@ethan-leonard I think everyone’s had a good chance to go now, so now might be a good time to start Saevus’ rampage!
Also I was reading through the older posts and I just now saw your question about @rose-colored-fancy and I being friends? Sorry this took so long for me to answer!
We are, and there’s actually a pretty cool story behind it! I’ve always had a really hard time connecting with people in my life, and I prayed that God would give me friends. Well, about a year ago I joined SE, and Rose invited me to this character castle (which was really dying at the time), and then after interacting on here for awhile, we found each other’s art accounts on Instagram and started texting each other through there, and then eventually we were finally able to talk face to face (with our parents’ permission) in video calls! She’s honestly one of my closest friends now, I love her so much and I consider myself so incredibly blessed to have her as a friend!
Honestly though, I’m so thankful for this castle, and the community I share with you guys here! It’s been so fun, and it’s not only helped my sharpen my writing skills, but has also given me this incredible opportunity to connect with other Christian writers in a much more personal way than a more “traditional” forum. Seriously, you guys are so fun and supportive, and I really, really look forward to the interactions we have in here 🙂

August 12, 2022 at 1:44 am #152265Ehud’s story is so sad! 😭 And his reaction to Ku’s regret is so lovable and yet sad.
Nice painting of Basil! It really gets the attitude I sense from your writing about him. I want to finish a painting of Jade so I can share it before she leaves the Castle.
That’s a cool story about you and Rose. I’ve definitely enjoyed getting involved in the SE community because I’ve had similar issues with making friends.

That really sums up my thoughts on this place! I’m glad to have met you all here, and that I squashed all my introvert-who-is-technologically-inept objections and just took the opportunity for community.

Aww thanks! I’m really glad to hear that I was able to accurately convey that – both in my writing and in my art! Idk exactly what I would describe it as, like I can definitely put a finger on it but idk if I can name it?
…soft brat?
Idk, Basil is just…very Basil XD
Also, I didn’t know you’re an artist too! Are you a digital or traditional painter?
I’m looking forward to seeing Jade!

Yeah…I feel like it’s hard because writers tend to fall outside of social norms to some degree? I’ve always had a hard time fitting in, but it especially hurts in Christian settings tbh. It’s just so hard to find other creatives with similar values, and that’s one reason why SE has just been such a huge blessing! I also just love that it’s a genuinely strong and mature Christian community. It’s not just Christian in name only – there’s a whole community of dedicated believers who want to talk about faith and how that plays into our writing, and it’s just so healthy and honestly challenging (in a good way). Idk about you, but SE has really challenged me to dig deep into my values, what I believe, how I uphold my Christian values in my writing, and how to articulate those (both to people here and in my writing!)
Also I just love all of these little niches in the community – each group feels like it has such a distinct culture, and you really get to grow alongside an established group 🙂

August 12, 2022 at 7:59 am #152268I’ve never actually seen it! Is it good?
I, personally, loved the movie. 😀 I actually hated it for a while because it gave me nightmares when I was little XD
Incidentally, I actually introduced Kit because I wanted to explore that kind of dynamic in my own story! And then he demanded a love interest, and then he demanded pink hair, and then he ended up taking over the entire plot and long story short he and Val derailed the whole story XD
If I had a dollar for every time my characters shook up my story, I’d have about four dollars, which is four dollars too many in my opinion XD
August 12, 2022 at 12:49 pm #152271Ah ok, that makes sense
Very well…*laughs wickedly*
Saevus was exploding with fury. Never had ANYONE shamed him in such a way as this. Stoking the flames that enveloped him to an intense blaze, he roared and released a shock wave that blasted everyone back a even rendered the table into pieces. Drawing his sword, Saevus began chanting in an eerie language. As the other slowly got up and stared at Saevus, He only increased the speed of his chanting. After a few minutes, his spell finally took affect. And within seconds, the others realized what Saevus was up to.
Saevus was trying to force the Lord Castle to reveal himself in person.
And at first, it didn’t seem to work. Lord Castle made no signs of showing up, and Saevus just seemed to be making a fool of himself. But soon, the very walls of the castle began to shake. Soon the whole castle was shaking, and no one was able to keep to their feet…except Saevus. And pretty soon, the air in front of Savus began to shimmer. Soon the very air seemed to be vibrating, and then a form began to appear. Soon a very regal-looking Castle lord stood before Saevus. Only after he had fully appeared due Saevus stop chanting, with a deathly silence falling on the room.
“Well, Saevus,” Lord Castle boomed, “Thou hast called me, and I hast come. What dost thou wantest with me?”
”Your head!” Saevus roared. “You had no right to this to me!”
”Then you shall find yourself even more humbled,” Lord Castle replied. “Than yiu just were. I am Lord Castle, and no upstart from Malterra will stop me.”
”We’ll see about that!” Saevus roared, drawing his sword. He then launched a vicious attack on him.
Drawing his own sword, Lord Castle blocked Saevus’ attack and soon countered with his own. Saevus crosscut, parried, and then brought a vertical slice down from above. Blocking it, Lord Castle then stabbed at Saevus. Saevus dodges it and counters with his own attack.
This coninued for a few minutes, when suddenly-
tehe cliff hanger. I’ll let someone else take it from there.
(wonders if making the castle show itself in human form was a good idea)
August 12, 2022 at 1:45 pm #152273@ethan-leonard oooh do you want the castle to give them an ultimatum? Like, if they beat him they get a reward, but if they lose…then they have to undergo another heart wrenching challenge!
So then, other characters might join in against the castle even though they’re not terribly fond of Saevus XD
*laughs as one fey*
August 12, 2022 at 3:10 pm #152274“Wait you can do that!?!?” Ehud gasped staring at the summoned Lord Castle. He grabbed a chair, ready to hurl it. “I call dibs!!!”
To be a light to the world you must shine in the darkness.
August 12, 2022 at 4:27 pm #152275Like, if they beat him they get a reward, but if they lose…then they have to undergo another heart wrenching challenge!
That would be cruel if they lose… I like it😂
“Wait you can do that!?!?” Ehud gasped staring at the summoned Lord Castle. He grabbed a chair, ready to hurl it. “I call dibs!!!”
😂😂
A long-hidden tale may hold the answers-and the healing-they so desperately seek.
~Set the Stars AlightAugust 12, 2022 at 4:34 pm #152276@lady-grace sooo…if they lose, does EVERYONE have to partake in the challenge, or just the people who attacked him?
Also we have to think of a suitable punishment XD

Hm, I think those who partake in the challenge. No reason to punish those who don’t. And if they didn’t help but the others win, they just don’t get a reward.
Also, I believe a little while back someone mentioned something about enemies having to help each other? Could this be that?Ah, yes… what shall the punishment be… Could those posters play a part?
(We immediately discuss the punishment, not reward😂. Our poor characters😂)A long-hidden tale may hold the answers-and the healing-they so desperately seek.
~Set the Stars AlightAugust 12, 2022 at 9:24 pm #152280@lady-grace see, I was thinking it might be the only way to get some of our…more rational and level headed characters involved XD
Ooh that could be a cool punishment…
But as far as the reward goes…maybe the castle grants them a small wish? Like, it gives them something small they really really want?
Or it could give them each a present XD
It would have to be small though because I feel like Saevus’ wish would be something like…conquer all of Malterra XD
Also a little bit unrelated, but before I pull out Kit and Val (a long, long ways in the future tbh) I’m going to see if I can try to make them kiss in here…
*laughs as one fey*
August 13, 2022 at 12:28 am #152284I was thinking it might be the only way to get some of our…more rational and level headed characters involved XD
Ah, ok. Yeah, I could totally see Yarrow settling down in a chair to watch the show😂
But as far as the reward goes…maybe the castle grants them a small wish? Like, it gives them something small they really really want?
Honestly, I think at this point most would just want to go home😂.
It would have to be small though because I feel like Saevus’ wish would be something like…conquer all of Malterra XD
Haha, yeah… so maybe the gift idea?😂 I have no clue what Yarrow would want… Help with a prank?
(Me: Finn, I’m blaming you for teaching him pranks.
Finn: that’s hardly fair. I only taught him the definition.
Me: Mhmm. Then stop telling him to pretend to fall out of trees. Now get back in the book!)
I’m curious… was it just me or did anyone else have a conversation with their characters about joining SE?
A long-hidden tale may hold the answers-and the healing-they so desperately seek.
~Set the Stars AlightAugust 13, 2022 at 1:17 am #152285Great idea! Lol I have a feeling Saevus will get to show his full potential here, hehe…
Yeah, the summoning thing…random, spur of the moment idea that worked perfectly.
I think a reward if you win, and a punishment if you lose, is a great idea! What shall the reward be… *tries to think of something Saevus will like*
August 13, 2022 at 1:22 am #152286You’re welcome!
…soft brat?
Idk, Basil is just…very Basil XD
😂 that’s actually a really good description XD
Also, I didn’t know you’re an artist too! Are you a digital or traditional painter?
I’m a traditional painter. Computers and I don’t get along very well (I even prefer to write with pen and paper, especially first drafts).
Yes. And I’m also glad that this is a genuine Christian community. When I was first looking into SE, I was super cautious because I was concerned that it might have been a Christian-in-name-only thing. Thankfully, it proved to be otherwise 🙂. It really is a blessing that I found it. I had been going to a secular website for information about writing, but it just didn’t have either the information I needed, or the purpose I knew writing should have, or the depth of community, or, in short the “healthy and honestly challenging” environment SE has.
“Wait you can do that!?!?” Ehud gasped staring at the summoned Lord Castle. He grabbed a chair, ready to hurl it. “I call dibs!!!”
That’s hilarious 🤣

Honestly that’s entirely fair XDHmmm
What if the castle offered to let them experience the fulfillment of their greatest longing as a reward? That could be kind of sad, but also hopeful for the characters who are working for a goal.
Also, some characters might not even be aware of what their greatest longing is…

You know, I have actually not had conversations with any of my characters…tbh I’m not exactly sure how that would turn out XDI guess out of all of my characters, Kit’s been the most…vocal about who he is, what his motives are, and what exactly he wants, which is honestly a writer’s dream…except his ideas for his character arc SEVERELY clashed with mine. At this point I’ve given up fighting him, and I guess he’s a more… i n t e r e s t i n g character for it. He’s very spoiled, but I just can’t bring myself to shove him into the Character Timeout Bin (he would cry if I even threatened it), so we’ve come to an agreement that he can wreak as much havoc in my story as he wants as long as he reaps the consequences of his actions XD
Also Sasha’s in the Character Timeout Bin, and if I even crack it open just a teeny tiny bit he’ll escape back into Spire and I absolutely CANNOT have that happen. And that’s also the exact reason why I could never even dream of tossing in Kit too – Sasha would insult his clothes and call him ugly until he cried
But then, other characters just refuse to talk to me. Like, Val is guarding her heart incredibly well, which is problematic because, well…I’M HER WRITER AND I NEED TO KNOW HER MOTIVES OK?
And Basil is a brat and refuses to communicate beyond glaring at me from under a table, but that’s to be expected. He’s being kind of uncooperative, but I might be able to bribe him with food…
Which of your characters are the easiest to talk to?
