I’ve done mine🙂
Is Lorcan still in the castle? I forget who is writer is…
A long-hidden tale may hold the answers-and the healing-they so desperately seek.
~Set the Stars AlightAugust 10, 2022 at 1:27 pm #152223@everyone
I’m going to pull Enydd out. She’s grown a lot here, and I don’t think I’ll uncover more about here. (Not to mention that she’d probably have a nervous breakdown at the beginning of the fight. XD)
I feel for this new character of yours. XD
Your Character: Where exactly am-
Castle: Deepest regret! Go!
August 10, 2022 at 9:23 pm #152228I have a question for those pulling characters out of the castle.
Do you mind if I have Saevus kill them on his rampage he’s about to go on?
Also, I’m gonna drop in Saevus’s top general, General Durun Sollers, right after the rampage of Saevus.
August 10, 2022 at 10:58 pm #152235Reintroducing an old character!
Content warnings: there’s some lab scenes – nothing super graphic, but my poor boi is basically a living experiment so take that as you will 🙁
Kit:
“Subject 1711 – divulge your deepest regrets.”
“No.”
I turn to my right to see a tall figure fiddling with his restraints. Pitch black curls bounce around his pale skin as he glances up at me, scanning me with narrowed eyes.
Oh no.
“Basil?”
My hurt turns to lead in my chest as the screen flickers to life, illuminating his delicate features. Basil wrinkles his nose. “Oh. You’re here too.” I wrinkle my nose right back at him. “Well someone sure sounds enthused.”

Panic crawls up my chest as the numbers flash across the screen. I yank against my restraints and hurl a curse at the screen. “You leave him alone, ok? You can do whatever you want to me – I’ll even share my second worst regret, if you’ll just leave him alone!”
Basil cocks his head. “Third. You already shared your first two.” A new wave of panic seeps into my veins. Those were secrets I never, ever wanted him to know. It’s bad enough sharing with complete strangers, but at the end of the day, we’re all going to part ways and take each others secrets along with us. I live with Basil, though, and I really do love him dearly – just as much as any of my other brothers. It’d hurt so bad if Basil started distancing himself from me too.
Nothing’s changed in his inky gaze, though. He looks just as miffed as always, but hardly uncomfortable. “You’re ignoring me.”
“Oh, shut up.” I mutter. “Look, do you want me to do you a favor or not?” I glance back over at the screen. “Third then. There’s plenty more where those two came from, you know.”
Basil glances back and forth between me and the screen, lips splitting in a triumphant grin. “It’s ok. I don’t have one anyways.”

Basil squints, covering his eyes as the numbers flash across the screen. “It’s too bright,” he murmurs.

Basil jumps up from his seat. I crane my head as he walks off, helplessly watching as he melts into the dim shadows beyond the circle.

…
The screen flashes red, and dims.
Basil walks through a stark white hall, flanked on both sides by armed guards. His throat is locked behind a thick black band – the shock collar he was wearing when Milo and I first found him. His dark curls bounce as he marches down the hall, eyes flickering back and forth between his guards and the smartly dressed officer in front of him. He suddenly collapses to the ground, arms splayed out behind him. The guards stop short, one gently nudging him in the ribs with his heavy boot. The officer whips around.
“Get up!”
Silence.
A smile tugs at my lips as the officer grabs him by the belt and drags him a couple of feet, cussing under his breath the entire time. We all know by now this was a favorite ploy of his – making people drag him places he didn’t want to go. Was – He stopped soon after we got him, maybe because Eli never forced him to go places he didn’t want, or maybe just because for once he felt safe and secure, and free to give up control.
I’ll have to ask him about that one sometime.
“I said GET UP.”
Silence.
The officer pulls a little remote from his pocket. Basil’s collar flashes lightening blue as a strangled squeal rips from his throat. Anger pulses in my temples as he flinches back and writhes on the pristine white tiles, hands desperately clawing at the collar.
“It’s ok Kit. The collar can’t hurt me anymore. I beat it a long time ago,” Basil murmurs darkly.
“You’re starting to sound like Eli, you know.”
“At least I’m not starting to sound like you,” he mutters. I roll my eyes.
“Yeah whatever.”
“The shock wasn’t as bad when I held it with my hands, but he never figured it out.” There’s a distinct note of triumph in his voice, but I can’t hear the slightest hint of pain. I’m honestly pretty surprised – he’s the one reliving it, after all.
“You actually thought of that?”
“No. Dr. Corvo did.”
“Dr. who now?”
Scene after scene of Basil plays out on the screen – Basil stashing crackers in his pockets at a meal and getting in trouble, Basil launching himself onto some ridiculously high surface and getting stuck, Basil playing with ants in a wall and getting bitten…
A lot of these are looking pretty…mundane, if I’m going to be honest.
Is the castle just playing all of his regrets until it finds a suitably regrettable one?
Scratch that – does Basil even regret any of these? He’s awfully calm right now for a guy witnessing – no, reliving his supposed greatest regret. I groan. This could take forever.
I crane my neck, searching the inky shadows for a glimpse of his paper white face.
“You know Basil, I’m getting the impression that you couldn’t really care less whether or not we actually see your greatest regret.”
“Nope.”
“Well hurry up and tell, because this is getting really old.”
“I already told you I don’t have one,” he snaps.
I rub my temples. “This is so blazing boring,” I groan.
The screen fades.
Basil’s in a stark white room, propped up on a gurney. The pastel green curtains part as a doctor walks in. Basil yelps in pain as he rips off the bandage on his arm and roughly adjusts the IV drip, squeezing the bruised flesh as he smears on a new one. As soon as the man turns his back, Basil hurls his pillow to the floor and collapses against the bare gurney. “My pillow!” he wails pitifully. His lips quirk in a malicious smile as the doctor bends over and picks it up, firmly patting it in place behind his head. The curtains part again as another man walks in,
“Dr. Corvo!” Basil’s face lights up with excitement as soon as he sees the man, but a shiver runs down my own spine.
That Dr. Corvo?
Dr. Vitus Corvo – a notorious criminal of the Great War, and currently the most wanted man in the Western world. They say Kardova got their hands on his colleagues, but Corvo was always said to have escaped the ruinous end of the war. He’s a scientist of sorts – formerly esteemed, but highly unethical in his approach. But then again, “ethical” and “war criminal” are kind of mutually exclusive.
I shudder, remembering the night Basil unintentionally burglarized our apartment, cold and hungry and supremely confused. He couldn’t have walked too far in one night…meaning that wherever he came from is likely somewhere near our district, which also means that Dr. Corvo is likely somewhere near our district…
I’m not too keen on that one.
Basil leans back as Dr. Corvo sits by the side of gurney, reaching out to gently ruffle his curls. He hands him a spoon and a waxy cardboard container.
“Ice cream?” Basil gasps and shreds the cover, plunging his spoon into the cup. He shaves off a small bite, licking the spoon as the doctors push back his blankets and examine his leg.
I smile. Basil is a greedy eater, but he’s always made sure to savor every last bite of the food he really, really enjoys. Like ice cream, and chocolate, and especially chocolate ice cream, which seems to be what he’s eating.
“I guess I kind of regret leaving Dr. Corvo.” I flinch, turning around to see Basil standing over me.
“You’re kidding, right? He’s evil, you know. You should be glad you left him – he might’ve experimented on you or something if you’d stayed any longer.”
“He wasn’t evil to me, Kit. And it wasn’t an experiment because he knew what he was doing.”
“Uhhhuh.”
Wait…
I stare back at Basil, studying his features in the white glow of the screen. Did Dr. Corvo experiment on Basil too? Basil’s eyes widen as he catches my gaze, features crumpling in a scathing glare. I shrug. “Dr. Corvo’s a bad man, Basil.”
“You’re a bad man,” he hisses back. I groan as Val represses a snicker beside me. “How?!!” Basil’s lip curls.
“I’ll think of something,” he whispers menacingly.
That’s a bit concerning. To be honest, Basil has a whole arsenal of retorts for that one, and I don’t really want Val hearing any of them.
A new scene flashes across the scene: Basil perched high on a cabinet, staring down with feral eyes. Milo scurries by, baseball bat locked between trembling hands, blanket trailing from his shoulders. My face flames as I pop into view – knife in my left hand, a can of beans in my right (the only two weapons in my arsenal), snugly wrapped in an elegant velvet dressing robe.
And yeah…I’m not really wearing much else besides that.
I bury my face in my hands.
I was so sure I was going to be home alone – no one ever invited me to parties anymore, and instead of sitting around crying because everyone was going except for me, I’d decided to throw myself one instead. I’d prepared a nice dinner and a bottle of champagne, and I’d even bought new bath salts specifically for the occasion. It was going so well, but then Milo suddenly came home early with food poisoning and forgot to lock the door, and then Basil just walked right in and ate the leftovers of my dinner right off of the stove…
So there I was, dripping wet hair, lounge robe and all, with a severely nauseous Milo and a seemingly super human burglar on my hands.
How the blazes am I ever going to explain this one to Val?
“Look Basil, this isn’t just about you anymore,” I hiss. “Literally everyone here can see me running around in my bathrobe, ok? Do you really not see the issue here?” Basil’s curls flop against his face as he shakes his head. “It’s embarrassing, Basil.”
“I don’t see anything embarrassing about it, ” he whispers back.
“You absolute pest.” I rub my temple as the me on the screen hurls a can of beans at Basil’s head. He yelps, cowering against the wall as his hand flies to the bruise. I’m sure it looks absolutely horrible, but in my defense Basil was an intruder after all.
“TO BE CLEAR,” I yell to no one in particular, a final plea of desperation. “Basil was an intruder in my own home at the time, and I did what I must to protect myself and my younger brother.” I flush as someone snickers. Horrible explanation, but I guess I’d rather have people see me as completely stupid than completely cruel and heartless.
On the screen, Basil’s eyes blaze as he reaches into the cabinet and hurls a china teacup right at me. Milo wails as the teacup splinters on the floor. “Eli’s china!”
Basil tenses beside me. “I actually do regret that one!” His voice is taut, eyes wide with distress.
“What, throwing Eli’s china at me? You should regret that one. You could’ve given me a concussion or something there.” Basil’s face crumples. “Actually it’s because I made Eli cry.” I groan.
“Fair enough, but he was crying of stress, not because you broke his teacup.” A smile tugs at my lips. I can see Milo so clearly now, pale blue eyes wild with despair, his white-blond bangs flopping as he shakes my shoulders. “Stop it, Kit! Please stop it! You’re gonna give Eli another nervous breakdown!”
Basil’s shoulders droop in relief. He furrows his brow, scrunching up his face like he always does when he’s thinking. “You know, Kit, I actually think it’s because I didn’t actually aim it at you. I aimed just beside you because I didn’t want to hurt you…” His glances up, inky eyes widening with sudden realization. “I could’ve hit you with that thing, but I really tried not to and I regret it.” Basil’s shoulders droop as he fidgets uncomfortably. “It was the one chance I’ve ever had to fight back,” he mumbles. “You would’ve deserved it too.” The screen flashes green and flickers out.
I whistle. “Well, well, well. Only took you ten minutes to spit it out.” I shrug. “I guess that’s understandable. I would’ve hurled that thing straight at my face if I were you. Still…” I sigh and slump back in my seat. “What’s up with me and being everyone’s worst regret,” I mutter.
“It’s because you’re annoying,” Basil says matter of factly.
I snort. “Says you.”
“He’s got a good point, Kit,” Val murmurs thoughtfully. I turn around and flash her a dazzling grin.
“Well, I suppose that’s only fair.”
Basil’s lip curls. “I said it before she did and you tried to argue with me.”
“I’m only accepting constructive criticism from Val, ok?” Basil squints down at me. “But I’m your friend.” I shrug and roll my eyes.
“And she’s my girl-UMM extra special friend?” A fresh wave of panic splits my chest as I wildly glance over at Val.
I’m so so sorry Val it was an accident and it just slipped out and I didn’t actually mean it but-
Val’s lips twist in a thin, wavering line, like they always do when she’s trying really, really hard not to smile.
She’s…not actually mad at me?
I wink back at her.
This is fun!
“Anyways you’re not my friend Basil – you’re definitely more like a brother. And I never listen to my brothers, so your opinion doesn’t matter to me.”
“I know that. Eli says so.”
I snicker. “Yeah, and I don’t care because he’s my brother and I don’t listen to him. You see, Val is the kind of friend I’d buy flowers and chocolate for. If I bought you flowers and chocolate you’d probably eat them or something.”
“You’re supposed to eat chocolate, Kit.”
“E x a c t l y. Anyways, I couldn’t buy you chocolate and flowers anyways because that’s the kind of thing I’d only do for my girlfriend.”
Basil shoots me a skeptical glare. “You have a girlfriend?”
“Well not yet, but I will someday. Hopefully someday soon-”
“But you just told me you’d buy flowers and chocolate for V-”
“OH SHUT UP!” I wince. That’s another close call. “ALRIGHT alright I get it, it’s a bad, irrelevant analogy, ok? I really just wanted to see if you’d agree to the ‘eating flowers’ part – which you didn’t and that’s really a good sign.” Basil’s face twitches in a cool glare.
“No one’s stupid enough to eat flowers, Kit.”
“Well I wouldn’t put it past you, but I guess you just proved me wrong.”
I was not expecting this much secondhand embarrassment from these two, but oh well XD

August 10, 2022 at 11:44 pm #152237I don’t have much say here since I’m not pulling a character right now, but my opinion is no. Even the castle isn’t allowed to kill people 🤷♀️
That was both sad and funny. Good job👏
A long-hidden tale may hold the answers-and the healing-they so desperately seek.
~Set the Stars AlightAugust 11, 2022 at 3:54 am #152239Alright, here’s Basil’s formal re-introduction to the castle! For those of you who knew him before, he’s changed a bit and really developed (but don’t worry he’s still a socially awkward brat XD)
Basil:
– Tall, (6’3″), super pale white skin, thick black curls. He’s got a very uncanny, almost disproportionate frame – you’d notice it and feel like something’s off, but you might not be able to put a finger on it. He has the number 1711 tattooed on the left side of his neck/throat and on the inside of his right wrist. Right now he’s around 18.
– Unbeknownst to Kit and his brothers, Basil is a prototype super-soldier who was raised in a lab. So, Dr. Corvo had a tremendous influence on his engineering, and views Basil as “his” creation. Over time, though, he started getting attached to him as if he were his own son. While the dynamic was certainly unhealthy, Dr. Corvo did advocate for Basil and tried his best to make him comfortable. While the labs were inherently unethical, there was no deliberate malice or intentional cruelty towards Basil and the other subjects. However, there was some serious embezzlement going on in the higher levels of the program, and a lot of money that was allotted to Corvo and his staff never saw their labs. Long story short, Basil ended up slightly less functional than the military expected, failed a major inspection (partially his own fault tbh), and was essentially abandoned by the labs in favor of a newer project (Dr. Corvo turned him loose on the streets in an attempt to save him, and he wandered off to the Goldenseal brothers cloistered apartment soon after.)
Interestingly enough, Dr. Corvo is a prisoner himself. I based him and his story after the Nazi scientists and engineers who were snatched up by the US and the Soviet Union after WW2 and forced to work for either side. So, while Corvo is obviously a horrible person, he’s a rather sympathetic antagonist imo, especially in light of his dynamic with Basil.
So that’s the dark side of his backstory. He’s since been adopted by the Goldenseal brothers, though, and now has a healthy and loving family 🙂
So, one other thing – Basil is autistic, but learned to mask in a highly dysfunctional environment. Dr. Corvo was one of the few doctors who recognized this diagnosis and tried to accommodate him (the others hoped that if it was ignored in the labs, it might be ignored during the inspection too.) So Basil sometimes behaves EXTREMELY oddly. One of his adopted brothers, Julian, is also autistic, and he’s been helping him learn to communicate his wants and needs (which were almost always ignored in the labs)
As far as personality goes, Basil is extremely blunt and rather rude at times. He’s socially awkward at times and can come across as whiny – in the labs, he quickly learned that major sources of discomfort would never change, but if he raised a big enough fuss he could change the smaller issues. He’s a brat, to be sure, but he’s also incredibly gentle. Despite his upbringing and incredible strength/fighting skills, he’s quite peaceful and prefers to avoid major disputes.
And of course, he’s fiercely devoted to his new brothers 🙂

*laughs as one fey*
August 11, 2022 at 7:52 am #152242I’m going to have to side with what @lady-grace said. Enydd would hate me forever if I let her die in here. XD
ENYDD: You were actually considering it! And after I’ve been so cooperative too!
ME: Irrelevant.
ENYDD: Irrelevant?! I swear that I-
ME: And into the book you go!
That post was hilarious! (also rather sad with Basil’s backstory 🙁
August 11, 2022 at 12:10 pm #152243Ok! Deepest regret…
*Me: sorry Ehud*
*Me; EHUD WON’T TALK TO ME HE WON’T STOP SOBBING I’M SORRY MY BABYYYY 😭😭😭😭😭*
Content warning: Toxic family, violence, cussing (*** out but…) oh and mention of drugs
Ehud was in shock, or he would’ve been screaming at Lord Castle. But he was completely in shock. Ku…
And then one after another over and over and over. He was already sobbing before the Castle turned to him. He was mad, he was completely helpless to comfort anybody and he was trapped here. He couldn’t help anybody he couldn’t help anybody why couldn’t he help anybody!?!?!
“Ehud Marrion Hubert, divulge your deepest regret.”
“Gwaahhhh c’mon, I changed my last name!!” And pretended his middle name didn’t exist, it was embarrassing. “Can’t you just call me Ehud Gale?”
(*Me, who’s spent like 3 years writing this character wondering what his full name actually was and if he had one: 0.0…I can see why you never told me😆*)
The restraints clicked open and Ehud scrambled out, tripping on himself in the process. The first thing he did was careened into closest person – happened to be Kit – and hugged him.

“I’m sorry I’m so sorry guys…” He stammered, hugging EVERYBODY and apologizing. It wasn’t fair!!! It wasn’t fair that they had to endure that, that everybody had to know about it now without their permission or anything it was so wrong.

He skidded to Ku, cradled in Abirami’s arms. Ehud opened his mouth to say something, but ended up tearing up more, fidgeting with his hands nervously. He tried to say something again, and ran a hand through his hair.
“I’m sorry,” he whispered “I’m so so sorry…”
He shrank a couple inches, not sure what to say, and then knelt beside Ku. Normally he really was just all over his friends he never thought about hugging and holding hands but…it suddenly occurred him that it might…he might…that might remind her…
She stiffened when he’d hugged her before had he triggered her? How many times had he casually hugged somebody and-?

“Um…can I…can I touch you hand?” He blinked, staring completely uncertainly at her. It didn’t change anything between them she was his friend that’s all that mattered, but he didn’t know how to comfort her and that scared him. He felt so useless and worthless not being able to help.
He waited until she nodded a little and very very gently touched her fingers.
“You’re not de…dirtied or…or defiled or anything by him! He can’t make you any less pure…he’s the defiled, dirty coward.”

“You’re a wonderful, perfectful, really cool person Ku!” Ehud blurted, squeezing her hand a little and sobbing even harder.
Then the stage lit up.
“Huh…OH!!” Ehud yelped and glanced up. “Uh…” He started counting on his fingers and scratching his head.
“When I accidentally blew up the chemistry class…? Stole the science teacher’s pencil?”
It opened up to a dingy apartment stacked with piles of random odds and ins, “toys” which were blocks of wood and shards of glass, all painted pink with bits of blue here and there.
Ehud froze and bit his sleeve.
“Okok!!! I regret stealing!!” It didn’t stop. “A lot? I regret stealing a lot!?! It’s a medical condition I’m trying!!!” He squeaked.
In the middle of the room a blond, bright-eyed little boy scribbled an angry face on a discarded doorknob with a pink marker. Another little boy – his older brother, picked out loosely gun-shaped piece of railing and grinned mischievously.
‘Don’t you dare shoot me unarmed! You’ll make Mr Knobby mad!’ He squealed, toppling on his brother with the angry doorknob, play whacking him.
‘Bang! I shot you, Ehud! You have to die now!!’
‘No! You shot a- a piece of- a robot of me!’
‘But I shot you with a bazooka the whole room exploded! Die!!’
Ehud mechanically smacked his brother in the chest with the doorknob. ‘Stab! I killed you first!!’
The door slammed open and both the children froze. Ehud saw Dad’s threadbare shoes first, half patched and mismatched. He smelled worst than horrible and the boy didn’t even dare look at his face before Enoch yanked him back, dragging him through a shard of glass in the process.
‘Don’t worry, Mom likes you more so she’ll get custody if it gets to a divorce.’
‘They won’t do that will they?
‘Enoch…?’
Dad bought him a toy compass at the fair, when he promised to stay straight and narrow. Well…he said he bought it, Ehud didn’t know maybe he was just spending money so nobody else could get it.
Ehud never meant to steal anything, he just…clung to everything. If nobody stopped him they didn’t really want it right? He did it in plain sight. He was just nervous and it was all in plain sight, it felt exciting, exhilarating to get away with it. He never got away with anything, or at least, it never really made sense what he did or didn’t get punished for it all depended on everyone’s mood at the moment. One minute they were a big happy family one minute he was dead if he sneezed too loud.
“I regret stealing, I regret being a difficult kid!!” Ehud cried “Stop stop please stop!”
There was shouting on the other side of the door and Ehud didn’t dare walk past to his bedroom. So he just stood there, clutching a patched teddybear in his hands.
‘I can’t believe you! You don’t care about me-!’
‘Honey, honey-‘
‘Don’t you dare ‘honey’ me, you don’t care about anything but you and your drug money-!’
‘That’s not true I lo-‘
‘I’m done! I can’t imagine even you sinking that low.’ The door flung open and Ehud yelped and tried to duck into a corner but they both saw him.
“I didn’t mean to steal anything I just wanted something I could hold on to, I’m sorry I’m sorry I’m sorry!” Ehud squeezed his head between his knuckles and rocked back and forth, sobbing.
‘How long have you been listening in, you little brat!?’ Dad snapped, looming over him like a terrifying monster. He looked so scary and he’d hit things when he was high, Ehud thought he was going to be murdered.
‘Don’t you yell at my son!’ She said, patting his head. He knew she wouldn’t have defended him if they hadn’t been arguing but he clung to that one sign of affection like it was all the world. She ruffled his hair a little, wiping a tear off his cheek with her thumb.
‘At least he loves me.’ She spat venomously. A look like hatred came across Dad’s face, staring down at him.
Time past and sometimes Dad was more and more unpredictable. Sometimes his best friend and sometimes couldn’t stand his existence. Ehud just wanted to hang onto any sort of love, cling to it like he could somehow keep it, if he tried hard enough they’d love him? Things would be ok again?
‘Where’s Mom?’ Everything was quiet at the breakfast table after that. Dad said she’d probably be back in a couple days. He didn’t say anything about why she left.
Unwanted Child.
The worst thing he felt was…relief. No more arguments, no more shouting through the closed door. No more noise. Nobody talked about it, like ignoring it made it go away.
The first few days he thought she just needed space, she’d come back. Of course she’d come back, she never even said goodbye to him. He waiting at the front door every night so he’d be the first one to see her come back.
Unwanted Child.
He clung to every item she’d had that she left behind.
After a week or two, Dad stopped any bravado about now they could do whatever they wanted with the dishes and chores and party and stay up late. After that he’d be gone late nights. His brother always locked the doors when he left.
“I regret not being a better person, I regret being the reason everybody left me.” Ehud whimpered, begging it to stop, burying his face in his jacket.
The was a banging on the door and Dad was screaming to be left in, amiably at first, barely coherent.
His brother wouldn’t let him open the door.
Dad didn’t stop screaming, pretty soon he started cursing. Threatening to kill them, to burn the house down, to cut their fingers off. Enoch told him to plug his ears and start singing, but Ehud didn’t really, he tried to but instead he just curled in a corner squeezing his teddybear.
‘It’s that little b****’s son isn’t it!?! It’s all your fault you thieving little brat you have to take everything don’t you!?!’
‘Come on, Ehud, grab everything you can carry, ok?’ Enoch tugged him up by the shoulders and squeezed.
‘Where we going? We’re not going out there are we!?’ You’re not kicking me out, are you? He didn’t say that outloud, he just gripped his teddybear tighter.
‘I donno and we’re taking the Secret Passage, we’ll be ok he doesn’t have the keys he’ll just keep screaming at the door.’
‘What if he kills us?’ Ehud asked, wide-eyed. His brother looked him in the eye with deadening seriousness.
‘I’ll kill him first.’ He said, sounding completely like an adult.
‘Enoch?’ Ehud fumbled with his teddybear, trailing behind his brother and touting a pile of toys, canned foods, cloths and knickknacks all wrapped in blankets like a knapsack.
‘Yeah?’
‘Why’d Mom leave?’ He fiddled with a torn patch in the stuffy, popping a ring in and out of the hole.
‘Dad sold Mom’s wedding ring for drugs. I wish she’d taken us with her.’
Ehud froze, holding the little diamond ring between his fingers.
To be a light to the world you must shine in the darkness.
August 11, 2022 at 12:26 pm #152244Oh no…poor Ehud! Has he told anyone that he took the ring? Or is he keeping it to himself?
August 11, 2022 at 2:03 pm #152245I…don’t actually know. He probably told them/got caught and admitted to it at some point because his brother and his best friend are still trying to get him the help he needs for that. But did he actually tell anybody about the ring
*turns over to Ehud: Yo! Did you ever tell anybody about the ring
Ehud: sobs louder.
Me: It’s ok baby it’s ok don’t cry I’ll get you a buncha pink cupcakes and stuffed animals and explosives and pencils…*
Idk…probably??
To be a light to the world you must shine in the darkness.
August 11, 2022 at 2:55 pm #152246@inkhorn yeah, Basil’s interesting to me because his concept is dark and kind of disturbing, but he isn’t self aware enough to realize it XD He certainly lacks awareness, but even if someone were to point it out to him he couldn’t care less. I think that’s one reason why his interactions are so funny to me – he doesn’t know he’s rude/socially awkward, but he certainly doesn’t care either.
Btw, I wanted to tell you that Conroy’s regret just…hurt me so deeply :'( I feel so sorry for him! I’m curious, how did he get sucked into espionage in the first place?

August 11, 2022 at 3:05 pm #152247Here’s a painting of Basil!

He has a soft red turtleneck Eli knitted for him – it’s his favorite sweater in all the world and he wears it all the time. He’s probably wearing it in the castle, since I’m guessing he just got sucked in from home XD

Poor kid.

Interesting…for some reason that reminded of Chief Bogo from Zootopia…*tries inserting Bogo’s “Just don’t care” GIF and fails*

It hurt to write it too. 🙁 I actually had no idea that that had happened to him until I started writing.

Well, he-
CONROY: *pops in* The HS was immediately recognized the genius in me and, having a bunch of simpletons on his team, had to hire me.
ME: *sigh* Get back in the book.
Anyway, Conroy was selected along with several other kids to serve as a spy within an isolated city. (His family was in jail for treason, so they didn’t exactly get the chance to protest this) His job is to report any suspicious activity among the residents in that city.
He was chosen because he: 1) did not have any ties to the rest of the world 2) was impressionable 3) was inquisitive/observative 4) was small and 5) learned quickly.

I’ve never actually seen it! Is it good?
Basil was HEAVILY inspired by one of my favorite characters – he’s set up to be this incredible, intimidating athlete, but then the main characters meet him and he’s just a weird, blunt boi
But I loved him because his school is wildly supportive of him and he was never made fun of for it, and he ended up in a hilarious friendship with one of the most popular and socially savvy characters in the whole series. Of course, his main role in that dynamic was to mercilessly roast him, and it was super satisfying because the guy had it coming ever since he was first introduced XD
Incidentally, I actually introduced Kit because I wanted to explore that kind of dynamic in my own story! And then he demanded a love interest, and then he demanded pink hair, and then he ended up taking over the entire plot and long story short he and Val derailed the whole story XD
