time for a discussion!
Recently, I’ve been juggling a novella challenge and the 100 for 100 challenge. I kind of left the novella challenge by the wayside, but not before writing around 23,000 words for one draft and 4-5 for another in a different pov. I also thought this would be a good chance to try my hand at first person, since my…[Read more]

@happyholly_c Fill out the same sheet as last time since I’m sure some people will be using different characters.
@graceabounds2129, that’s a really great idea!

Hey guys! I’m filling in for Brandon today.
Prompt war!
Your goal is to write a story where you bring out the beauty of something ordinary in the middle of a very dramatic setting.
Have fun and see if you can beat the mighty Saxon Scribes.…[Read more]

Oooh great topic! It’s so true sometimes we writers have to take the pressure off ourselves and remember why we love to write in the first place.
Also your point about being our own audience also really helps me tone down the preachiness in my stories and just let the words be honest about myself and the world. Because I think my…[Read more]

Hey guys
It’s been a while since I posted one of these (or anything, really) but when I saw what Jane from Meraki had cooked up (along with help from Daeus and Faith), I had to make sure to share it. If you’re trying to decide whether you want to pursue traditional or self publishing, it’s your lucky week.
Self Publishing vs Traditional…[Read more]

Rillumen has been so inactive lately! Where is everybody? Or has it always been this slow and I never noticed? Not that its bad or anything!
I almost missed the latest word war, so I thought I would remind everyone to quickly send in their total words! The time’s already up, but Daeus Lamb added something today reminding everyone to send in their…[Read more]

Do I need to reintroduce myself when I’ve been absent from the forums for nearly SIX WHOLE MONTHS?! 😮😬 (Except for keeping up with the SE fiction @mariposa writes, of course… 😉) It’s been a CRAAAAZY half a year, but I think I’ll be popping in frequentlyish again, so…*flings pecan leaf confetti everywhere* *hands everyone a squirrel and offer…[Read more]

That’s a great question! And on that I’m not entirely sure how to answer directly… but I’ll do my best.
Start out with a very specific aspect of the personality you want to work with. Ingrain that aspect into your character. And the throw them into the world. Think about how that single aspect will react to one character vs…[Read more]

Not long ago I took a long break from all this online stuff… and I finished the first draft of my novel. Hey guys, this week our weekly discussion is from Brandon Miller.
(oh. me.)
How and What to Read as Writers:
Okay so, we’re all writers, right? We weave words and spin tales and generally have a good go at reality. For most of us though, our love for stories started on the other side of the experience — as readers. Now that we’re writing, it’…[Read more]
