Hi everyone!
I also posted this in the “Themes” category, but I felt like it could kind of go in either category. I hope it was okay to put it in both.
I just wanted to get your thoughts on what populations you would like to see better represented in fiction (maybe they are either 1. represented poorly/inaccurately or 2. They are never/rarely…[Read more]

Hi Naiya! Sorry it took me so long to get back to you. That’s a neat idea! Would you mind giving a little more detail into the story? Are there any analogies or aesthetics that you incorporate? They might provide some title-inspiration.

Hi everyone!
I just wanted to get your thoughts on what populations you would like to see better represented in fiction (maybe they are either 1. represented poorly/inaccurately or 2. They are never/rarely represented at all). I wanted to do a poll/vote on what types of characters writers should incorporate more, for example, here are my…[Read more]

@deeprun Do you mean a steampunk book title generator? I haven’t seen one, but that would be neat.

@morreafirebird At the bottom it says to format it like this: “The (your birth month) of (first letter of your first name) and (first letter of your last name).”

Hey everyone!
I came across this cool tool recently. You don’t need to do it exactly the way it says, but it may still be helpful for brainstorming if. Let’s get those steampunk-style gears turning! I know, it’s fantasy, not necessarily steampunk, but whatever.

Also, Maslow’s Hierarchy of needs may be a helpful resource (not that it’s entirely accurate, per se). For example, although people strive for some level of morality, survival is considered to be a more basic need than ethics. This is why formerly-“good” characters in post-apocalyptic books are willing to kill if their physical needs are dire…[Read more]

Yes, I consider myself a writer of speculative fiction, because it’s more general. Here are some of my stories/ideas:
1. “Candles & Kaleidoscopes”: Sixteen-year-old Hayley Marks has a superpower of being able to see memories when she touches objects. However, she’s forced to grapple with her purpose alone, because no one believes her. She…[Read more] -

This sounds interesting! I like the reverse-racism concept (it’s very unique), and I don’t think it would be too controversial. Here are some ways to differentiate people of different races/ethnicities:
– different accents & pronunciations
– the specific words that someone uses
– Color of eyelashes? (e.g., brown hair with blond eyelashes)

Michaela replied to the topic Calling all SCI-FI WRITERS! Idea propositions! in the forum Research and Worldbuilding 6 years, 4 months ago
I’m a wannabe Sci-Fi writer…in other words, I’ve started writing at least one Sci-Fi stories, and I feel like it’s “my” genre. A lot of the stories I start to write/think about writing are kind of crossovers between Sci-Fi & fantasy.

Michaela replied to the topic Discussion: Class systems in fantasy? in the forum Themes 6 years, 4 months ago
Great question!
Someone may have said this already, but a culture’s values often determine class systems. For example, I had an idea for a fictional culture that prizes asymmetry, quirkiness, and oddities – a value that trickles into its concept of beauty (e.g., women purposefully wear their mascara asymmetrically, etc.). Since this culture…[Read more]
