@cassie-hartfinh Knock yourself out! Write as much as you like, and we’ll happily edit it after you. Ideally wait another day…just to see if there are any more ideas–or more developments–on what we’ve already got. But other than that, it’s totally free for you to write! 😀
@steward-of-the-pen Oooooh, nice questions! (Also, do I see a…[Read more]

@esther-sears
@scarletimmortalized
@e-b-raulandsKeep it up guys! These ideas are great. (Jane will love either Historical Fantasy, a grumpy teddy, haunted house, or a food argument xP)
Think as much as you can about how you can best chse a story that will have a character with a super strong voice. Character voice is important, ad don’t…[Read more]

Going to toss it out there that there are often two ways to make something stand out, just as @fctait said.
You can have a totally normal situation (think back to your restaurant writing exercises from the start) or you could have the environment affect the prose. If you’re writing about the day that marshmallows decided to rebel and throw…[Read more]

Okay, sorry that I’ve been kinda chaotic and sporadic and stuff lately guys, but things have kinda been blegh and yeah. Anyways. I am here now and hopefully can make some suggestions.
BASICALLY, what @ariella-newheart summarised is what we are going with.
I really enjoy the ideas that are being thrown around, and my one concern is that we do…[Read more]

Hey guys!
Just a heads up, try not to tag Jane into anything on this thread. All of the tags appear in her inbox and she’s having to glance at them and then delete them and stuff. So avoid tagging her for now.
These ideas are all sounding great guys! And yes, it is totally fine to start offering plot ideas. That will mean more ideas in…[Read more]

@jillifish In answer to your potato question, Jane was casually throwing a fandom reference out there. Chances are I’m the only one here right now who has read it hough. </3
One of the Reckoners books by Brandon Sanderson. Admittedly, it was used in a different way, so, more of an adaptation of a quote than a quote. 😛

@steward-of-the-pen Yesss, Storm Wielder should be a lot of fun.
Flightless? Yeah, I’m actually thinking, maybe, that I’ll be going through and editing it next year, then getting it out to alpha readers. *hides* So crazy, but it actually turned out really quite well. I did a series of blog posts about it here, here, here, and here. Hopefully, one…[Read more]

- Good job for finishing! *cheers*
- Hahaha, yeeeup. If it’s a comfort, we all go through that phase. I regularly look back on things I wrote only a few months ago and wince because it seems to sound so bad. But often putting it to the side and working on smaller projects for a while as you improve helps you get back into it…

Okay, all of this sounds absolutely stellar. Like, really guys. Good job. I’m impressed.
NOTE: @steward-of-the-pen is close, there is a 2500 word limit. Jane only has so much time to go through all of them.
*sits back to think*
- Plotline sounds brilliant, unique, and generally awesome.
- The character sounds stellar.
- The resulting c…

HOW GUILD WARS WORK:
Whenever I announce a Guild War, I’ll tag you in, and we’ll have a thread where we discuss ideas, (here) and then set up a Google Doc for everyone to edit. Typically one person will volunteer to writer everything that had been decided on into a story, then everyone else comes along and edits it. In this stage you can add ent…[Read more]

BY THE WAY, the deadline is Monday the 17th. So, two weeks to work on it.
Also, I am looking after the Meraki Guild this war as well due to their guildmaster judging.

“Write any story you choose with the most original and creative prose that you can.”
THE TIME HAS COME PARIMIS.
War has been declared among the guild’s of Story Embers, and Parimi Alca is in terrible danger.
The competition will be tough. Avensbeck has won all of the prompt wars so far, and if we aren’t careful, they will dominate again. Also, t…[Read more]

J.A.Penrose started the topic Lesson 14 : Character Descriptions that Don't Slow Down the Scene in the forum Annual Theme Discussion 7 years, 9 months ago
This question was raised as an aside by @consciousdreamer a few days back, and I figured it could be good to spend one of our Monday lessons on it.
All too often, you can be reading a book and then have to put it down and rub your eyes because the writer just had their entire cast described down to every freckle in one chapter. You have all of…[Read more]

@e-jo3 I totally get that. *nodnod* I have to have something in my inbox to actually deal with it, so I tend to have days when I have 30+ notifs from SE and then sit down and do a lot of replying.
Main things that have been regular are the Annual Theme Discussions and the Critiques.
