Wow, Rosario (How do you say her name, btw?) sounds soo cool!
Oh thanks! I actually don’t know for sure how you say Rosario’s name. I was looking for Spanish names and I think I found her name in an Algebra problem and because I’m such a good student I totally didn’t spend the entire time pingponging different trains of thought that had nothing to do with whatever x equals. I based her off a rose motif so I wanted “rose” in her name (Ehud’s a bird motif) but Rosa was just too cute a name for her and she might have broken the fourth wall to kill me if I named her that soo. I think it’s pronounced either Rose-are-ee-oh or Ross-are-ee-oh (leaning of the first) but I named her before I started the naming system of looking up the meaning of names until I found one that summed up the entire character in a word yes I obsess. 🙂
LOL! That is so funny, you are so good with those dying remarks!
Thanks! I love dying!
Ok, that was insanely long. I am such a long-winded person. *sigh* Thank you if you even read that
Not read that? Not read that?! Dude you are talking to a bunch of writers who started out avid readers. Not read that; tell a fish you don’t have to swim or a bird you don’t have to fly first! Do not apologize for long posts, I love reading about y’all’s characters so no apologising!
Btw sorry this is a long post 😛It was one of those old trams, you know, the kind that make a dumpy B-grade si-fi look like a half-way plausible alternative. Busy streets, busy people, crappy buildings and even crappier inhabitants. But whatever, right? I couldn’t give a pound of crack off this. Can’t hardly take this waiting but I need to cover my tracks.
It’s not in Enoch’s best interest to find me and it’s not in my best interest to be found by…whoever Ehud ticked off now. He still thinks it’s a game, whatever he tries to take it seriously it’s all just cops and robbers to him. But whatever he did now it nearly got us two slugs and a salutation from Santa Muerte. He better not have done what I think he did. I knew I couldn’t trust him to leave be. Stupid Ehud, stupid stupid hopelessly naïve Ehud.
Walking past some dank, glittery street, I watch and wait for an opportunity, you know, and I light a cigarette. Been getting off these things but what the heck, right? Can’t light up one of these things now without seeing his big anxious eyes, so big you want to laugh. Been going pretty good for almost a year now, dropped to a couple a day then just a couple a week but right now I just about finished a pack in a day. I guess I still have nerves, darn useless things.
Couple minutes in, I spot a nine grand suit here who’s dad’s got to be a bank. That’s the sort of anomaly I’m looking for. Dropping a half-finished cigar to squash it out with the toe of my shoe, I get moving. Good thing I lost his brother when I did; I have to be able to do what I do best and that’s not pretty stuff. I pull the slim pink ribbon out of my hair in the perfect, practiced way that makes thick messy curls tumble dramatically around my face as I catch up to the stranger. It was standard, of course, pretty girls made better spies and my jaw-line was just too masculine, enough the wild hair gave the illusion of a softer profile.
“Hey mister, you look like money.” With a sideway grin I slip into the tomboy persona which tends to work with me best. This isn’t the pickup back alley rich folks go to to hook up with minors or other things so he stands out like a prick. He smiles and checks me out so I guess he’s mortal.
“You don’t know the streets like I do, I bet, you need a tour?” I’m just a couple flaws shy of beastly instead of beautiful, but you match some choppy makeup job and the cloths style that subtly accentuates a bit of curve and you got it if you wear enough confidence. Social engineering does the rest.
“Yes, I’d love a tour with somebody as pleasant as you.”
“Where you going?”
“Just looking for something.” He says at me so I really hope he’s someone I have to kill. Right now I need a lead, he doesn’t belong here and he’s lying through his teeth if he says he’s just here to pick up a spicy date. Hit man, crony or bank, that’s what you get down in the slums. He’s not one of the gangs unless he’s a new member but I don’t think so coz no lingering marks of the initiations and it’s not the profile.
Etiquette requires I take his arm but that’s just as well since it gives me two seconds less time to twist his arm broken if things go south. Relaxed enough to pick up a girl he must have been on this for a while. We start walking so I have a chance to get some intelligence.
“Where are you taking me?” I ask, leaning in enough I can slip a hand in his pockets and see if he’s got anything useful to finding Ehud.
“Some place you won’t forget.” Nothing, just the leather of a wallet, a gold watch and a piece of paper. I drop the paper into my pocket, laying on a bit more accent than I usually have.
“And where’s that?”
“You’ll see.” If this little swellheaded pimp doesn’t give me some good information I swear I’ll strangle him with his own shiny silver-studded belt.He stops at a junction by a warehouse, blabbering the whole time about every single thing I couldn’t care less about. No guards, no passersby. Those security cameras are probably broken. Be the perfect setup.
“A warehouse?” I make myself sound completely unimpressed but he merely shrugs and opens the door for me after tapping in a combination. Stiletto in my sleeve, guns in the folds of my cloths I follow along because he seems ready to spill out his guts to me with the help of a couple shots of wine, or try to be a smart guy which’ll get me in tabs with my enemies. Sure enough, warehouse full of dealers and bounty-hunters looking for a score. Dropping to a seat by a poker table I cross my legs fold my arms and play it cool at the guys around the table six to eight in all.
“Well what’s up boys?”
“That’s the one.” Tall Suit announces to them and in a second I hear guns click all around. So I smile and look around. “I must say it has been an honor to finally meet you, Miss Vera Cruz, after reading all your reports from your work in government.”
His own gun levels at me point blank. “Your hands where I can see them. If you would kindly stand so my men can search you.”
“I’ve been off the grid for a while,” I start, following the drill and slowly landing on my feet. “So what’s this about? Bit of a late comeback if you ask me.” He laughs.
“I can’t believe I get to be here in person, you’re one of the best of the best, right? You’re thorough you’re systematic you’re one of the only ones we’ve ever had that we never had to bother with conflict of interest.”
While he’s monologuing I stare down the two men who’re advancing to pat me down.
“You could have had it all if you’re just stayed out of the action, but you just had to send the kid in, didn’t you? It’s about your father, isn’t it? And I thought you were above that.” So I was right. Ehud, you stupid, stupid idealist.
“Where is he?” Living on the street I can put an edge in my voice, not that it had enough effect in the circumstances. He smiled and shook his head, but that was enough to know they didn’t have him. Fine, I can get some out of this.
“Mind?” Carefully, I move my hand to a pocket and pull out a pack of cigars. It’s a sad technique but better than getting a thorough frisk so I give my most artless smile.
“Of course. I am a gentleman.” Ha. He even lights it for me before I smash it in his eye just before I hurl him into the goons between me. With the other hand I yank the gun out of his hand just as he fires but chances are in favor of him not hitting in the heat of the moment. Firing a round over his shoulder I snap his arm back sharp enough I hear a crack right before he screams as I jolt him in front of me as a shield. Three out, five to go. Bullets can knock right through his body, despite popular opinion even point blank very few bullets hit if you don’t aim first and these guys take quantity over quality.
A kick right under the chair knocks it into my hand and I hurl it at them as I skid to the floor to make a smaller target. Bang! Aiming for the face is the most efficient way because even if it’s not a kill shot chances are they won’t be able to aim back, at least if you know the deal. Two down in a second, one more and it’s a piece of beauty. I need one alive for questioning, just a grazing injury should do.
Then everything disappears.I must have gotten one after all then. I’m not losing to them, let’s face it I’m the only one even mildly competent enough to save Ehud. I will not die right now.
But that’s pretty faded.
For some odd reason I think about the Bridge Ehud and I illegally climbed only a couple thousand times. For the umpteenth time I wonder whether Ehud ever comprehended that chatting alone at a very romantic height is what you say in ingles a date.
He’s not for me.
Heck, I’m good for a night or two but not for a real life. That romance crap only works for the girls who aren’t completely twisted by life. Not in real life. Not in the movies. Just in a couple dime-darned fairytales that tend to grace the dumpster.
Looking out for number one, Rosario, that’s what you’re good at. He better never find out, I’m not crapping all over his life.
What an idiotic last thought. When she came to it was some semi-forest area by a stream. There were people just about everywhere, hard to get a gauge on how many. Blowing her hair out of her face she watched with every cool calculating thought she could control. And that’s when she heard that same clear chirpy voice and Rosario swore she was gonna kill him.
“Hi, I’m Ehud! Are you gonna die too?!” Abruptly he jumped up just as she started to stand.
“Rosy!” She didn’t move out of the way in time, he nearly knocked her over with a hug. “Rosy Rosy Rosy! You’re alive!”
“Yes. Wonderful. Thank you.” There was no disentangling herself from his embrace so she stiffened a little and looked anywhere but at him. ‘He’s not for me’ Against her will she made half a move to pass a hand behind his head and keep him here but he abruptly looked up.
“It’s…you’re…you are you, right?”
“Are you injured? Hurt?” Rosario asked, holding him at arm’s length to see. He glanced over himself and stared back up at her.
“I think I’m ok…”
“Ok.” she said “then what were you thinking?! Idiota!” She continued to shake him hard. “Do you think? Are you capable of thinking?!”
“I think so.” Too frustrated to catch his pun, she glowers at Ehud, trying very hard to stay angry with him. He knew it, and was now giving her puppy eyes. Rosario let out a irritated sigh and motioned with her eyes off out of the way so he knew she wanted to talk to him in private when this was over.
“What did you do? This-” She waves a hand over everything around them “-has to be your fault, but how, Ehud?”
“I donno,” With a shrug he sort’ve sank into his shoulders “I was crawling through a duct into a library and the duct disappeared and then a giant nearly killed me and somebody shot the Ax Girl and we all got books and then I disappeared home but it wasn’t really home and you-but-you-weren’t-really-you tried to kill me and then we appeared here and it started to rain and then we fell here and then a buncha other people appeared and now you’re here and I don’t wanna die again.”
Rosario blinked, and gave a disconsolate sigh, mumbling something about English being hard enough speaking Ehud’s even worse. Meantime Ehud had swiped the ribbon out of her pocket and was trying to refasten it around her curls. So she waved him off, although she secretly enjoyed being pampered. Rosario glared over everybody, wrapping an arm around Ehud’s shoulders so she could yank him behind her if anything happened.
“What do you guys want?”
“Oh,” he followed her gaze “This is Rosy, she’s my best friend in the whole wide world!”
Certainly, his absolutely devoted enthusiasm was touching. But her entire life was build on webbing secrets and lies and he’d just blurt out everything to everyone so good luck keeping hidden or under any persona with Ehud. She compressed her lips and took a deep inhale. It took a lot to adapt to the situation involving someone completely inapt at performing any subtly, it meant things had to be faced headlong and secrecy was almost impossible to maintain.
Of all the people in the world she’d be more compatible with…why? To be a light to the world you must shine in the darkness.
November 13, 2020 at 7:22 pm #121693That’s so cool that you found it during math!! And yeah, who actually focuses on math anyways? 😛
I loved this post. It felt like a Mission Impossible movie mixed with our Character Castle. AKA, awesome. Poor Rosario is so at war with herself, though! I would’ve loved to see how Colma reacted to her, but sadly *sigh* I took her out of the castle in my last post. But instead we shall see how my two new characters react when I turn their world upside-down! *maniacal laughing*
I’ll get them typed up and posted on here ASAP 😉

November 13, 2020 at 7:27 pm #121695Aw, I’ll be sad to see Brin go, but go ahead and bring in whoever you want! Bringing her back in later sounds great to me. And thanks for reading it! 😀

oh good i was worried i was pushing it. What’s Mission Impossible? I love how you say Rosario is so at war with herself, so true! I very much miss Colma already but I can’t wait for your new characters!
@jasmine
The adorable fox is leaving?!? Bye Brin!:(To be a light to the world you must shine in the darkness.
November 13, 2020 at 10:08 pm #121703Uh, well, Mission Impossible is the name a buncha of movies, featuring Tom Cruise and stuff, and there’ a lot of them, I think.
Aw, thanks! I’m about to go post them now. (:

November 14, 2020 at 6:35 pm #121714I totally get that, lol! 😛 Right now I want to bring in a second character along with Wylo…. *sigh*….And I don’t finish stories because I get another “cool” idea. But I’m looking forward to meeting these new characters of yours! If you ever want to bring in the dragon, though, that would make for some awesome character building on my part and those who don’t have dragons in their worlds 😉 And I, too, often decide what I’m going to do as I type it 😛
Oh, you are so lucky to even be able to drive to get snow!!! It is weird, though, that you only had to drive that far…. But yeah, take advantage of the times you can actually beat your brother, ha ha 😀
Lol, thank you! And I loved your post! I was a wonderful salutation to Colma; she was a great character. The fox scene was so beautiful, and the poem was great! I have a hard time with poems too.
You’re back!! I’m so glad you’re feeling better! Now we are all here 😀 YES
Brin is leaving! 🙁 No! Wylo shall not get to wonder what strange power makes an animal speak. It is so strange, but I feel like I get to know not only y’all, but also y’all’s characters. So I feel so sad when they leave, like as if you were actually leaving as well!
“I love dying.” lol 😛 And thank you! I totally love reading your posts, and this one — don’t apologize! It was so interesting, I didn’t even think about how long it was. Rosario is going to be an interesting character for mine to interact with 😉
@everybody
Do y’all mind if I draw in a second character of mine along with Wylo; more specifically, Kiark (y’know, as if that gives you anything more to go on)? It’ll be weird though, because Wylo is younger here than in my book, ha ha
I light the arrow, pull the bow,
Shoot that fire right through my soul.November 14, 2020 at 9:19 pm #121717*starts chanting* Bring in your second character! Bring in your second character! I’m great with it!
And as for the dragon thing… *clears throat and feels childish* I actually decided this morning that I want to bring in the dragons because I’m really investing/gonna invest in their story. All my others kinda felt like a chore to write, but I enjoy writing this one so much!!
So.. if everyone’s okay with it, can I bring in two dragon characters? They would be able to talk to them (sorta, I mean, it’s complicated, but as you’ll see in my post, they’ll be able to talk to the others) and they’ll be able to interact with them… Please? *puppy eyes*
Back to Wingiby Iggiby:
Yeah! I’m very grateful 😀 And yes, nothing’s more great than smashing one’s brother with a snowball 😛
Aw, thanks!! I enjoyed writing that silly lullaby XD

November 17, 2020 at 9:26 pm #121775It was still raining outside their safe-bubble. Rosario frowned at the sky but Ehud just shrugged and grinned, he wasn’t really sure how to explain it anyway. From her stone cold expression he knew she’d clicked back into survival mode. It was a scary thing. She usually reverted to something in her past that he didn’t know about but it made her unpredictable even to herself. So he grabbed her hand and tried to smile up at her.
“Do you trust any of these?” Her eyes skim over the group, avoiding Ehud’s gaze.
“Colma, she’s the ax girl she–” Propping his elbow on her shoulder, Ehud glanced around for Ax Girl and jolted up. “Where’s-?! Ax Girl’s missing! Where’s the talking fox?!”
He visibly counted the number of newcomers and his eyes widened.
“Did the castle murder them and replace them to murder us all?!?” Impulsively, he tried to rake a hand through his hair without pulling his hand out of his pocket. Why would Lord Castle teleport a bunch of people here from different places? Everything teleported so far has been sentient, why? “What if it sucks our souls!?!”
The first thing that brought him back to the present was Rosario gripping his arm to keep him from psuedo-pacing.
“Hey, escuchame,” She turned him around to face her “two breaths…in…out…”
Compliantly letting out a breath, Ehud shrank into his shoulders with a sheepish look. So Rosario released him and he stuffed his hands in his pockets trying to condense his excited energy.
“Ok,” he tried to collect his ideas “so two people disappeared and now you and him appeared so what if it’s connected, I mean, what if it’s a sorta game cos the castle’s smart and it’s mean and if it plays mind games what if it feeds off our responses and if it feeds off our responses what if it’s a soul vampire?!”
The corners of her lips twitch but she nods attentively, letting him think outloud. But he tends to revert from thinking outloud to internalizing everything at a dizzying speed. He couldn’t quite verbalize what he was figuring out because it was to vague. So he ran through everything that had happened and tried to connect dots.
“We’ve got book clues if we can decode them and–oh, Enoch! Is my brother ok, do you know where he is?” He grabbed her arm with an anxious, expectant stare but he could see her close up.
“He should be fine if he has more sense than you,” she gave a fractional shrug “no se lo.”
He can’t read her. Whatever she’s feeling she keeps it so locked in even he can’t reach it. Everything was secrets for her and she just seeped like mystery. Keeping cards close to your chest wasn’t something he could do and it was a gulf Ehud didn’t understand why she didn’t trust him.To be a light to the world you must shine in the darkness.
November 18, 2020 at 5:39 pm #121791Aw, I’ll be sad to see Brin go, but go ahead and bring in whoever you want! Bringing her back in later sounds great to me.
Thanks, It’s been so fun writing with Brin but I think it’s time for me to actually put in a character that needs developed.😛
Brin is leaving! No! Wylo shall not get to wonder what strange power makes an animal speak. It is so strange, but I feel like I get to know not only y’all, but also y’all’s characters. So I feel so sad when they leave, like as if you were actually leaving as well!
Me to! Whenever I finish a series I feel like I’m saying goodbye to my buddies forever (even though I can go back and read the books over again).
Brin stood up and shook herself. There where more people than before. Some had wandered away and some had just appeared. Bewildered, Brin slipped under a bush and glanced over the humans. There where to many. To many people making to much noise. Brin padded silently away through the underbrush.
The twigs and thorns brushed against her coat and the sun flashed in her eyes as she passed under the shadows. She could hear the voices growing fainter as she got farther. She suddenly felt quiet and peaceful, as if she where merely taking a short stroll from her den. Her mind drifted away from the previous events from the castle. Instead she found herself thinking and reflecting on memories from the forest.
She stepped into a small clearing with a stream running through it. Brin stoped. At the edge of the clearing was a small hole at the base of a giant pine tree. Her den. She ran over as if it would disappear if she didn’t get there in time. She slipped inside and found it as she had left it. A minute later she raced out and bounded back the way she had came. She didn’t know why but something inside of her just had to know. Was it a dream? The castle and all of those people? Maybe the bear had caught her. Maybe it was a dream. Maybe she was dead. She had to know.
She felt the memories start slipping away. As hard as she tried to remember she felt them starting to blur. The details where starting to fade into blackness. As she drew near to where the castle should be, the memories suddenly came back. All of them. It was real. It had happened.
Brin burst into the clearing where the people had been. It was empty of life. No one was there. Brin put her nose to the ground and tried to catch a scent but found none except for the faded scent of bear. She ran to the castle wall only to find a high rock face in its place. There was a tunnel in the stone. Voices echoed faintly out of the tunnel. No, not voices. It sounded like a dream. Or a ghost of a dream.
Brin sat and stared at the hole for a long, long time.
