Dealing with multiple ideas
Most writers have more story ideas than they know what to do with. If youβre in this boat, you need to know how to cut through the clutter and make the right decisions. Here are a few things Iβve learned that have helped me.
Write everything down
Writing your story ideas down cements them in your brain. Youβll be ab…[Read more]

@noodle-mum Well, in terms of not finishing things, there are a lot of us in the same boat π
*looks at her WIP, which has been around for 3 1/2 years and hasn’t even gotten past the first plot point yet*
And as for Crysti… her personality is sort of like mineΒ xD (For some reason, I can clearly define characters in my stories except for my…[Read more]

oof, I get the busy part! I just got back from summer camp as a councilor a couple weeks ago and it’s been non-stop ever since! As for writing, I tend to write a large variety. But my theme/goal is always to communicate the unwavering love Jesus has for us, as well as the emotional healing and soul-restoration He has for…[Read more]

@noodle-mum Hey there, Alli! Welcome to New Wessex!
I’m Grace, and as for how I’m doing… life is pretty busy, especially in the summer when I have a lot of volunteering/camps to be involved in. I thought I would have more time to write, but I’m afraid not.
What kind of things do you write?

Thank you for answering my question. π I’m encouraged to hear you believe as I do that being feminine is a strength and that God can give us the strength to become this. But I was wondering, do you think God made all women to be feminine? Different from men in a way that is more than physical?
Everyone is different and I wouldn’t expect…[Read more]

Yes, I thought so to. π
I just wanted to encourage your desire of being a wife and possibly a mother someday. That’s not only a beautiful goal, but I think also a very noble one. π Personally being a wife is one of the most satisfying areas of my life and after being married for nearly two years now it just keeps getting…[Read more]

@kate well that’s good XD oh, definitely. And I don’t believe that all women need to be nurturers and all men need to be protectors, but I still agree. Especially within Christian circles sometimes. I see it especially with guys who use the Bible to justify oppressing women and being absolutely awful. And often you don’t feel comfortable admitting…[Read more]

@KATE I WAS JUST CONTEMPLATING THIS!!!! I always wondered why male characters are allowed to be strong in ways that don’t pertain to fighting, but women aren’t. Sure, we have Aragorn, Legolas, Gimli, and Boromir who are all physically strong people, but I’ve yet to hear it be said that Samwise Gamgee is weak simply because he’s only 3 feet tall…[Read more]

*nods* New Wessex Worldbuilding, I think. That was a fun, edifying thread. I’m pretty sure that’s how I most got to know my guildmates. We should resurrect that.

I pretty much agree with what people have said — the novelty might wear off, and it isn’t anything new.
Echoing Sarah, my personal reason for not being on is that my online activities here at SE generally correlate with how much time I’m actually spending writing… which, if taken up by school and summer homework, isn’t a lot :/…[Read more]

@kate this is an awesome analysis! I will admit that I haven’t read the LOTR books (only seen the movies–I know; don’t attack me or something; I’ll get to them soon), and in the movies, we don’t see much of Eowyn and Faramir. There’s just one scene of them standing together. So I didn’t actually realize they were together until the internet…[Read more]

Enlightening analysis! π I hadn’t thought of this character for a while, but you really put her in a different light for me and brought up traits that I had never thought about in her before.
And I loved what you said to Noah about feminism being a spiritual disease. The problem with feminism is that it takes the place of God and becomes…[Read more]

Hey Saxon Scribes,
As you’ve noticed, activity has been pretty low here. Same with the other guilds.
That’s fine if everyone’s busy, but if it’s just because the guilds weren’t attractive enough…
Well, we should do something about that then.
After talking it over with some of the other SE staff. We have an idea. This isn’t a premade…[Read more]

@kate I love this post so, so much. 😍
Faramir and Eowyn’s relationship is one of my favorite love stories in literature, and gahh! this just is such a beautiful summery! *fangirls*
I guess what makes me the maddest about the current “strong female warrior” trend is that it can tend to give off the idea that there is only one type of strength. As…[Read more]

Excelent analysis!
I was just thinking the other day how I would like to see less of the “strong female warrior” type and more realistic women in stories. I would like to see more strongΒ female characters. Where are the girls that are just being girls? I don’t mean the girly-girls. Just like there’s more to guys than explosions and bodily harm -…[Read more]
