Michelle replied to the topic The Importance of Fantasy in the forum General Writing Discussions 7 years, 8 months ago
Fantasy is my genre of choice, both to read and to write, so this thread (although it appears to be inactive at the moment…) caught my attention.
One reason I enjoy writing fantasy is that I am kind of lazy. Fantasy allows me to play with the edges of what is real without worrying if my facts are right. =) I also like mucking around with…[Read more]

Ah! Great questions. I can’t answer any of them to their full extent, and there are some I won’t bother trying to touch, but I may be able to shed at least a little light on your first question… by tagging these people: @hope-ann @josiah @briannastorm @daeus-lamb
But… I will say that there is worth (quite a bit) to re…[Read more]

@h-jones Ah, what an amazing idea! Absolutely, I would love to! If we all call ourselves by Christ`s name, we ought to be able to unite in the exaltation of His inspired Word. Thanks for suggesting it!! Any special method?

Oh, and I would agree with you on the Feeler thing part, only @josiah is an INFJ, so… XD Perhaps a Dominant Feeler thing. The INFJ dominant function is the Introverted INtuition, while for INFP it’s the Introverted Feeling. Also for the ENFJ (that’s Daeus, and his magic could probably be classified as more soft than not) though instead of…[Read more]

Gosh. I should have known that Sanderson was the one who used the terminology of hard and soft magic systems to differentiate between the two ends of the spectrum of handling magic! *facedesk* Honestly, guys, my memory is so broken sometimes…
@taylorclogston I guess, at the end of the day, it comes down to (again) me simply wanting to define…[Read more]

Great thoughts guys. And good distinction between hard magic and soft magic. I definitely lean more towards soft. I see the merit in hard magic, and it certainly has a lot more wiggle room for cool originality instead of just ‘ooh, spiritual giftssss’, but soft magic definitely fits with my…[Read more]

@kate Basically, everything goes back to the source. And when the source is a solid, theological view instead of science, one can take a magic system much further. (though, to be fair, Sanderson’s magic and religion makes much more sense when you realize he’s Mormon and study that to some degree, like @josiah said.)
@karthmin Sanderson wrote out…[Read more]

Ah, so the theory has more to do with the starting point than the mechanics then?

@josiah @daeus-lamb @jane-maree
So I applied for a guild, and am waiting to be put in one. I am wondering if I can be in Meraki since my sister is? My sister (Selah Chelyah) and I like to discuss what we are writing on here, so its hard to keep secrets. We would like to be in the same guild if we can.

R.M. Archer replied to the topic Dudes, how do I write guys?? in the forum Characters 7 years, 8 months ago
I have multiple male characters in my current trilogy who are more gentle and emotionally open than the stereotypical guy, so I wonder from time to time if they’re overly “feminine,” but I also have more stereotypical guys, and I think all their personalities reflect their upbringing accurately. (All that said, I’ll be keeping an eye on this…[Read more]

@josiah Okay. Um, i think so? So your saying i could still post it on this poetry form, because i’m not posting all of it, and because not everyone can see it(only the people in guilds can), correct?

Katthewriter replied to the topic Poetry Question in the forum Poetry Discussions 7 years, 8 months ago
@josiah Okay thanks. Sorry, i’m still slightly confused. I’m not going to be posting it anywhere else, i don’t have a blog or anything, so it won’t be published anywhere else except for just my guild instead of this big poetry one. and it also won’t be all of it. So if i did post that bit just on my guild, could the board still submit it if they…[Read more]

So I have a story poem, partly done that i might submit to here, so should i not share it on here if i want to submit it? Or should I , so if it’s not very good people can tell me that way i don’t have to make the submitting people have to look over it if it’s already not good enough?

@josiah I agree with everyone! I LOVE the Manifesto! Its the best thing I have ever signed. When our printer works again, I am going to print it and hang it somewhere. I really appreciated the part about praying over our writing, and reading Scripture. It’s easy for me to forget to consult the greatest Author. Thank you so much!

@Josiah This is so cool! 😀 I signed it and sent a copy to a few of my friends, and I’m going to frame the printed copy and hang it on my wall.
I think the resolution that most resonated with me was the last one – especially the part about remembering my worth is in being a child of the King, not in my authorship. It can be so easy for me to…[Read more]

Thanks for letting us know, Catwing! There’s not a great way on our ends to fix this unfortunately, but since activity pages aren’t visited often, I’m probably just going to let this be for the time being. Thanks for catching this, though!
