@kendralynne518, unfortunately I do not, but I can make some time to do some additional research if required.
I was able to find a U.S. Marshals Service Roll Call which says a John Collins died in the line of duty in 08/10/1883;
Then in 1892-93, three Arizona marshals died in quick succession:
Vernon C. Wilson, 09/13/92′;
Tom C. Smith…[Read more]-
@the-inkspiller I think I may have read the same roll call! I’ll probably have to end up using one of them. Right now, the marshal that appears in my story shall remain nameless. 😀 I never knew that about Oklahoma! That’s interesting. U.S. Marshals do not seem to have lasted very long anywhere. Thank you for your help!

Full disclosure, I just joined the group so that I could respond and lend my help, even though I haven’t particularly wrote much in the Old West setting (though I often look to it for inspiration, particularly when I’m in a more sci-fi mood), but I do have an amateurish breadth of historical knowledge in the area. The idea of…[Read more]

The Inkspiller replied to the topic Ugh! I hate writing first-person! in the forum General Writing Discussions 6 years, 4 months ago
@edmund-lloyd-fletcher, I’m no expert in first-person (I likewise generally detest it), but I’ll give it a shot.
So, as you astutely observed, first-person by its very nature violates the rule of “show don’t tell.” However, it’s important to remember why that rule exists and what it primarily refers to – that is, things that we can’t literally see…[Read more]

@esther-sears Heck yeah! At the very least I would be interested to see what it looks like.

It was, in a word, fun. 🙂
I really enjoyed it for all of its silliness – and especially the tragicomic realization by Lucas that he’s not the chosen one. It was so enjoyable I kind of actually want to see the theoretical rest of this story that this would have been excerpted from (unless this is actually an excerpt (parody?) from…[Read more]

The Inkspiller replied to the topic Worldbuilding in the forum Fantasy Writers 6 years, 4 months ago
@e-k-seaver R.M. Archer puts up some super useful priming questions and pointers for world building. I’d like to take a crack at answering and see if there’s anywhere I can go into a little more depth. I’ve been inventing and running D&D campaigns fora good few years and so have had a lot of hands-on practice with a live audience (players) in…[Read more]

@kristianne-hassman, Thank you!
(Even though I can’t help but fret over the typo in the middle where I meant to say, “the French have always got [received] a peculiar status as the cultural center of Europe ever since the fall of Rome.”)It mostly came down to a lot of practice and reading; as I mentioned, Steinbeck was absolutely fundamental to…[Read more]

1. One way (that’s a little meta) is to give her (and her family) all the smart sounding lines – the pithy sayings, the most put together sentences. Not necessarily the most impactful ones or the deepest ones, but the ones which sound good. Trying out different lines out loud may help in getting the kind of imagined intonation down (coupled with t…[Read more]

@urwen-starial, I received your comment on the Google Doc. There’s no need to be ashamed – why would I be upset with you? I myself have been repeatedly falling off the face of the Earth for most of my life now, only to be pulled in by its gravity on the flip side; the only one I’m angry at is myself for my own defaulted obligations. We all have…[Read more]

@anne_the_noob14 I believe I did see your status update. No worries on the reading! I don’t have a deadline on the novel, unlike many / most other tasks in my life. If I’m going to be in any position to ask people to hurry up, then I better well hurry up myself!
And I am more than glad to have been of assistance! Apart from medicine and similar…[Read more]

I find it quite amusing that the longest topic thread on the Fantasy Writers forum is primarily about wound complications, physical trauma, and alcoholism.

Thank you for writing that. Words will fail me in expressing my thanks I’m sure, but thank you nonetheless.
In your second paragraph, I was reminded of Christ in Gethsemane – both in Matthew 26 and in the poem by Boris Pasternak regarding the same. I’ve long been told that God knows what it’s like to be human, not just because…[Read more]

Alrighty. @daeus-lamb. I’ll set an alarm to remind me. How is this going to go down, by the way? The meet and pray that is.

I would appreciate that.
I understand my reply is late in coming and I’d hate to be a burden on your time. At the moment, I feel somewhat better, I guess, though whether it is God’s grace of answered prayers or myself just cutting off my emotions, I’m still uncertain. But I still don’t know what to do with myself here and now. I…[Read more]

I’m grateful myself for the opportunity to help others. 🙂
I’m rather forcing myself to write this, but I tagged you in a post I made in the Prayer Requests. This is probably redundant as Story Embers would let you know anyway, but I’d be much obliged if you’d read it. If not – it’s a long post and I understand.

Very nice! I didn’t follow all of your thoughts in this, but I got the main idea. This line is very nice: “His death atones, His rising redeems!” I also love the whole last stanza. Indeed, He shall never let us go. Beautiful truth.
