@taylorclogston Okay, yeah… Apparently the growing up thing is still too new for me to realize when it’s happening. π But yeah, I absolutely loved especially the first Penderwicks book (which I read several years ago, I think)… Which is probably also the best of them all (although, again, I haven’t read them all). But for ages 8-12 I do think…[Read more]

A flat character arc is when the character starts out already knowing the Truth and sticking to that belief despite trouble and testing and changing the world around them. Katniss Everdeen is a really good example. She already knows “society should be based on trust rather than fear”, and spends the trilogy changing the world around…[Read more]

And a trilogy, wow! I wish you the best of luck and endurance! I have no clue how you guys stick something through long enough to get 50k and such!
LOL, blame Liorah! I planned to make it a standalone, but Liorah refused to cooperate (as usual) and I had to change more than half of the book.
XD, Thanks! My first draft of my first book was 72k,…[Read more]

Hi Wingiby! So awesome to see you here again!
I love that story idea! Iβd totally read it! I like how you have a sort of jungle-ish setting, that would be so cool to read about!Howdy! And thanks! I really liked the jungle idea too; in fact, the idea came about after I and my family watched a video about Nepal’s sherpas on Y…[Read more]

I look a lot into older cultures and their beliefs and usually match them to the correlating culture in my work, sometimes adding bits and pieces of other cultures too.Β Ones I’ve made so far:
An Abrahamic religion that is mostly Christian but has traditions and other bits and pieces from Judaism, Islam, Hinduism, and Romani beliefs -…[Read more]

I’m reading Starsight and LOVE it! and @jsclingman a book with some younger person romance (still cute) is the last book in the Wingfeather saga.

Sounds fun!
Not too much. I don’t mind if the story moves really slowly. I work full-time in a non-writing career, so I may have pockets of busyness where I can’t pop on much too. A lot of the roleplay will be explorative, so if characters pop on in and out, it shouldn’t hurt.

@arindown
Hey! How are you doing?-
@beth20
Hey yourself! I’m great. Been working on my fantasy novel, and doing custom shoes for people.😁
How are you?-
That’s good! Cool, what’s it about? Custom shoes? What does that mean? lol
I’m good. We have our house on the market, so a little busy, but we’re all fine.
-
-
@beth20 My novel is mostly about a wizard who hates wizardry, but has to use it to save the world.😆
For the shoes, I just take plain canvas sneakers and paint (mostly butterflies so far) on them. It’s really fun.
So you’re planning to move? That’s a big transition.
What have you been up to?-
Cool!
That sounds fun! Do you make a lot of money doing it?
Yeah. We haven’t gotten any offers yet though
Nothin’ much. School, reading, writing. I’m babysitting my niece and nephew on Friday, and might go hiking with my friends on Saturday. -
Hey, where’d you go? lol
-
-
Sorry.😄
I haven’t made much money on shoes…I’ve mostly done it for friends so far.
Babysitting is fun. How’s the weather there?
I live up north, so our snow is finally gone.😆-
Oh okay
Pretty good today, though it did try to snow yesterday
Nice! It’s pretty much gone here too, little piles here and there. We live in Idaho

Ooh, your story sounds really good, and you described it very well! I really struggle with that.
*considers* As I told Lona, I really struggle with describing my stories in way that’s neither boring, cliche, arrogant, overly-detailed, or confusing. I guess I’ll give it a go.

@arindown I’m trying this quote thing out for the first time. Hopefully it works XD
Your story sounds amazing! I love the necklace thing.
Is Elaina your main character, or do you follow her friends more often?
Thank you! I’m glad you like it π

Hey everyone π
My poor WIP is currently at around 70k words and still doesn’t have a name. It’s a science fantasy reimagining of A Midsummer Night’s Dream, but with a few… improvements. Oberon invades Athens to fulfill an ancient prophecy, Helena becomes a fairy in the process of trying to win back Demetrius, and Nick Bottom and his friends…[Read more]

Sorry for not getting back sooner! 😬 Cool thread idea!
Awesome collage! I need to make one of those… and your book sounds REALLY cool (I’d probably read it if I found it on the shelf at my library, lol). As Erynne said, “60k! Very impressive!” XD (And as she also said, I have horses in my story too. :P)

@arindown I actually have two accounts. They’re both for my two business endeavors. @dakotasmusings is my poetry wall art account; @dakotashues is my tie-dye/crochet/natural dye account. You can follow either one. π

Thank you both for your thoughts on this! You’ve both made me feel a lot better about the first idea. (I really loved it and think it’s the more creative of the two, but I was nervous about how it would be perceived by others.)
