To me, word count goals aren&#8217;t bad for prose writers so long as they&#8217;re editing too, but for poets, the closest thing to NaNoWriMo I&#8217;ve heard of is the poem-a-day challenge (where you try to write one poem every day for a month). <p>I agree with Katherine. Most great poetry I&#8217;ve seen tends to walk a fine tightrope, with extreme ambiguity on one side and extreme straightforwardness on the other. And to me, this piece is leaning towards too much straightforwardness.</p>

Dystopian can be a genre all its own, but oftentimes it mixes with other genres, like sci-fi. 1984, Brave New World, That Hideous Strength, Hunger Games, The Matrix, etc. follow that blend. The only other genre I think I&#8217;ve seen blended with dystopian is Western/sci-fi in Book of Eli.</p>

<p>The narrator starts out hopeful in adversity, then the match and flint metaphors seem to explain how adversity can produce hope, and the last part kind of puzzles me with the word &#8220;even&#8221;.</p>

<p>I agree with <a href='https://storyembers.org/members/rolena-hatfield/' rel="nofollow ugc">@rolena-hatfield</a> on this one. He&#8217;s made some bad decisions, but there&#8217;s an attraction to someone who&#8217;s good and in a &#8220;world of light&#8221; so he tries to bridge the gap and (it seems like) he fails.</p>

<p>It really depends on the poem for me. Some poems have titles that come so naturally while others are harder to come up with than the poems themselves.
