What led you to hate the books? (Do you mean all the ones after the first two?) I’m loving the adapted TV films – especially the first four – but they’re all quite wonderful. I especially admire the leadership psychology and decisions and war strategies in the movies. Although the character of Hornblower is not very well developed as I would have liked, he is a rather positive arc hero character (although he doesn’t really have much of an arc – he’s one of those “good for goodness’s sake” heroes) – I got caught up in the adventures and overall I rate it 5/5. Especially love his brotherhood-friendship with Archie Kennedy. So it’s not perfect, but I’m wondering why it’s as bad as you say….
