Whether you’ve written first-person present or not, do you have any tips for writing it? Any common mistakes you see people commit?
Okay, as you know I primarily write first-person past tense with interludes of third-person past tense.
The biggest differences are psychic distance, voice, and unreliability.
You already have all of t…[Read more]

@noah-cochran The Girl Who Could See by Kara Swanson is a first person present tense book alternating with first person past tense. It made sense, but I think it could easily have gone south. If you’re careful I think you could make it work. It would be easy to forget what tense/person you’re writing in. I’d suggest you try doing a short story or…[Read more]

It is possible I may have started something again.
Absolutely you cannot! Now how goes with you in life?

I may need to clarify something that often gets misunderstood.
I very much agree with Noah (@noah-cochran) with the biblical standard is God’s design that works to the optimization of how He created the family to function.
I think there is a problem sometimes in how we as opposite genders treat each other with less respect and love than we ought…[Read more] -

I find this topic very interesting after spending a couple years researching lgbtq+ and neurodiversity, and trying to figure out what makes up a “male brain” and a “female brain” and what’s just societal pressures and conventions. This one’s very important to me because I struggled with identity as a female growing up and wanted to be genderless…[Read more]

love the idea! got the mental juices flowing.
I would imagine one difference would be there would be a lot less % water content around the earth. More tectonic activity means more volcanic activity means more land mass and less ocean. Would have to be careful about that though, because the ocean is our greatest atmosphere and…[Read more]

@inkhorn Ahh, okay, I see what you’re trying to go for now. My first idea might not really work then. 😂
So, this is giving me The Giver vibes. Also maybe The Matrix. And I can kinda see the archetype of opening a forbidden secret, like Eve in Genesis or Pandora in Greek mythology.
What if she stumbles upon a website containing the secret tho…[Read more]

Thanks! Those were all good ideas. The monetary gain really is out of the picture with this genre. Too bad.
I can’t decide how criminal I want Kyle to be. I’m not imagining him as a crook, and I don’t think this story needs the subplot of a crook, but maybe it does.

I don’t know if we’ve officially met, Noah, but I remember interacting with you a minor amount–perhaps this puts you in the “Creepy Alert” category. ;D
You missed 3 pieces offered for brainstorming: K.A. Grey’s, which was a scene she wants to flesh into a story, Inkhorn’s–she’s having problems with motivation, and my own, which…[Read more]

I’d love to! I don’t have a lot of time until about the end of June, but I’d love to do that sometime. 🙂

It is nice to meet you as well.
My current WIP is about an orphaned flower-seller, Malai Paowsong, and her struggles against dragons, disease, society, and a stranger so that she can support her grandmother and protect her home.
I paint both, and I especially enjoy doing illustrations for myself and my siblings, who write as well.

Greetings!! I have returned victorious from my conquest of the hostile lands of exams! (Well hopefully victorious, I still have to get the results XD)

It’s important to find your the right fit for your writing style! Not everything I say or give to you as advice is going to necessarily work with your vision, it’s simply my judgment based off the experience of what has worked for me for the stories I’ve tried to tell.

Hi, Noah (@noah-cochran),
Here is a possible re-write for the first entry. I think you should keep the concept, however, add a little more depth and reasoning to what Drastan may be thinking. The line can read flat and does not seem to have much purpose other than observational data in its original casting.
Original text:
Drastan was d…[Read more]

I may not be the foremost expert on prose, but I’ll take a gander at answering your questions and lending my own verbose expertise, whatever its meager worth might amount to. I by no means wish to hijack your style, but invariably my suggestions for rewrite / revision are probably going to very much reflect how I personally would…[Read more]
