What led you to hate the books? (Do you mean all the ones after the first two?) I’m loving the adapted TV films – especially the first four – but they’re all quite wonderful. I especially admire the leadership psychology and decisions and war strategies in the movies. Although the character of Hornblower is not very well developed as I…[Read more]

🙂 Love C&P! Dostoevsky really goes deep in his writing – it took me six months to finish his Brothers Karamazov but it was worth it (the length of time may have had something to do with the translation I picked up). Which translation are you reading?
What I Read: Finished Mistborn The Final Empire (4.8/5 stars – Allomancy is so…[Read more]

P.S. One last note, even if the site is legit, I’d definitely doubt the organization’s ability to “teach” writers when their emails have typos 😛
Just sayin’ 🙂

Hi! First, sometimes scammers use a legit site’s name and change it a bit in the sent email address to “fake it” – so perhaps you may want to see what email address it was sent from? Second, if you did not subscribe to this in your real name and if they somehow got it addressed to your real name in their emails to you, perhaps…[Read more]

@christlover I’m dittoing Steward’s question about where this story is heading. 🙂

PursueWisdom commented on the post, How the New Star Wars Trilogy Teaches Writers to Craft Compelling Symbols 6 years, 5 months ago
Thanks for this great article, Josiah! I really like your analysis of how the new SW trilogy (so far) have dealt with symbolism and their relations to theme/s. It’s quite sad how TFA missed so many opportunities – I felt like it left me hanging by introducing all these great symbols, yet not developing them. On the other hand, TLJ was better than…[Read more]

@anyone else
Is it even possible to have dialogue in a 2nd POV story? If so, how can one go about writing it?

PursueWisdom replied to the topic Guild War : You Know It in the forum Announcements 6 years, 5 months ago
Originally I was going to propose writing “You” to be the hero of an author’s story… basically the voice of the story giving “You”/the hero a pep talk… bordering on humor/fantasy. But it looks I’m behind and a lot of you here have established the author to be “You,” which is a great idea but beyond my current abilities, so I’ll just pop this…[Read more]

(Disclaimer – I’ve never written anything good in 2nd POV :P)
Hmm… Since “You” is now established to be the author, I’m not sure how to describe other people from 2nd POV without being confusing. Perhaps you can give me an example? Because the voice of the story is addressing “You, the author” so I’m not sure how the voice of the…[Read more]

(For once, I think I’m in time in responding to you :P)
Looking at the webpage link you supplied above, and specifically the book cover, I’m thinking of an Indiana Jones adventure… or maybe (to eliminate the cultural reference 🙂 – historical or modern archeological-related adventure, with some mystery related to some ancient…[Read more]

Yes! I enjoyed almost all of her songs on the album Arcadia, except the final track “Gold” (it had too much sexual content issues for me to enjoy the song, but the music was very well done). I like how her voice and style is classical but in a pop/modern sort of way. Her LoTR inspired songs are very elegant 🙂 I found them inspiration for fantasy…[Read more]

P.S. Eurielle’s music is also very well done. Reminds me a lot Enya but her voice is … lighter? Content warning/avoid her single “Gold” – the rest are OK in term so lyrics and can be quite inspiration for characters. 🙂 She also did some songs in the tradition of LoTR…[Read more]

🙂 Love this thread! Very informative. I’m writing down these tracks you all are recommending…
Have anyone heard of audiomachine? They do epic/trailer music as well. I tend to favor listening to the more flowing, beautiful, classical, dramatic instrumentals for my computer work rather than the battles and gore/intense style, and their albums Lif…[Read more]

Hmm… that sounds interesting! And rather do-able. 🙂
So my question is, how can we tell a story without using 1st POV and only 2nd POV without lecturing the reader?
Because the only 2nd POV books I’ve ever read are like “self-help” books.

Wow. I’m trying to think about how to do this here… and all I can come up with is “how on earth can I tell a story using only Second POV??!”
o.O So not helpful. I’ll be watching this thread and see what others come up with. 🙂

Love this, Gabrielle! 🙂 Thank you! I’ll need to bookmark this one for future reference.
P.S. Loved the Marvel examples you gave 🙂 Civil War is one of my favorite Marvel films. And very timely, too – ahem, ahem Endgame.

First, I think applause is called for – thanks Grace, Hope Ann, Brandon, and Josiah for this excellent podcast episode 🙂 I loved hearing about all of your thoughts and agree with them.

🙂 Actually, to clarify, my first time as a beta was for Daeus’s God of Manna. Unfortunately my feedback time was ahem, very sloooww because at the time I overpacked by schedule. 😛 I shall do my best to repent of this bad habit; as far as I see right now, I’m clear for May. Thanks for this lesson!
My favs. in fantasy include the Narniad.
Sci-fi would have to be Ender’s Game (and the rest of the series, plus the Ender’s Shadow parallel series) by Orson Scott Card – it’s a masterpiece about competent leadership, character, morality/ethics, society/social expectations vs. individual desires and fears, war,…[Read more]
