Btw was this directed at my character or at Basil?
Yours. 🙂 🙂

Ohohoho, this is going to be cool!!
_______
I was internally screaming but that was barely unusual.
Don’t let them see you don’t move don’t breathe, preferably don’t exist. If they saw me I was going to be in trouble, I shouldn’t be here and I had no valid excuse for why I was.
If I told them they would think I was lying and I was going to antagonize them even further and if I in any way ended up in a fight I was going to die.
I was vastly outnumbered, the terrain wasn’t great, and besides that, my only working hand was not my dominant one and I only had a knife.
I was going to die in so many different ways, all of them terrible.
My knees were still trembling so I stayed leaning against the wall and hoped I would vanish into thin air. I had wished that more times than I could remember. Sometimes I wished I would vanish permanently, just so it could all be over.
The man was still glowing and I was seriously wondering whether this was a dream. If not, he was probably a double threat. If so, then this was going to get much worse very fast.
“Who’s there?”
It was the glowing man. This was getting worse fast.
I stiffened and the trembling got worse. If only it would stop, I didn’t need a constant reminder that I was beyond terrified, and I certainly didn’t need anyone else to find out.
Was I supposed to answer? If I didn’t, perhaps they wouldn’t notice me. But maybe they’d already seen me and then it would just antagonize them and–
But if I answered maybe someone would recognize me and then this would be far worse– It was already bad enough.
I shrugged, resigning myself to the fact that I was going to die. Overdue anyway.
I took a step forward, out of the narrow hallway and into the light. I remembered the light from my dream, how I’d reflexively dodged away from it, but how scared I’d been in the all-consuming darkness. There were no good options. The light didn’t want me and I didn’t want the darkness.
“I am,” I replied to the earlier question, then automatically cleared my throat. My voice seemed to have changed after the accident, it sounded permanently slightly hoarse. Probably because of the smoke.
“And you are?” The larger kneeling man asked, sarcastically.
“On my way out of here. Does someone know where ‘out’ is?” I asked, carefully keeping my voice friendly but distant.
“Wish we knew, we’ve all tried, I don’t think there is an exit,” the glowing man said, apologetically.
He sounded friendly, which set me on edge. He was trying to set me at ease and I made a point of not doing what other people wanted of me. It was the only way to stay alive.
I let the news sink in. Trapped. No way out. Nowhere to go. Trapped with people who either hated me or soon would. This was bad, this was terrible, there had to be some way to get out, some way to make this stop. Soon I’d wake up and it’d be gone. Wouldn’t it?
I felt the panic rising again, my thoughts spiraling, focusing on how helpless I was, and everything that would go wrong. I would never get used to being helpless, nothing frightened me more.
I raked my hand through my hair, pushing it away from my face, then realized that it meant the others would get a good look at me and I couldn’t emphasize enough how much I didn’t want that.
It was too late, but I ducked my head in an almost reflexive action to stay hidden.
“That’s too bad,” I commented, satisfied that my voice didn’t sound concerned. I was, but I couldn’t let them find out.
I felt another coughing fit coming on and I tried to stifle it. It was possibly a result of the tension but whatever it was, it wasn’t welcome. It made me feel even more helpless besides drawing attention. I hated drawing attention.
As soon as it was over I noticed the glowing man taking half a step backward, possibly without noticing.
I smiled, though it lacked any real happiness. It had for a long time.
“Don’t worry, bad decisions aren’t contaigous.”

I’M BACKKKK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I’m soooo sorry I haven’t been on in an eternity…
Niarok
Niarok’s hand immediately went to his sword as a huge bat dragon hybrid thing rose out of the floor.
At least Lorcan had given him warning.
“Finally. Things are becoming interesting again,” the assassin muttered.
Niarok smirked in spite of himself, yanking his longbow off his back. He fitted an arrow to the string as Lorcan drew his twin blades.
“Here’s the plan. I go left. You go right. Sound all right?” Lorcan hissed.
Niarok nodded his affirmation, and the two warriors split. Niarok did his best to ignore the strange events occurring behind the monster.
Although it did appear that Qatar was alright after all…
Niarok found himself face to face with the creature. Lorcan dodged in from behind and slashed the thing’s legs with his swords.
The creature collapsed slightly, roaring and flapping its wings. It decided to take out its anger on Niarok.
But Niarok was too fast for it. He shot an arrow straight into the thing’s eye.
It roared again and clawed at the sharp point in its eye. Niarok examined its chest where he hoped its heart lay. The scales were too thick for an arrow to penetrate, so he hefted his sword and hurled it.
It was, thankfully, one of those one times in ten that he actually hit the target with the make-shift spear.
The creature fell to the ground, writhing in its death throes.
Lorcan appeared from behind the monster, carefully avoiding the tail.
“That was a mighty stupid move, Niarok,” he snapped, although Niarok could tell he was sort of impressed.
“Perhaps. But I’ve practiced with that sword for the occasions that I have to do something like that.”
Lorcan tilted his head in acquiescence.
The two men turned their attention to the strange events occurring in the back of this secondary cave.
Qatar crouched across from a strange glowing man, and Quin lay between them.
As Niarok watched, the glowing man stood and glanced back into the shadows.
Niarok squinted and made out the form of a man, hunched with his hands in his pockets.
He winced. He saw himself in the man.
Afraid, but unwilling to show it. Uncomfortable, and trying to communicate it without being obvious. On guard, and not wanting to be given a chance to feel at ease.
And possibly crippled.
Niarok saw the same, almost feral, look in many of the people he’d had to perform amputations on.
He winced again.
Here was one man he would have to be very careful about.
The glowing man shouted at the other guy, and he replied shortly. Of course, Qatar chose that moment to feel bitter and make the other guy even more uncomfortable.
Niarok sighed inwardly, careful to keep his expression neutral as he retrieved his weapons from the monster’s now still body.
The man broke into a coughing fit, and the glowing man took a step back almost involuntarily.
“Don’t worry, bad decisions aren’t contagious,” the man said, louder than he’d spoken so far.
Niarok’s stomach turned. He had far more in common with this man than the man would ever know…
He took a step forward, sheathing his sword as he did so.
“I don’t want to hurt you,” he called into the shadows. “But this man is right. There’s not an exit, as far as we’ve been able to tell. The temperature is dropping, and we’re all getting ready to head back to a much drier part of the cave where we can keep warm. If you want to join us, you may, but I understand if you’d rather not.”
There was a scrabbling of rocks to Niarok’s right, and he glanced up to the ledge on the far side of the cavern. There was a short-ish man up there, glancing around with glassy eyes.
His eyes caught on the glowing man.
“You’re… glowing,” he said incredulously.
Niarok allowed a grin.
My thoughts too.
He quickly sobered. The temperature was continuing to drop, and most of the people in the cavern were now visibly shivering. Niarok was especially concerned for Quin and Qatar, one of whom was weak, and the other of whom was wet.
He looked back up at the guy on the ledge. “We’re going somewhere that’s hopefully warmer,” he called. “You’re welcome to join us if you want.”
Niarok glanced at Qatar and their eyes met. He had never seen such openness in Qatar’s gaze. He was scared for Quin.
Niarok raised an eyebrow. Do you need help? He communicated.
Qatar’s gaze hardened for a second before softening again. No.
Niarok nodded and glanced around the cavern one more time before turning back down the narrow passageway he and Lorcan had come up. He pulled his cloak around him and stepped down into it, glad when he heard footsteps behind him that at least some of the other had decided to follow him.
Okayyyy that was longer than it was originally going to be…

November 27, 2021 at 2:57 pm #144516Niarok is 6’1 (I think…) with shoulder length black hair he usually wears in a half ponytail. He’s very muscular and carries a sword and a bow with him at all times. He’s also a doctor so he’s always got about fifteen hundred different types of herbs on him. He dark blue eyes, and he’s insanely discerning. If someone is feeling something, Niarok will usually pick up on it and respond in kind.
Yila is 5’8 with waist-length black hair with red highlights. She usually keeps it pulled back. She’s stronger than she looks, and is basically a ninja. She carries 7 different throwing knives and a bow. She has icy blue eyes and tends to be cold and hard around pretty much anyone except Niarok and Lorcan. You have to earn her trust in order for her to open up, and that takes quite a bit of work. She tends to be loyal to no one but herself unless you’re one of the few people she trusts.

November 27, 2021 at 3:12 pm #144518There was a short-ish man up there, glancing around with glassy eyes. His eyes caught on the glowing man. “You’re… glowing,” he said incredulously.
@denali-christianson I don’t think I mentioned this before, but Basil’s actually quite tall! He’s seen some stuff canonically at this point, so I can’t say that any of the castle’s recent events have been particularly surprising to him. His remark to Misu was just him being snotty and stating the obvious (although Misu is entirely unaware that he is, in fact, glowing, so maybe it’s not so obvious to him)Yeah, just a head’s up – Basil is a bit of a jerk, but not intentionally (@rose-colored-fancy he probably would have gotten along with Acyn spectacularly lol)
@emily-waldorf Yep! Misu’s hair is about shoulder length*laughs as one fey*
November 27, 2021 at 3:14 pm #144519Okayyy and now I’m going to write Yila…
Oops @calidris I forgot about Leytera: 5’3 (I think…) with black curly hair falling to her mid-back. Light brown eyes. She’s small-boned and looks fragile. She’s from a highly advanced technological society and carries about three small gadgets with her. She’s completely incompetent with any type of weapon except an energy gun which she does not have on her. She’s introverted and very quiet, and she bites her lip when she’s nervous.
Yila
Yila glanced at Niarok. He nodded at her as he and Lorcan disappeared down the tunnel. She wrapped her cloak around her and retrieved her arrows and her target, placing the arrows back in her quiver and her knife back in its sheath.
She collapsed the target and shoved it in her pack before yanking out her sleeping roll.
That nuisance Leytera stood shivering in the corner where she’d been for the past ten minutes or more. Yila rolled her eyes.
“You heard Niarok! Let’s get in a circle to conserve our body heat,” she commanded.
Acyn was already climbing up the wall. And Sahar was going with him.
Yila huffed. No one listened to her. Whatever.
She huddled up against the wall and wrapped herself in the blanket. Leytera still stood on the far side.
“Leytera! Get over here!” Yila snapped.
Leytera jumped, blinked several times, and crept across the floor.
“Do you have anything to keep warm in?” Yila asked.
Leytera shook her head.
Yila sighed and held out one of her arms the way Niarok often did. Leytera crawled in beside her and snuggled close to her. Yila did her very best not to recoil from the unwanted touch. Leytera’s body was warm.
The strange armored man named Klein came stomping into the cavern from the direction of the jungle. He was covered in… snow?
But it didn’t snow in this region. At least, not the region Niarok and Yila had come from.
Okay…
Yila shook her head and focused instead on the firewood Klein brought.
He dropped it in front of Yila and Leytera and struck it with some sort of flaming device. It blazed up. Then he crouched next to Leytera, and the three lone figures waited for Niarok and the rest of the company to come back.

November 27, 2021 at 3:15 pm #144520Oh my word I’m so sorry! I prolly just missed that in your description. I’m sorry! I know how annoying it can be when other people write your characters wrong. I guess he and Niarok can have some interesting butting of heads…
On a side note, my pet frog may or may not be named Basil…

November 27, 2021 at 3:23 pm #144521Yayyy!!! Welcome back to the chaos!!
He dark blue eyes, and he’s insanely discerning. If someone is feeling something, Niarok will usually pick up on it and respond in kind.
Oh, man, I can tell! He got my character exactly right. I wonder how he’s going to respond now people actually aren’t as hostile as he expected…
On a side note, my pet frog may or may not be named Basil…
Aww, I love frogs! Whenever I find one in the garden I always scoop them up to hold them gently. Same with salamanders.
I wear gloves when working outside so this isn’t as slimy as it sounds but it freaks my brother out. Whenever I pick up a frog he’s already halfway across the yard. He never got over that one time I tried to slip a frog down his collar. (I WAS NINE!! I wouldn’t do that now. Probably.)
His remark to Misu was just him being snotty and stating the obvious (although Misu is entirely unaware that he is, in fact, glowing, so maybe it’s not so obvious to him)
I love your characters, they’re such sweet chaos all of them XD

November 27, 2021 at 3:52 pm #144525He’s also a doctor so he’s always got about fifteen hundred different types of herbs on him.
In that case, he’ll get along well with Basil! Niarok and Yila are siblings, correct? They both sound pretty cool!
Misu:
“Who’s there?” Misu called back into the shadows behind them.
“I am,” a young man stepped forward and cleared his throat, his face partially obscured by his long, dark hair. Qatar shot a tired glance over at the stranger.
“And you are?” The question was laced with a biting sarcasm.
“On my way out of here. Does someone know where ‘out’ is?” The question was friendly enough, but Misu could sense an underlying tension. And who can possibly blame him? He smiled apologetically.
“I wish we knew. Trust me, we’ve all tried.” He sighed. “I don’t think there’s an exit.”
“That’s too bad.” The young man raked his fingers through his hair, then ducked suddenly, as if to hide. Misu shot him a concerned glance as he coughed loudly. The man smiled weakly.
“Don’t worry, bad decisions aren’t contagious.” Misu smiled, then caught himself. I don’t think that was supposed to be funny!
“You’re glowing.”
Misu froze. He glanced up to see another man standing in front of him, gazing at him from behind a thick fringe of black curls. Wait where did you come fr- wait you’re talking to me! “Oh no!” I knew something was off! His face flushed with heat as he slipped further into his familiar disguise. How embarrassing! Now they’re all probably terrified of me. He bit his lip, searching the small group nervously. “Is – is that any better?” The young man raised his eyebrows, slowly nodding in approval. He turned his gaze toward the other newcomer, his black eyes narrowing into a frosty glare.
“Are you ill? You’d better not be. You need to cover your coughs, you know. I don’t want to get sick too.” He adjusted his heavy scarf over the lower half of his face, and sighed.
@rose-colored-fancy @denali-christianson*laughs as one fey*
November 27, 2021 at 4:02 pm #144526The sound of metal sliding into leather and footsteps appeared right behind me. I hadn’t heard them coming. I started and spun around, then hated myself for it. Why did I startle so easily, it was ridiculous.
My gaze flicked to the weapon first, then I barely managed to hold back a sigh of relief as I saw he was putting the sword back, not taking it out. Perhaps he didn’t want to attack yet.
“I don’t want to hurt you,” the man called.
I barely suppressed the urge to snort. Many people had told me that and many of them had ended up hurting me. This wasn’t happening again. I wouldn’t let it. I had to do better.
“How did you ever become a Siya, you’re useless.”The man was young, only a few years older than me. Like the others, he had lighter skin, but his hair was dark and his eyes blue. For a single, frightening instant, I though the was a Kezbe, then rationality kicked in and I realized his accent sounded completely wrong for it.
He stayed at a respectful distance, well away from me, his posture carefully neutral and his hands away from his weapons. He was doing everything not to look like a threat, which told me he saw me as one. Good. I wanted to keep it that way as long as possible.
“But this man is right. There’s not an exit, as far as we’ve been able to tell. The temperature is dropping, and we’re all getting ready to head back to a much drier part of the cave where we can keep warm. If you want to join us, you may, but I understand if you’d rather not.”
I raised my eyebrows. So it was getting colder? I had long since learned not to comment on things like that, not to comment on noises or blurry figures or the feeling of someone touching me that wasn’t there. More often than not, it was just me.
“You have a ridiculous imagination.”I watched the man, slowly getting interested in something more than surviving the next five minutes. He was giving me an option. He wasn’t urging me in either direction. How would he react if I agreed? How would he react if I didn’t? Was he trying to lure me into a trap?
No, it really was getting colder and it was wet down here. Before long, it would be too much to endure.
Was there really somewhere to go or were they just trying to trap me somewhere in the open?
I glanced up and caught a faint look at a glimpse of light up there. No, there really was something.
Besides, I used to think I knew when someone was lying. Now I wasn’t sure. So many people had lied to me. I had no idea anymore.
Once again, I finished on the conclusion that there were two ways to die. Either they were going to kill me or I would freeze to death. One would be a lot faster than the other and I wasn’t going to die slowly again. I’d had enough of that.
“If you’re really alright with it,” I asked, cautiously. I pulled my loose coat closer around me. It had been early spring where I came from but this was far colder. At least I wasn’t unprotected. I’d survive. I always had, somehow. Who knew why.
The man nodded, then glanced back at the other man that was kneeling. I followed his gaze.
I hadn’t taken a good look at anyone yet, beyond assessing which one was most dangerous. That had been easy. The tall man with the scarred face. Though, the others weren’t far behind, except the smaller man who was still sitting. He looked weak, perhaps ill.
There was noticable resemblance between him and the kneeling man. Brothers, probably.
I squinted in the faint light, my trust in my perception wavering again. Was the smaller one missing a part of his left leg? It looked like it.
I’d met plenty of people who missed limbs, or fingers, or eyes, or were in some other way disabled. I’d never thought I’d become one of them. Who thought about things like that? I’d always thought I’d just die outright.
There was another skittering sound to our right and I instantly stiffened, considering where I would go if something attacked.
A tall man stood on the ledge above us.
“You’re… glowing,” he said, flatly.
I didn’t quite smile but I came close. Finally someone who recognized the absurdity of the situation. Now I knew I hadn’t been imagining the glow, at least. That was progress.
He came down from the ledge.
The glowing man looked confused, then extremely embarrassed.
“Oh, no!”
The glow faded completely, leaving us in even deeper dimness.
“Is– is that any better?”
This time I did smile. It was so bizarre I couldn’t help it.
“If glowing seems like a good idea to you, go ahead,” I said, barely able to temper the sarcasm in my voice.
The newcomer turned a glare at me and I stiffened, trying to assess whether he was armed.
“Are you ill? You’d better not be. You need to cover your coughs, you know. I don’t want to get sick too.”
I instantly clicked from ‘invisible’ to ‘bravado’. Being apologetic now was going to get me walked over.
“I’m not sick anymore, but that’s not going away soon,” I said, the sarcasm obvious in my voice now. “I’ll try not to inconvenience you in future.”
I glanced back at everyone to make sure someone wasn’t going to attack me as soon as I turned my back and slipped into the shadows, slowly climbing up the incline toward the light, but not directly.
I quietened my steps so I wouldn’t make too much noise and walked slowly, partially so I wouldn’t bring on another coughing fit and partially so I could make sure everyone got inside before me. Just in case.
________
Man, writing him is exhausting. Like, dude, not everyone is going to kill you. It’s okay. Just breathe. These posts are so long because he overthinks everything for four paragraphs XD
Without darkness, there is no light. If there was no nighttime, would the stars be as bright?
November 27, 2021 at 4:48 pm #144532Can I just say that you got Lorcan SO right just there?!🤩 yasssss him and Niarok are such a TEAM! Go us lolll😂
Lorcan
Lorcan was relieved that Qatar and Quin were unharmed. That didn’t take very long to find them. And they came with a batch of newcomers too. He inwardly sighed. It was a never ending cycle so it was.
They followed Niarok back to where they came. He looked back, his gaze moving silently over the newcomers. He hadn’t figured out yet if they were a threat or not.
He gave a sharp nod to Quin who was hobbling along. “You getting on all right lad?”
Quin nodded slowly.
He gave him a light-hearted sideways smirk. “Ye gave us a right scare. Try not to do that again, okay?”
Despite himself he felt a fondness for the boy. He could see a little bit of himself in him. Somehow.
He glanced back at the newcomers. “So lets get the introductions going shall we? What do they call ye?”
@everyone
sorry I can’t remember who the new characters belong to I’m losing track of them tbh cause there’s so many😂🙁
November 27, 2021 at 6:15 pm #144534Oh my word I’m so sorry! I prolly just missed that in your description. I’m sorry! I know how annoying it can be when other people write your characters wrong. I guess he and Niarok can have some interesting butting of heads… On a side note, my pet frog may or may not be named Basil…
@denali-christianson It’s ok! I didn’t do a really good job of describing him to begin with, plus it’s kind of hard to keep track of everyone cause there’s so many characters lol. And I’m also very interested to see his and Niarok’s interactions – Basil and Misu are both from a modern fantasy setting, so he and Niarok are used to very different medical systems…(this is relevant lol)
You have a pet frog?! Named Basil?! That’s so cute!
I love your characters, they’re such sweet chaos all of them XD
@rose-colored-fancy Aww thanks! That’s exactly what I’m going for, so I guess I’m doing something right! What’s your new guys’ name, or is it a secret? I feel bad for him 🙁 (and Basil’s definitely not helping things)
@irishcelticredflowercrown I think there’s two new characters in here! Mine is named Basil, and he has curly black hair and big black eyes. He’s tall and kinda (?) muscular, but that tends to get overlooked because he just comes across as kind of “delicate” (I hope this makes sense). He’s bundled up for winter, and he’s got some sort of bag or backpack with him (*cough* which might come in handy during an adventure – if you can convince him to share)
@rose-colored-fancy has a new character in here with some form of PTSD. He thinks everyone is trying to kill him, and he just got kind of ticked off at Basil right now lol (but for good reason) Rose is probably better at describing him than I am, though*laughs as one fey*
November 27, 2021 at 6:32 pm #144535It’s ok! I didn’t do a really good job of describing him to begin with, plus it’s kind of hard to keep track of everyone cause there’s so many characters lol. And I’m also very interested to see his and Niarok’s interactions – Basil and Misu are both from a modern fantasy setting, so he and Niarok are used to very different medical systems…
Lol I feel that. I still don’t even know how tall my own characters are officially, so that’s great… Niarok and Yila are siblings. Niarok is 20 and Yila is 17. This’ll actually be really interesting! I’m excited. I can imagine them both butting heads on the “correct” way to treat a sickness, but then also be completely nerdy about each others’ methods… idk it’ll be cool!
And yes. I have a frog named Basil. He’s really fat, and really cute, and hates me from the bottom of his heart unless I’m in the act of feeding him! He’s adorable and I love him. (He’s a White’s Tree Frog if you want to look up a pic!)
Can I just say that you got Lorcan SO right just there?! yasssss him and Niarok are such a TEAM! Go us lolll
YES!!!! *does happy dance* I was sitting there imagining the look on Lorcan’s face when Niarok gave up his most effective weapon and I was laughing so hard when I wrote it so I’m really glad I got it right! I LOVE THE CHEMISTRY BETWEEN THESE TWO CHARACTERS IT’S AMAZING!!!!!!
Oh, man, I can tell! He got my character exactly right. I wonder how he’s going to respond now people actually aren’t as hostile as he expected…
I’m honestly so excited to see how he and Niarok end up interacting. Niarok is literally a giant teddy bear underneath all his warrior gruffness, and I’m really interested to see how your character reacts.
Aww, I love frogs! Whenever I find one in the garden I always scoop them up to hold them gently. Same with salamanders.
Same!!!! Although I don’t get to do it very often as I live in the mountains and all we have are various species of vermin that, even though they’re very cute, are also extremely not good to hold… Whenever I go to a more amphibian friendly habitat, though, I’m all over the frogs!!!!

November 27, 2021 at 6:43 pm #144536Niarok
Niarok scrabbled over the last few rock outcroppings in the tunnel. Firelight glowed up ahead, and he smiled when he realized Klein or Yila must have started a blaze.
The cavern was freezing, colder than even Niarok was used to. Even though the temperature routinely dropped where he lived, it never got this cold.
He strode into the cave, glancing back. He smiled when he counted all six of the others following.
He immediately walked over to where Yila, Leytera, and Klein huddled in various blankets next to the fire.
Yila glanced up at him, smiling even as her eyes roved over the three extra people her brother had brought back with him.
She stood slowly, leaving her blanket with Leytera, and walked up to Niarok.
“Who are these people?” she whispered, her eyes cold whenever they lit on the troubled man with the shoulder-length black hair.
“Two of them appeared while we were in there, and the one who’s glowing is… well, I don’t know who he is either.”
Yila shook her head, and Niarok smiled before turning to the large group.
“Well, all I can tell you is we have a fire and we should probably stay close to conserve body heat. Although if you’re not comfortable being in a group, I’m sure we can produce blankets or something,” Niarok gave a brief glance toward the guy who still had his hands in his pockets.
Their eyes met briefly and Niarok got the distinct feeling that the man thought he’d been led into a trap. Niarok tried to communicate that the other man was safe, knowing if he was as troubled as he looked, it would take some time to get that message across.
Then he turned away and joined Yila and Leytera. Yila made a show of making space between her and Leytera for Niarok to sit, and Niarok resisted the urge to roll his eyes. Maybe Leytera wasn’t a warrior, but she wasn’t a danger either.
He produced a blanket from his own bedroll and added it to the huddle, and Yila snuggled up close to him. He allowed a ghost of a smile. His sister was freezing, just too distrusting to let anyone but him know.
At least he was here now.

November 27, 2021 at 7:29 pm #144537Basil:
“I’m not sick anymore, but that’s not going away soon,” the man said sarcastically. “I’ll try not to inconvenience you in future.” Basil looked at him skeptically.
“So you’re not contagious?” He clicked his tongue. “I mean, it’s not just me you’re inconveniencing. When you cough all over the place like that you’re spraying your diseases all over this entire group. Plus, we’re not from your world so basic diseases that you carry could probably kill us.” Basil looked at him coolly. Why do I even need to explain this? They do have diseases in his world, right?
Oh.
“Wait, have they discovered germs yet in your world?” Basil softened his gaze. “I’m sorry. I thought you were being inconsiderate, but maybe you’re just uneducated. You see, there’s these little organisms that – ” Basil stiffened as a firm hand gripped his shoulder. “Who just touched me? Keep your hands to your-”
“I think you’ve made you point well enough. Give the poor guy a break!” Basil whipped around to see a tall man standing next to him, looking at him with smiling eyes. The man laughed softly. “For the record, I’m from the same world as you, and I’m not concerned about whatever germs he might be carrying.” Basil’s eyes flew open.
“What!? How?” The man grinned.
“I’ve seen you around The Oaks. The coffee cake is particularly good, although personally I eat it with tea.” Basil looked at him hesitantly.
“I like their gingerbread. I wish they had it all year.” He paused. “You live in Spire, too?” The man nodded enthusiastically.
“Sure do! You can call me Misu, by the way.” Basil smiled faintly.
“I’m Basil.”
Misu grinned. “Pleasure to meet you, Basil! Let me guess: you got caught by the Shrike too?”
Basil narrowed his eyes. Please don’t remind me. “Yeah.”
“Ah that’s tough.” The man in front with the scarred face suddenly stopped and turned around. A few yards off to the distance was a blazing fire, and two small figures huddled around it. “So lets get the introductions going shall we? What do they call ye?” Basil tensed as the group slowly turned to face him and the other man. His companion was silent, hands still rooted in his pockets, hair still draped over his face. Basil sniffed. So you’re going to make me go first, then? Fine.
“I’m Basil.” Misu smiled back at him.
“And I’m Misu!”
@rose-colored-fancy Basil is so nasty sometimes. I’m so, so sorry, he just kind of got out of control lol. And yes, that “uneducated” remark was somehow (?) supposed to be reassuring. In his mind being uneducated is better than being “gross and inconsiderate” so that actually wasn’t supposed to be mean (although that doesn’t matter because it is in fact a rather mean thing to say to someone)
@denali-christianson real quick, Misu’s finally turned off his glow, so he looks normal now!
@irishcelticredflowercrown here’s Basil’s answer to Lorcan’s question! Also, I figured this is probably a good time for Misu to finally introduce himself to Lorcan lol*laughs as one fey*
