Jane Maree started the topic PROMPT GUILD WAR – Mona Lisa Comedy! in the forum Announcements 7 years, 9 months ago
The word war has only just finished (though the winners haven’t been worked out yet because we’re still collecting word counts) but THE NEXT PROMPT WAR HAS ALREADY BEGUN.
And guys
I’m excited for this.
The prompt:Â write a comedy based on the Mona Lisa

I’m going to be honest with you: I put off doing this topic for a long time for no good reason at all, but NOW I’M FINALLY DOING IT.
Basically…we’re going to develop a fictional world for our guild.
I personally thought “wow, this won’t help us write more words.” and while that is completely true, it still isn’t totally useless. I think we…[Read more]

Jane Maree started the topic {2018 – Week 18} PROSE RECAP + Intro to our next topic! in the forum Annual Theme Discussion 7 years, 9 months ago
It’s been 18 weeks since the first time I wrote up a guild lesson/discussion post all the way back in June.
And now I have officially exhausted my internal list of things to cover under the guise of prose, so we’re going to move on to a NEW topic! Before that, I’m going to quickly recap everything we’ve done to do with prose so far. I have full…[Read more]

Jane Maree replied to the topic {2018 – Week 17} Writing from the POV of the Opposite Gender in the forum Annual Theme Discussion 7 years, 9 months ago
@katthewriter nice!
@scarletimmortalized Ahh, I’ve actually had that same struggle before. Because I started off with guys, when I tried to switch back to girls I ended up with a few flat, boring female characters, even though my male characters were really good.
It’s definitely great to have a guy to beta read, but even if you don’t have…[Read more]

Aw man, timing, right? 😒 I personally would say that outlining is part of writing, so I’ll let that pass too. 😛@skye
Sure! Plays can count as well. 😉 -
Jane Maree started the topic {2018 – Week 17} Writing from the POV of the Opposite Gender in the forum Annual Theme Discussion 7 years, 9 months ago
Writing from the POV (point of view) of someone of the opposite gender can be challenging to do realistically, but that doesn’t mean it’s impossible. If you’re a girl, writing from a girl’s perspective will naturally come easier simply because girls know how girls think. And vice versa for dudes. However, sometimes you don’t want to write fro…[Read more]

Okay, I’m not going to lie, I had a bit of a mental scream when I realised it was almost 6 pm (in my timezone) and I hadn’t written the week’s topic yet. I brainstormed ideas and came up with a whole lot of nothing much.
And so here I am. And this week I’m
being lazyasking you guys for some feedback!– Am I doing okay with our weekly topics?

ATTENTION ALL MEERKATS!
See what you can add to the doc in the next day and a bit to make this story amazing! You have some brilliant ideas, we just need to work on getting it all there. I’ll be going over it again to tweak things at the end, but I want this to be as much of your own independent work as possible.
So go for it guys! Make Jane…[Read more]

Jane Maree started the topic {2018 – Week 15} Why Everyone Should Read Their Old Writing in the forum Annual Theme Discussion 7 years, 10 months ago
Writers are (or certainly should be) constantly growing in their craft. We work on it every week, every month, every year, and as time goes on we learn how to make our stories better, stronger, deeper.
As we grow to be better writers than we were before, it’s very easy to look back on old writing, cringe, hide it in a deepest corner of d…[Read more]

@esther-sears Sounds like a plan!
Okay guys, just over one week left, and we need to get a character, plot, theme, etc. AND GET IT WRITTEN AND AHHHH IT NEEDS TO BE AWESOME. Or Jane may well kill me… XD
So guys, let’s look at answering some basic questions:
- Who are the characters? (develop)
- What is the genre?
- What is the theme/arc?

Hey guys!
Just a heads up, try not to tag Jane into anything on this thread. All of the tags appear in her inbox and she’s having to glance at them and then delete them and stuff. So avoid tagging her for now.
These ideas are all sounding great guys! And yes, it is totally fine to start offering plot ideas. That will mean more ideas in…[Read more]
