Noah Cochran started the topic Prose Questions in the forum General Writing Discussions 3 years, 11 months ago
I know what should and shouldn’t be done in prose is highly nuanced and opinionated, but I chose a few examples that I find myself running into, to ask y’all about. So, my question is, in the following examples, are they okay as they are, or if not, how would you write them? (aka, is there a better way to write them?)
Here they are:

Aefflaed’s Weakness: A Love Story
This touching story began as a short story and quickly evolved into an epic. (well, a short novel, but still an epic story….if I can toot my own horn a bit. )
In my previous WIP, The Adventures of the Last Aygiff,…[Read more]

Mr.Trip Williams started the topic Young boy with awkward speech. Thoughts? Help Please. in the forum Fantasy Writers 3 years, 11 months ago
@everyone
I wanted to add a young boy acting as a page to come call on Aefflaed, my main character, to call her to the king, and in the process of the boy saying her name wrong, it kind of developed into this thing where the boy has a speech issue where he has trouble saying short vowels and going from one vowel to the next. I’ve…[Read more]

Thanks!
Charging them head on at night is too dangerous. We can’t see well in the daytime, (why not?) let alone night, and we don’t know the terrain.”
I think the reason I had put in was there was a great amount of fog that had descended in the plateau and the lowlands it overlooked, so daytime visibility had been shot.…[Read more]

Wow… Another heart gripper. I’m nearing the end of my WIP, and some of the scenes are getting epic. I just have to share it… especially since I’m so close to it, so I don’t know how it will be taken by other people… but this scene is the capstone to my WIP… Please let me know if there is anything confusing in it…
here’s…[Read more]

wasn’t sure who else to call out to, but I remembered you did ask to be updated if I posted another section… This one isn’t too emotional, like the last one, but hopefully a bit of fun…

Noah Cochran replied to the topic Character Voice Game in the forum Characters 4 years ago
Well, in my real work when I actually know the characters, I use it constantly! It’s one of my favorite poetic devices to convey atmosphere and backstory. Depending on the character and their voice, I can even go slightly overboard with it XD
However, in this case I know nothing about the character, so it was random for o…

Excellent character voice is extremely hard to pull off, and so like I do with all hard things in life, I decided to make a game out of it.
It’s a joke.
I’m kidding.
Mostly. 😉
Anyways, to the point. Character voice makes everything from dialogue to normal scenery descriptions pop off the page, but, for me at least, it is a very difficult…[Read more]

@joelle-stone here you go!
Chapter 4
In the morning, a gray fog had settled over the fort and the surrounding terrain, minimizing visibility, and giving the land an eery look. Abner woke early, and patrolled the walls, straining his eyes for any sight of the enemy, but the stubborn fog kept them blind.
Lieutenant North joined him,…[Read more]

Me and my class are going to battle a court case (not real) against another class in front of a judge. My role is the Closing Prosecution Attorney. It’s really fun!
Sorry I haven’t been on lately! Does anyone have ideas for what’s next?
