@daeus-lamb Nice to hear from someone on the other end of the process! That’s what I’m reminding myself!
@maddiejay I’ll definitely check out that book! Thanks for the recommendation!
@kb-writer I’m beginning to identify the theme in my story, too! It feels like squinting at a marble block until you can see the makings of a statue hidden inside,…[Read more]

My story is set in the real world, and it is difficult to world build when you don’t have the freedom to do whatever you want.

@the-golden-light Knaphello, fellow guild-friend! It is I, David. 🙂
Pretty sure you’re fine, but I’ll tag the Master (Mistress?) herself, @maddiejay . Everything’s kind of shifting around right now, everyone being in a new guild with no badge that has to forge its own identity. But just join on in! I think we’re doing alright so far, and there’s…[Read more]

Awesome, glad to hear it. I believe the last Ember book comes out this year, so you’d be just in time to not have to wait!
I agree. Worldbuilding within the real world is a special kind of tricky, and he seems to have that down to a science.

Excellent topic. My contribution would usually be The Hunger Games, because obviously, but I feel like that ones been picked to death.
And since Six of Crows and ATLA’s amazing worlds have been mentioned already, I’ll go with An Ember in the Ashes. The world Sabaa Tahir weaves is complex and brutal, and from the first page of the…[Read more]

Really just sounds like they haven’t actually read the Inheritance Cycle. Paolini excelled in all the places Tolkien fell short, and then some. (He also just released a new book of short stories, so !!!)
Also, please, please do. Elantris is my favorite novel of all time. The Rithmatist never ceases to amaze. I can’t believe how muc…[Read more]

Alright, now that you have all answered these questions with your protagonists, let’s take our antagonists on! (If you don’t have an antagonist, feel free to use another character as well).
To remind you of the questions:
1. What’s something that your character doesn’t know about h…[Read more]

I think of this as like a secret place. A secret hollow. (Which it kinda is, heh. XD) And yeah, I do mostly agree with @i-david ‘s sense of dreamers. (I know I am. XD)
I’m a bit distracted right now though, I’ll get back to you with more later.

THREE FEET!?!?!? WOW. We had like 1 inch yesterday but that’s pretty much it for the past few weeks.
If you don’t mind me asking, what state/country do you live in? (If you don’t want to answer that’s perfectly fine.)

1. Cool! To further the question: What does he think he’s trying to accomplish? What is he actually trying to accomplish?
1. Some further questions: Why doesn’t he think he’s capable of good? What would it take to do good?
3. That sounds like it makes his life very interesting…

Happy to be of service as your almost-editor. 🙂
I also agree with @maddiejay. Even in third-person, it is best to focus on one particular person instead of bouncing around all sorts of POV’s.
I can’t wait to see the edited scene!
