🙂 Love C&P! Dostoevsky really goes deep in his writing – it took me six months to finish his Brothers Karamazov but it was worth it (the length of time may have had something to do with the translation I picked up). Which translation are you reading?
What I Read: Finished Mistborn The Final Empire (4.8/5 stars – Allomancy is so complicated and original); started Macbeth (“unseamed him from the nave to the chops” is such an eloquent way to describe a brutal battle scene 😉
What I Wrote: Nothing… in all honesty.
What I Learned: My favorite naval adventurer is officially Horatio Hornblower. 🙂 Been watching the old (late 90s to early 2000s) A&E TV films (very high production quality for TV films though) and lovin’ them. Some content and language issues for younger audiences (you can find some content guide on IMDB.com); the brilliance of plot and characters and adventure is SO thrilling and compelling.I’ve decided to dedicate myself to reading the entire 11 book series by C.S. Forester. 🙂 Below’s a link to some of the movies (they adapted four of the books to eight film length TV episodes, so I’m expecting great things from the actual books). [Disclaimer – I respect copyright laws and have a copy from my library.]
In other words, highly recommended. Esp. to those who are biased towards sea adventure and the time period of the late 1700s early 1800s (as I am).
Here’s a review that led me to it (other than hearing some references to it when I read some reviews of Ender’s Game – which is a sci-fi but the references were mostly due to the brilliant leadership skills depicted in Hornblower): http://www.charitysplace.com/review/horatiohornblowercompleteseries.htm
