@naiya-dyani Wow!! You’re really brave, killing off main characters. (But it does allow for so much author evilness, however.)

But right? I love my darling characters. They just don’t appreciate me as much as they should. XD

(And HAHA I know right???? That combined with me searching baby name books might make people think something extremely untrue XD XD XD)

Hey! My name isn’t Padme either, but you’re welcome to call me that! XD

And surely! Both names are very pretty. Do you prefer one?

And driving. That is awesome! I’m still learning the quirks and challenges of driving too, so I’m with ya!

And I like those picks too! I’ll have to check some of those out.

And those movie picks are awesome too! (I haven’t seen The Greatest Showman, but the songs are GREAT.) And both Mary Poppins films are SO amazing.

Lol, no, Star Wars is actually a film series. (They do have books, however.) I HIGHLY recommend the movies!!! I just never can stop fangirling about it.

And oh! Fantasy is awesome! And yessss, I LOVE when that happened when I’m writing. (Even though it feels rare. *dabs tears*)

THERE ARE SO MANY ANGRY CHARACTERS ON THIS THREAD! XD But right? Switching the methods of evil makes it so much more fun.

(Also pooe Gwen. I feel bad for her. Yet I am an author, so I understand. XD)

*all my characters give me awful glares*

        What? I still love you.

Hey there! YES STAR WARS! Well, I am most definitely a die hard fan for sure. So I got you there!

Great question! It’s so hard to pick, because I have ones for each trilogy! But I really love Leia, Han, Rey, and Padme. For minor characters I really love Lando and Baze and Chirrut! What about you?

Me TOO! I really employ that a lot in my books, much to my characters horror. XD

And again, SAME FOR ME! The brainstorming and fun fact part is honestly the best. Ever. (Even if most of it I’ll never use. XD)

          (Btw, your signature is everything.)

Hey Ethan! Nice to meet you! That’s awesome!! Are they fantasy for children or for YA?

Ohh! I like your book choices! I love Chronicles of Narnia too! Have you seen the movies yet? They’re awesome!!!

I haven’t read LOTR or the Hobbit yet, but I really want to! Is there one you prefer?

I love sending snippets too, but it’s also terrifying too XD And yesssss, I love to kill off a good character. >:)

It sounds like you’ve been giving your characters a hard time, just like me XD XD I must admit, I’m worried one day they’ll try to take over, because they’re done with my author shenanigans.

Haha, me too! I’ve made things quite hard on my children lately. XD

                @nuetrobolt Glad I could help!

Nope! I’ve had a beta reader who was not a writer and she gave me swell feedback. Just make sure that they are a person who reads a lot.  That definitely is good if you want more critiqued feedback. 🙂

                  @nuetrobolt

Hey there! I’ve been a beta reader and I’ve also released books for beta reading too! So I hope I can help with your questions.

I get it, because this can be confusing at times.

Beta reading can be time consuming. (This depends a lot on how long the book is and how slow a reader is.) What a beta reader is required to do is read your manuscript, then point out plot holes, characters acting out of character, grammar mistakes, and storyline and worldbuilding and logic issues. (But if you’d rather your readers not look for a specific thing like, say, grammar, you can tell them to ignore that and they’ll usually be happy to oblige.)

You can really have as many beta readers as you want! I actually think it’s a good idea to err on the side of too many, because the really bad fact about beta reading is very few of the people who sign up to beta actually read your novel. Most people seem to literally fall off the face of the planet after they tell you they’ll beta read for you. XD It’s understandable how sometimes life gets in the way, but be prepared!

You can give your manuscript to your beta readers at any time you want! Whenever you feel like you really need some eyes on it. (Be warned, you’ll most likely regret giving your first draft to beta readers, mostly because it can be very rough, but I still do it anyway. XD)

I like to just give my beta readers the entire manuscript at once. It seems to drag the process out for everyone when it’s given one or just a couple chapters at a time, and I think it might even put us in danger of losing yet more beta readers. XD

The one thing you need to know is just pick people you trust to beta read your novel. They don’t have to be your family. But if that particular person who volunteers to beta read just gives you a bad feeling, don’t give it to them. Stick to people you know will help instead of harm your process of writing. 😀

Wow. That was crazy long. XD Hope that helps though!! Good luck with your writing and the beta reader process!

@shadowwriter161 Hope you don’t mind me responding, I know you already have several replies. But I love talking characters!

I am totally obsessed with knowing my characters inside and out, to the point of maybe way a little too much XD

Like @naiya-dyani said, I really recommend the MBTI for your characters. (And take it for your side characters too!)

It’s great to know a lot of the surface value things about your characters (and important), but the best way for you (and your readers) to know your characters  is to figure out if they are introverted or extroverted, and then find out what they want. (i.e., happiness, peace, joy, revenge, money, family). Even if it’s really vague. Both of those points will change and effect how your character acts and what course the story takes, so if you can find that out, it really will (at least in my experience) unlock the next level of your characters.

                    Also, your WIP sounds great!

@naiya-dyani Wow, that’s a long time you’ve been writing! Kudos to you! And HAHA, I know what you mean. When I first started writing, it was bad. I mean really bad. XD

Thanks for asking! I like a lot of middle grade and childrens’ literature, and I also write it! Contemporary, action, adventure, and I want to get into fantasy and sci-fi soon. (And haha, I think Star Wars did inspire it!)

What do you like to read/write?

@evelyn Hi! Sorry it took forever for me to get back to you!

That’s really a good way to look at it. The government really reflects (most of the time) what the people themselves think and value. So that’s a great angle to think about.

Thanks for this great tip, it really helped!

Hey! Sorry it took me so long to get back to you!

Thanks for these ideas! They are so brilliant. I never thought of thinking like that when putting a twist on governments.

And great tips! Keeping these things in mind will make the world much more rich, I think.

Thank you again for your time!

@cassandraia  Hi and sorry it took me so long to respond! Thank you so much for your detailed response, it was great!

Well, that’s okay because I’m not crazy about medieval fantasies about kings and queens either. They’re not bad, just grossly overdone and a little boring to me at the moment.

Thanks for those examples, they gave me some great ideas! I really want to study some other governments and cultures to help figure out my own. 😀

Thanks again for your help, I really appreciate it!

Haha, I feel ya! My novels are pretty long usually, so it can be a little tough trying to find people who can commit!

Thanks for the tips! I’m going to try to keep looking for people and maybe ask around and see if anyone is up to look at being a critique partner with me!
