Thanks for this lesson!
My favs. in fantasy include the Narniad.
Sci-fi would have to be Ender’s Game (and the rest of the series, plus the Ender’s Shadow parallel series) by Orson Scott Card – it’s a masterpiece about competent leadership, character, morality/ethics, society/social expectations vs. individual desires and fears, war, coming-of-age/growth, the individual struggle to find one’s place in humanity, and a bunch of dilemmas the MC faces trying to do what’s needed and what’s right (and how they can counter each other sometimes). Content warning include some language and violence but they’re not extreme or gratuitous (maybe PG? or PG-13? – please see https://www.pluggedin.com/book-reviews/enders-game
Plus, it’s not a dense read. 🙂
Historical fiction – Les Mis and Dickens of course!
And I’m a Holmes fan when it comes to mystery. 🙂
