Hello everyone! My name is Emma Leonard. I’m new here and excited to connect with a community of fellow writers. Especially crazy ones, as I’m crazy 😜. That is, I’m crazy about reading with tea, writing fantasy and poetry, painting, and hiking.

Relatively new to writing, I hope to learn much here so that I may show truth, beauty, and goodness through the written word.

Glad to meet you, Emma! I’m called by the name Noah. 🙂

I am also quite new to writing (wrote my first prose less than a year ago), but I’ve enjoyed every minute of it (well, not every  minute xD).

What’s your current WIP about? Do you paint landscapes or portraits?

It is nice to meet you as well.

My current WIP is about an orphaned flower-seller, Malai Paowsong, and her struggles against dragons, disease, society, and a stranger so that she can support her grandmother and protect her home.

I paint both, and I especially enjoy doing illustrations for myself and my siblings, who write as well.

Hi Emma! Welcome to the crew and it is great to have you here!

I am Josh! Writing and tea is the best combo and honey makes it so much better. XD I love Republic of Tea and one of my favorites is their Organic Elderberry. What is your is favorite tea and brand?

I am also new to writing and I am doing a fantasy WIP that evolves over time into steampunk and then sci-fi. It first starts with the journey of a young exiled princess who learns to be a warrior and that means to be the shield of the innocent and to never give up on doing what is right.

I am also learning poetry so I can use it in my story to weave clues of the past, ancient treasures, secrets, and the future. After reading my top favorite series Redwall by Brian Jacques, I want to also include songs of joy, battle, and sorrow. It just makes life in the story so much more real as music is often one of the best communicators to the heart. What are your favorite series? What genres do you like?

My sister Sarah @ajstoryteller is my personal illustrator for all my mad scientist creations of monsters, beasts, and numerous races. She is amazing at it especially dreaming up something from scratch.

Brilliant, you’ll fit right in XD

That is, I’m crazy about reading with tea, writing fantasy and poetry, painting, and hiking.

Awesome! I draw as well! What are your favorite mediums? I’d love to see some of your art if you want to share it!

I’ve been writing for about two years now! I’m working on a fantasy trilogy! I’m almost done with the last book. (SO close, just five more chapters!) and working on revisions for the others at the same time.

My other hobbies include HEMA, horses, some sewing, and reading (obviously) XD

    What’s your favorite book/show/both?

What’s your favorite part of your WIP?

    Hello, Josh!

Yes it is! (Except for when it spills 😂) Some of my favorites are the Chai Wallah chai and Twinings honeybush-mandarin-orange.

That WIP sounds really cool. It’s like a mashup of all my brother’s favorite things!

Yes, I believe music is important in stories. People are musical, so it makes things so much deeper and more realistic. My favorite book is Lord of the Rings (lots of music in there!), and my favorite series is the Kingdom & Knights of Arrethtrae series by Chuck Black, which presents a lot of biblical truths/allegories. I enjoy fantasy and historical fiction, and some dystopian.

That’s awesome! I love making up crazy creatures and drawing them.

Hello, Rose! It’s a pleasure to meet you as well.

Brilliant, you’ll fit right in XD

😂 All the most interesting people I know are a little crazy.

That’s cool! I use mostly watercolors and sketch pencils, but also occasionally acrylics. Sure, I’ll share a picture of a painting I did when I had a bunch of leftover blue on my palette. It turned out as an unexpected favorite.Blue mountains

Wow, my siblings are doing trilogies as well, but they’re only just beginning. I bet it’s exciting to be so close to finishing! One of my books-in-waiting is so long I’m wondering if it will have to be a trilogy. The only issue is that despite being one cohesive story, it covers such a long time period that the characters would for the most part be different in each trilogized (is that even a word?😂) book.

Horses are awesome. They used to be the only thing I’d draw.

I have really enjoyed a show called The Chosen, which is about the life of Jesus Christ. At first I didn’t think it would be very good, but wow, they did an astonishingly great job with it. Now it’s my favorite show. . .not that I even watch any other TV 😂.

your favorite part of your WIP?

Ooh, that’s hard! I’d say either a section from my antagonist’s POV, which is very sad and sweet, or the ending, which is so FREE and beautiful after the chains of lies have been cast aside.

Oh, exactly! Normalcy is a trap and a fallacy XD I’ve never known a completely normal writer, so I feel like there’s a correlation too XD

Ohhh, that’s lovely!! Watercolors are tough to work with, they’re quite unpredictable, at least for me XD You did it so well!

Wow, my siblings are doing trilogies as well, but they’re only just beginning. I bet it’s exciting to be so close to finishing!

It is exciting, though also a bit scary XD I’ll have quite a bit of revising left to do, but I prefer that over drafting anyway!

That’s an awesome idea! I think it’ll actually be cool to read a plotline that follows three different casts of characters! It’s almost inevitable that every book has a different set of characters, (with some overlap) and it’s something I love about series, you keep getting new and interesting characters!!

How many works in progress do you have? What stage are you at with them?

Horses are awesome. They used to be the only thing I’d draw.

Same, I had a very long horse phase with my art XD

I have really enjoyed a show called The Chosen, which is about the life of Jesus Christ. At first I didn’t think it would be very good, but wow, they did an astonishingly great job with it. Now it’s my favorite show. . .not that I even watch any other TV

I LOVED the Chosen! It was SO good, beautiful writing, acting, photography, all of it was just perfect!! I watched it a few months ago, but I want to rewatch it!

Ooh, that’s hard! I’d say either a section from my antagonist’s POV, which is very sad and sweet, or the ending, which is so FREE and beautiful after the chains of lies have been cast aside.

I love writing from villains’ POVs’ XD It’s scary and messed up but also surprisingly complex and fun to write!

Triumphant endings are just the best, nothing else gives you that same level of excitement!

Thank you! The unpredictability has been fun since I learned to just embrace it.

Thanks for the encouragement! I have four (maybe five) WIPs. I just finished the third draft on one! The others are in that stage when I put down copious amounts of notes and suddenly stop cooking dinner so I can go write down dialogue, description, or ideas 😂. I’ve also been writing poetry and songs concerning that long fantasy WIP I mentioned. This helps me distill the emotion and events I have planned before I actually write the story.

YES! *virtual high-five* They’re filming season three right now, and I’m excited for its release this fall/early winter!

They definitely are! I even changed up my antagonist’s redemption arc so he can share in the triumph and actually finish his arc. This also places a large slice of humble pie before my MC 😂.

That’s something I still very much struggle with XD I like mediums where I have a lot of control, especially as a mainly digital artist, I think I’ve gotten a bit spoiled with being able to manage everything exactly XD Improving at watercolors and traditional art, in general, is something I’ve been planning to work on! I’ve just started getting markers to work for me, which is really fun!

Oh, wow, a third draft is fantastic! I haven’t gotten further than a second draft yet!

That’s awesome, I have two other novels in that stage too! (A contemporary mystery and a high-fantasy) It’s a lot of fun, especially when your characters start tossing you little snippets of dialogue or pieces of characterization!

What WIP are you most excited about?

YES! *virtual high-five* They’re filming season three right now, and I’m excited for its release this fall/early winter!

AHAHA Nothing is more fun than making your MCs eat their humble pie XD I do it as often as possible because they need it XD  And I love redemption arcs! I have one full redemption from villain to protagonist, and it’s probably one of my favorite things I’ve ever written!

    What’s your main antagonist like?

Cool, I just asked my brother to teach me how to make digital art. Hopefully the artsy side of it will help overcome my computer ineptitude 😂.

It is fun! Especially when I’m driving, and someone else has to write it down. 😂 Oh, the looks I get for out-of-context dialogue and mildy creepy metaphors…😂 Measuring my excitement by poetry, the epic high-fantasy. By art, the one I’m working on right now. I do call the epic my “most cherished WIP.”

Me too! I can’t wait to see how they continue! What aspect stood out to you?

I’d have to say that it’s how real they’re willing to be and how impactful it is as a result. It’s literally saving lives.

That sounds awesome! My current antagonist is not an evil dark lord or anything, just a selfish businessman (😂 businessman in a fantasy XD) who can’t forgive himself and is terrified of facing his past even though he knows he needs those lessons. He’s actually the same MBTI type as my protagonist: ISTJ, which I find amusing. They do have some of the same problems.

It usually does, once you start to understand your program, it’s even easier than traditional imo! What program are you going to use?

Ahh, yes, the gloriously creepy metaphors. I love those XD My notes app is filled with the oddest snippets.

That’s awesome! I know that feeling! And then you find one small thing that reminds you of a specific WIP and then suddenly it’s the favorite XD

I’d have to say that it’s how real they’re willing to be and how impactful it is as a result. It’s literally saving lives.

Oh definitely! It’s one of the most grounded portrayals I’ve ever seen, but they still never take away from His divinity.

That’s awesome! I love that idea of having a businessman villain in a fantasy XD! It’s great when villains and heroes have so many parallels, it’s always interesting to read!

I’ll be using Blender, but I won’t do animations, just still renderings. My brother uses it to make little sci-fi shows.

By the way, watercolor pencils are great if you want to have a bit more control like you said earlier. I like to use them on small portraits of characters so that I can be more precise. Have you ever used watercolor pencils before?

Ohh, that’s awesome! If you want to try something that works a bit more like traditional art, I really recommend Krita! It’s free and works amazing! I’ve been using it for years, it’s my hands-down favorite program, it has a similar layout to Photoshop, but made specifically for artists.

By the way, watercolor pencils are great if you want to have a bit more control like you said earlier. I like to use them on small portraits of characters so that I can be more precise. Have you ever used watercolor pencils before?

That’s great advice! I have once or twice, but it’s been years since I’ve tried them! It would be interesting to try it again sometime soon!

WOWWW CONGRATULATIONS!!!! That’s a huge accomplishment!! You should be so proud of yourself, finishing a draft is so hard!

I remember the first time I finished a draft, I just got up from my chair and bounced around squealing for a few minutes, it was an incredible feeling 😀

Also, how does the “quote” function work? I seem to be messing it up a lot.

You select the text from the other person you want to quote, and then click the quote button! It should show up, but you usually have to press enter if you want your text properly separated!

It’s a bit fiddly, you can also use the other quote function! (In the toolbar, the third button from the left) You copy and paste the other person’s text and then use that to quote it, I find it a lot easier to work with! (The quoted text should be indented if you use it that way)

Without darkness, there is no light. If there was no nighttime, would the stars be as bright?
