@arindown @rose-colored-fancy @rebekah12
Your methods all sound interesting!
As a budding anthropologist, logophile, and analyzer of stories (what motifs and symbols are pervasive, which building blocks are used, etc), my works tend to be inspired by a plethora of random other bits and pieces. My main WIP started with a dream I had, which was…[Read more]

This thread may be dying, but I discovered the word chary today. It means the same thing as wary, apparently.
“He walked with a chary air, suspicious of everything and hesitant to trust.”
It is also apparently a homophone of ‘cherry’.

“Maybe there’s a book about your world here…”
Jericho’s deep blue eyes flicked upwards in alarm. If such a book were indeed here, it was likely to contain a more accurate version of the story she told. After all, it was part of the founding legend of the Kithnarya. Jericho had rarely shared her role in the story with anyone; she had told the l…[Read more]

Hi @rose-colored-fancy !
I understand what you’re talking about! Usually when I get to a portion of writing lower on the action scale, I have a couple of techniques for keeping the pace up.
First and foremost is body language and character quirks. If there is some lore-heavy discussions going on, give some hints about what your characters t…[Read more] -

(@everyone I’mma use this to set up something for Brendin, so if you wouldn’t mind the other characters not going past the veil for a bit that would be great. 🙂 )
“Perhaps,” he murmured to the man with the grey eyes. “Perhaps we should proceed with caution.”
Brendin glanced at the dragon warily, but ignored his warning for the moment. …[Read more]

I’M BACK EVERYBODY, DID YA MISS ME? *ignores groans from all sides*
Yay, you’re back!
“It’s just a polite lie civilized people use to greet each other,” Connel said a touch impatiently “you certainly don’t strike me as a maid in need of defending.”
Þorunn regarded him disdainfully. “Really?” she asked coldly. “Did the sword or the spear give…[Read more] -

I’m actually pretty tired, I’ve been dog- and house-sitting the past two nights and didn’t get nearly enough sleep, but last night was the last night and I get to sleep in tomorrow morning 🙂 .
And I’m really excited about my bro, his fiancee is really sweet and kind and I can’t wait for her to officially be my sister. She’s so…[Read more]

(Sorry for the delay, my brother got engaged and life became very chaotic all of a sudden)
After what may have been hours or minutes – or possibly days, it was tremendously difficult to discern in this castle – and a great deal of winding downwards, the corridor deposited them into a spacious circular room with a few other chambers leading off it…[Read more]

“She doesn’t like strangers.”
Karayan rolled his eyes slightly as the little dragon-like creature crawled onto her master’s shoulders. “Well yes, that was rather obvious,” he said in exasperation. “Most people do not greet strangers by trying to breathe fire down their necks. I’m not so eccentric I can’t recognize animosity when I see it…[Read more]

Jericho led the party through the winding tunnel. As they walked the walls shifted from prickling spikes to carven stone, lit every few meters by brackets of ever-burning torches. She did not know where they were going but she hoped it would be spacious enough she could keep her distance from the large reptile accompanying them. He made her un…[Read more]

Hey @kylie-wingfeather !
Before I get started, is Ruse pronounced like the word (rues/ruze) or like a rhyme with goose (roose)? Sorry, that’s just gonna distract me until I figure it out.
Alright, so Teaghan is straight-laced and responsible while Ruse is mischievous and a bit reckless. Probably an oversimplification, but that appears to be w…[Read more]

Continuation of my Haven story (apologies if you have an issue with heights)

I have several works with varying concepts, but I guess I’ll go over some of the more interesting ones.
Here’s a synopsis of my main Haven story (as yet unnamed but with the working title Endless):
The dark wraith Ingor once terrorized the nation of Haven from his lair in the Nightwold, the Dark Tower of the Witchvale. He and his army of…[Read more]

Suddenly she leapt on man, coiling on his shoulder, her hot breath like wet poison air on his neck.
Karayan sighed in mild exasperation. “Darling, there is no need for such actions. I’d never lay a hand on you, you’re being unreasonable.”
The creature made a soft growling noise.
“No, I am not lying,” the vetala retorted, sounding somewhat a…[Read more] -

Jericho smiled, a pleasant and friendly smile, when Alessio finished his story. “That was quite a display,” she told him warmly. “You have a gift for telling tales, my young friend.”
“I have a tale. It is not a happy one, although I hope it ends well.”

There’s a couple of castles on here that are very far along and tricky to jump into, so I’m starting a new one. Rules:
- Any character is welcome. Heroes, villains, antiheroes, antivillains, random side characters that only show up once… Any stage of development too. Round, flat, one-dimensional…
- Characters may appear or disappear at…
