Congratulations to the winners! I didn’t know this was happening, or I would’ve had some words to contribute. ^^;;

@quinn-ofallon I’ve been debating whether or not to read this because (well, aside from the time issue that is eating us all alive) dystopias aren’t usually my thing. I’ve read the Hunger Games and a couple others and appreciated the experience, but they’re overall a bit dark for my usual reading tastes, and I don’t want to discourage you by…[Read more]

@brie-donning Whoa, that’s amazing! You’ve clearly spent a lot of time developing this world! Kudos to you! I love all the different cultural stuff, and I bet there are some awesome character interactions between people belonging to the different cultures! <3 Festivals / holidays are something I need to work on for my world…

@corkybookworm Unfortunately, I don’t know how to do a pdf. I think you have to buy a program specifically for it? I think the txt file mostly work, just with a lack of real formatting. There are line breaks, but they can be weird sometimes, and words I’ve italicized don’t show up as italicized. Reaction and general thoughts would be great, but…[Read more]

@corkybookworm By timeframe, are you asking for a time by which I would like your thoughts back? Would a month be too fast? And how would you like me to send it to you? I can convert the file to .rtf pretty easily, or Google docs might work well enough, or I think I can get it into a .txt file that will work semi-decently on a kindle. (The .txt…[Read more]

@quinn-ofallon – Your Moonwatcher world sounds so mystical! You must have had a lot of fun playing around with the worldbuilding; I’d love to vacation there!

*waves* Sorry I’m not around much, but I appreciate getting tagged once in a while to remind me to rejoin the conversation. n_n; And these are some interesting world-building questions! Too bad I can’t answer them quickly except by the cop-out answer, “It depends.” xD But so far, I’ve used both dogs and cats as pets for my characters, and another…[Read more]

Lynn Renard replied to the topic Story Blurb in the forum Rillumen's Writing Discussions 5 years, 5 months ago
@corkybookworm Yes, I am feeling better, thanks! =D And no, those “how” questions are exactly the type of thing I recommend! @quinn-ofallon Asking “how” tells the audience the focus is on the journey. It implies, “You may think you know where this is going to end up, and you might be right, but how Roshni gets to that end is important!”

(First off, major apologies for being so late to this. I was all kinds of motivated when I said I’d check out this forum, and then… I got sick. *wince* Now, that aside…)
Oooo, very intriguing blurb! As Coralie said, it looks very professional! I notice you use a lot of active-voiced sentences and strong nouns and verbs to say a lot with very…[Read more]

@corkybookworm Congratulations to your brother! 😀 And best of luck with your crazy schedule! o3o x) I’m game for trading some feedback, though I’m afraid I’ll end up forgetting about it in a week. Still, I’ll check those boards out tomorrow morning, see if anyone’s posted recently, and maybe post something myself. =D

I echo @quinn-ofallon . First person perspective is the one I use most often, and it’s a pet peeve of my own writing when I see that I have two or more short paragraphs beginning with the same letter, especially if it’s “I.” xD So I start with a participle, as Quinn mentioned. Or I start with a conjunction if I’m not worried about sentence…[Read more]

@corkybookworm I miss the activity here, too! *hugs all around* As for what I’ve been up to… The Forest at the Edge of the World, by Trish Mercer. Each book is monster-length Christian epic fantasy. The first book was just okay, but I got the first four books free on Amazon, so I decided I might as well read the next one and see how things go.…[Read more]

Lynn Renard replied to the topic Traditional vs Self Publishing in the forum Announcements 5 years, 7 months ago
I’m late to the party, but @corkybookworm basically said everything I was going to. xD On the traditional side, there’s the sparkly trophy of validation, plus the publisher will cover the costs of editing and cover art and the like. On the indie side, there’s the whole I-get-to-veto-anything-and-no-one-can-stop-me appeal.
Marketing is probably…[Read more]
