I stand at the doorway, watching. Someone I don’t recognize sits in the corner, a mountain of books surrounding them. Some of the girls-Rachel, Bama, Chalice, R.M. Archer, another girl-they sit chatting together.
I wonder where the others are.
Infact, how long have I been gone? To my little extroverted self it feels like an eternity, but really,…[Read more]

Caught off guard, my heart beating a bit faster than usual, but I knew it would return to normal in a minute. I smile at the newcomer. “No, not too frightened. Reminded me of a little brother for a moment, he had a tendency to spring up from unexpected places to. Good to see you, Corissa.”

@corissa 🙂 Thank you! Ah yes, I remember college, it’s very skilled at keeping people occupied. So what kind of stories do you write? 🙂

Yay! 🙂 Thank you @corissa it’s nice to know it’s not just me. And hi! I don’t think I’ve met you before.

Hey Saxon Scribes,
For something like six months now, we’ve studied character development every week. It’s been a good journey, but now I’m coming to the point where I don’t have a whole lot more to discuss. If anything else comes to mind, I’ll make a topic out of it, but if nothing comes to me, next week I think we could start on something…[Read more]

Hey, everybody! Sorry it’s been so long since I posted the last installment of “Raiders of the Lost Arc,” but my tablet has been doing weird things and I can’t interact with the site properly. (FYI, the only reason I can post this is because I blackmailed one of my family members into letting me use their device just so y’all won’t die from the su…[Read more]

@literatureforthelight Exactly! That’s exactly what I had in mind. Leave the audience wondering if the fire pixie was real. I couldn’t have said it better.
Also, @corissa I think we could do the same kind of thing with his moral dilemma. Give both choices enough weight to leave the audience wondering if he made the right choice. Whatever he…[Read more]

In light of the prompt, I like Kate’s most recent idea, even though there have been so many good points raised. Remember, we’re going for a scene, which doesn’t need to include a full arc or plot sequence, just needs to show something about our character.
The only thing about being uncertain about the fire pixie is that if we want the kid’s…[Read more]

I tried replying twice a few hours ago, and neither one showed up, so let’s see if third time’s the charm. 😛 😉
@kate I absolutely love that idea!
What would we do with the ending then? Would he still go back to his chimney sweep life, and if so what would that make the theme? Or would we give it a warmer, happier ending, where he does get…[Read more]

@Julianne welcome! Thanks for jumping right in and contributing; great thoughts.
@Corissa I love the idea of him being kind to the fairies. Great way to spin it.
But guys, guys— before we go any further I had a thought. I’ve been trying to think how we can better fulfill the prompt, moving on from the story and developing an engaging voice…[Read more]

@kate I vote for the one where he stays with the kind pixies. The heavier idea created by @corissa would be amazing, but I think it’s pretty intense for a five-year old.
What if (building on staying with the kind pixies) he’s offered a successful life, if he’ll leave the chimneysweep profession? Like some person takes pity on him and gives him…[Read more]

@Chalice great point!
@Corissa *is bowled over and has to take a moment to collect her breath* I love all those ideas, but the one that’s really clicking for me is the one where the pixies are sweet and the masters don’t know it, and in the end the little chimneysweep chooses to keep at his occupation and stay with his pixie friends. That would…[Read more]

@corissa, I like the third idea. It’s a good dilemma. Though this is a five year old we’re talking about, maybe a mature one, but from my experience of being a five year old, it seems more likely for him to go for the easier choice. Just throwing that out there. What would push him to give up some really cool friends for someone he hardly knows?

@corissa *sniffles* OKAY THAT’S ENOUGH. We’re not writing a tragedy here.
What do the rest of you guys think about the chimneysweep idea?

@Corissa I KNOW. It’s horrifying. Sometimes they got stuck in the chimneys and no one would go down after them. :'( :'( :'(
