Huh. I’ve never had a hard time coming up with titles– often a title is the first thing I dream up when brainstorming a story.

I joined a group of Emberlings called ‘The Iron Project’, which started through the main forum (https://storyembers.org/forums/topic/strength-in-numbers/) and looks like it might be filling some guild-esque roles. K.M Small shared a flash fiction and we’ve been critiquing it.

I have time to critique longer chapters as well as completed stories.

Six-word stories all seem more like prompts or hooks than completed stories. Of the ones you wrote, I’m most intrigued by “He’s supposed to reign. Not me.” and “Once I too was a ghost.”

@jennythefaun The only thing I need in my writing life at the moment is people who want to read to my work…. also, I am willing and able to beta read.

I just scribble down whatever ideas come to mind. Like this:

—Benor protects Tiel from some danger.

—Tiel leaves an impressive mural in some public place, drawing Hector’s attention

—Anarssan tells Benor and Tiel a story

—Benor works for Jimothy Whitespring and encounters his supposed granddaughter, Lilian

Emphasize the contrast between the protagonist’s crazy life and the normalness of walking in the park. Maybe she’s exhausted and really, really wants some time to herself, but that pesky plot-inciting twist steals that from her.

Stories that completely engross me right from the start tend to feature sympathetic characters striving to do good in horrible situations. For example, Kaladin from The Way of Kings, everyone from A Quiet Place, and Shoko Nishimiya from A Silent Voice. I think the attractiveness of virtue is underrated in modern storytelling. @anne_the_noob14 I’ve never read a book with prophecies that get sent to a spam folder, but the idea intrigues me! I’ll have to check back and see if anyone’s guessed it later so I can look it up.
