      @this-is-not-an-alien Do Rosario and Ehud have last names?  Because I’ve found that if the first names don’t fit nicely for a ship name, the last names sometimes work pretty well!

        So personally I’m okay with it 🙂 you do you, if you feel like putting him in then do❤️ And if his attractions are integral to his character background, then don’t shy away from it. I trust your own judgement :))

        And u gave me a giggle when u pointed out about all the beloved assassins residing here🤣 so true and a good point to make as well.

        Those are my own thoughts, I don’t know what you guys think, but I am personally  okay with the inclusion of your character Calidris💖

          Anika

          Cal stifled a smile and said her feet would be fine. “They’re the most common irregular Latin verbs, they’re a present from my sister.”She got a far-away sound in her voice that made Anika’s chest tighten. She glanced at Natalya, but her face was a blank.

          What is Latin? Maybe it was spoken in the schools, or in Kjerte. She cocked her head at the funny-looking words and letters, wishing she could find the courage to ask what they meant and sounded like.

          “Do you have siblings?” The suddenness of the question made Anika’s head snap up and her heart thump harder. Her face darkened and she shook her head. “Well, I don’t know. It was just me when I was caught and sold, but I like to think I have more now. Maybe a little sister.” Her voice clogged up, and she turned to Natalya. “She has some, though.”

          Natalya

          She fixed Anika with a death-glare, then turned to Cal. “I have four brothers,” she said curtly, and was about to turn away. Then she saw Anika’s face. She couldn’t talk anymore.

          “One brother is older, and three younger.” Viktor would be twenty-four, Artur and Aleksander would be fifteen, and little Gleb would be twelve.

          twelve. Her gut tightened, as if the word had hit her with all the force Fedor could muster. [Fedor is the slave master]. She prayed that wherever Gleb was today, he would be safe and happy, and never think of his older sister, or come looking for her. Twelve. She shoved the number out of her head. She wouldn’t think about when she was twelve, or all the long years since then. She wouldn’t think about tomorrow, or the years that stretched ahead of her, barren, empty, desolate, except for Fedor and his children…

          the word was hard, even to think. She hoped she would never have to say it. What if she were sold away, with children like her brothers had been when she was ripped away from them? What if she ‘goodbye’ was a word she could never get away from?

          “You?” She barked. “Is it just you and your sister?”

          She could keep her socks and her sister and her presents, and go back to her university where she learned Latin verbs and dyed her hair blue. Natalya straightened her shoulders and tilted her chin up. When the dream was over, she and Anika would go back to Colondai and Fedor, and that was that.

              @calidris

              Avin was in prison when Elsa found him and asked him to help her find the prince, her brother. He first pointed out the difficulties, then broke out and accompanied her. She was NOT happy, and thought he was in prison for a crime. She hurt him a lot, mostly unintentionally, but once on purpose, because he wouldn’t tell her where they were going, and she was fed up, scared, and thought he was a blackguard. She ran away, into the teeth of a snowstorm, hit her head, and  was knocked unconscious. Avin found her, brought her to a cave, and made exhausting trips through the storm for {details} to keep them both alive. When she woke up she realized she’s been nasty, apologized, and he told her his backstory and the real reason he was in prison.

              Sorry. That was a lot of words, but I couldn’t think to do it in fewer.

                I’m probably not going to wait too much longer, since this person is actually has some strong ties to Valencia 🙂

                  Sounds good to me!😍

                  Sweet!  I’m not quite sure how to start this, since…well, Valencia has quite a bit of common sense and knows better than to approach intimidating masked men on a whim XD

                  Or would she?

                  We’ll need to figure out a way to force them both together!  I think it’s going to be really funny seeing them interact

                  Btw, is Lorcan still wearing his mask?  I seem to remember it falling into lava waaaaay back, but I can’t remember if he ever got it back or not XD

                  Also, do you need a description for Valencia?

                    @emily-waldorf what a lovely story for Avin and Elsa!  No wonder she wanted to marry him XD Avin honestly sounds like such a sweet and patient guy.  And the idea of him taking care of her like that throughout the storm is so cute and also kind of painful, considering how she treated him :’)

                      Sorry it took so long for me to respond! Since you said you’ll handle the character in a Christian way, I don’t mind. After all, I’m dealing with a bunch of narcissists, traitors, and murderers, yet I don’t usually call them that. I love them and know what they’ll grow into: joyful, noble, humble. I’m sure it’s similar with you and your character.

                        I’m not sure if that was what you meant by parmesan, I had to look it up to make sure that wasn’t just something I don’t know about XD

                        I really like how Jade is opening up and taking control of the dance as well! This is pushing Ophelia really far out of her comfort zone XD

                        @rose-colored-fancy

                        😂  I’m the one who has never seen pas de chat spelled before; I’ve only ever heard my ballet teacher say all of these terms! Don’t tell Jade I screwed up for her. Her pride will shatter, and I’d rather have that happen according to the plot 😂.
                        *shoves eavesdropping Jade back into the notebook where she belongs*

                        I do like that giving her a project has really made her show her character! I’m glad it’s …helping (?) Ophelia.

                            Avin’s thinking now, real hard.  I fidget in the silence.  I guess I almost feel embarrassed for asking him to begin with.  He’s taking this so seriously, and he doesn’t even know me!  It’s been a long, long time since I’ve received advice like this – I mean, actually useful advice.

                            “When she nettles you, you have to act smooth, and don’t prick back.”  I cock my head, studying him intently.  Does Val “nettle” me?  Not really – I think, at least unintentionally…

                            Me on the other hand…

                            Am I the annoying one here?

                            “One day, something will happen.  One of you will see the other for what they are; not for what you want to be, or what you pretend to be, but who you are.”  Chills run down my spine as he stares straight at me, dead serious.

                            Does he know?

                            But he can’t, there’s no way he could possibly know that.  And besides…

                            I’m pretty sure that day’s already far in my past.  I fidget nervously.  It’s not like it was my choice to begin with.

                            And it’s not like that “revelation” was attractive at all – if anything, it’s a liability for her.

                            I shake my head.  This can’t be what he’s talking about.

                            “It’ll be the worst and best day of your life.”  I wince.  Worst day of my life?  At least you got that one right.

                            “After that, you’ll still have to learn her language, but this time you’ll be working in it together.  When you get a word wrong she’ll correct you, and when she loses her temper you’ll help her find it, instead of losing yours, too.”

                            Am I still keeping secrets from her?  What more could she possibly want to know?

                            Honesty.  I think that’s what Avin is trying to say.  Just pure and simple honesty,

                            Pure and simple, huh?

                            Something clicks.

                            I whip around, gazing back at Val.  Have I really been making things too difficult for her?  I know she’s smart, but…

                            I also know she hates games.

                            I smile to myself, feeling just a little bit giddy.  I think it’s about time we adjust the rules, don’t you think?

                            ”She’s worth it–and she likes you. You just need to give it time.”  I snap back, staring back at Avin hopefully.

                            You think so?

                            ”The last thing you want to do.”  I nod, smiling sheepishly.  He’s read me too well.

                            “Where were you on the social ladder? Do you have titles in…your world?”

                            Where was I?  Excellent question, but not one I’m inclined to answer.  I pause, carefully choosing my words.

                            “Certainly there are countries in my world with titles, but mine did away with them from the very start.  I suppose you could say that there’s always been an aristocracy though – in any given system, there’s bound to be those wealthy few, those who carefully consolidate power and pass it down through generations.  I suppose in that sense, you could say I’m in aristocrat of sorts myself.”  I grin back at him.  “You see, Spire has always been controlled by five houses, and it’s a general rule of thumb that your house is going to have at least one ally and at least one enemy – I’m a Goldenjay, and Val is a Page, so technically we shouldn’t be getting along.”  I shrug.  “But like I said, broken pawns don’t get much attention, sooo no one actually seems to care too much what we’re up to.”  I grin mischievously.  “All the better for us, isn’t it?”

                            I’m writing this pretty late, and I can’t think of a question to ask Avin back at the moment 🙁  I think there might be something for him to use in Kit’s response, though!

                              Yeah so basically for this castle i made his mask fall off for convenience purposes, even though in my book having the mask off is a pretty big deal and the few times when he does it, its only ever in the presence of one character.
                              but in this case yes his mask was unfortunately consumed exposing his handsome looks for the world to see mwahahaha😆

                              I am sleeping a lot lately cause of work, so I haven’t been as active but I will help “force them together” 🤩 this is gonna be funnn

                                First, I must say that I really appreciate that you’re asking for our input on this topic. 🙂

                                I have a few questions that I’d like to ask for clarity’s sake. I’d like to know what your views on this subject are. Do you view homosexuality as a sin or as something to be embraced and accepted? You said that you were writing this from a biblical perspective, and I support that, but I’m still asking since there are some who use the Bible to justify homosexuality.

                                I also am wondering about your character’s view on this matter. Is he struggling against these feelings?

                                Again, thank you for asking for our input on this!

                                @calidris

                                  @inkhorn Of course!

                                  I do believe that homosexuality is a sin, but I also believe that it has been given an unfair “focus” by conservative Christian circles.  I’ve heard Christian circles talk about how evil homosexuality is, and then from those same circles, I’ll hear a strange level of silence surrounding issues such as sexual abuse in the church (which is especially baffling given the traction these cases are getting – just look at the SBC trials, for one thing).

                                  There needs to be a balance – we can absolutely call out sin while still showing love and compassion to hurting people!  It saddens me that as a church, we’ve gotten so good at pointing fingers at the world while ignoring glaring sins in our own circles.

                                  And this is definitely portrayed as a struggle for this character, and a scary one at that – he no longer has anyone he can trust to confide in.  I’m pretty sure he knows it’s wrong, but I think at this point he might be choosing not to act on it because of fear, rather than a desire to please God (fitting, since he and his social circles have been raised “religious” but never encouraged to pursue faith/a relationship with their Creator)

                                  I hope this helps!
