What would we do with the ending then? Would he still go back to his chimney sweep life, and if so what would that make the theme? Or would we give it a warmer, happier ending, where he does get reward/recognition? Or maybe the person he saved doesn’t recognize him, but someone else does, and he accepts the new life, and the death of the fire pixie is symbolic of the death of his old life? Because he doesn’t need imaginary friends any more (if that’s what it was), since he now has real friends?
