“Hey, Conan the barbarian, mind putting on some clothes?” The man in the strange metallic get-up  called from afar. He had been watching me from a distance, but this was the first time hearing his voice.

I looked down at my gaaban. If they were from another world, they probably knew nothing about aygiffs, meaning they knew nothing of gaabans. And if these ladies reactions were any indication, they probably didn’t know of any of the other races either, so no understanding of essence. Hue man? Is that what they called themselves? Or at least, Enydd did… did the others as well, or were they all from different worlds.

No understanding of essence, aygiffs, or gaabans…

My cheeks flushed. Did they think I was just standing here in what looked like boxers for no apparent reason?

Bowing, I excused myself from the ladies and walked to the stairs where my robe was. First the incident while dropping out of the aemirok’s form in my birthday suit, which it looked like, thankfully, no one noticed, and now this?

My cheeks continued to burned as I picked up my robe, hoping they didn’t think I was some sort of exhibitionist.

(Hope I did your characters justice…

Your take on Enydd was pretty accurate. Most people see her as as a happy-go-lucky, naïve person because of her constant laughing/smiling and awe for the world.

Also, thank you! You have revealed to me a quirk of Enydd’s! She rambles when she’s in shock. XD

          I’ll post her POV tomorrow.

Yay! it did make me nervous…writing someone else’s characters… felt like messing with someone else’s masterpiece… but this is a lot of fun. I needed something like this. I still consider myself a novice when it comes to writing… and this is the first time I’ve really engaged in any form of creative writing activity.

your  character’s cynicism is great! I don’t think I’ve ever laughed at dry negativism before. Quite excellently written. lol.

Aww, thank you, I really appreciate that! I’m really finding out about her on the go XD

Is it okay to borrow other characters when it comes to conversations? I’m wondering if I should respond, since the scene’s halted with us facing each other…. or wait for others to join in? Or perhaps just a short scene?

The way you did it is perfect! We have a general guideline that you can have other characters carry a conversation. If anything is out of character, the next person will just rewrite that bit in their post, so even if you ever mischaracterize, it’s okay!

Also, your characterization of Mejt was awesome! It was spot on!

Is there a typical curtesy limit as to how fast one writes a new post from one to the next? (lol. just asking since I’ve written a few so far already…)

Well, I write no more than one a day just because of time but there’s no real limit XD If you get in an interaction with someone in the same time zone, you might go back and forth two or three times a day. Basically, you’re doing great, don’t worry about it!

Somethings wrong. It keeps blocking me when I try to post it… something about WordPress?

This falls in the category of SE just being buggy XD That technique of splitting it up usually works!

Seeing other people’s takes on my characters is one of my favorite things about the castles! Especially since you get to see whether you were consistent and what stuck out to others. It’s always fun to read, and you did a great job!

Also, I love Abirami already XD Well-intentioned but clueless is the absolute best character type! He’s trying to do the right thing but he has no idea what he’s doing, bless his heart XD

He and Basil would get along most spectacularly… XD

ooh you were so close XD so Lorcan actually has short wavyish black hair heehee, and its sort of an undercut style. He also has gorgeous dark eyes that reminds you of a starry night when you look at them😊 I think i posted a drawing of him somewhere, ill see if I can find it XD As for Daire, he has ginger hair tied in a very short ponytail at the back and blue eyes XD otherwise your descriptions were pretty accurate 😄 well done!

I can never remember hair and eye color. I don’t make pictures of my characters or others’ (generally) in my head, especially not what their face looks like, so I’m really bad at this kind of thing, lol. I also tend to *ahem* skip the introductary posts, b/c I read/type so slow I want the time online for reading the action in the castle…terrible, terrible, I know, lol.  I love your description of Lorcan! I hope I don’t forget it this time. 🙂

lol. I kinda felt the same about trying to go back to read pages and pages previous story line to see who the characters were… lol. but… at least for my characters, I posted links… but there are pretty good visuals in the links. Used Hero Forge… it’s free (though it does have paying features -but only if you want it), and it makes really cool 3d images of characters (normally used for DnD players, I think… but works for this too.)

Well-intentioned but clueless is the absolute best character type!

lol. well, he is only 18, and for the most part self-taught   (fyi… he’s not usually so clueless, but he can be rather carefree…)

                    Enydd

“I’m May. I live in Varseina at the Lighthouse,” a blonde-haired girl said shortly.

I smiled politely. Varseina? Where on Thrae was that? A dark figure in the corner of the room stepped forward. It was a man. I watched in horror as the man disappeared. In his place was a raven.

Was he a Blessed? But there was no such thing as shapeshifting Blesseds.

The raven/man transformed into a wolf with wings.

“Why follow evil dhiaga?” he growled. “I have power to free you.”

Dhiaga? Free me? A wolf with wings?

Confusion and shock writhed, leaving me gaping on the sidelines as several men charged the wolf man. He swooped low, slashing a man’s chest. A pale girl stumbled forward. The wolf formed a beam of ice and hurled it forward. the girl, unconcerned, formed a glowing ball, freezing the man and the ice in midair.

“We don’t want to hurt you. I don’t know why you’re here; I don’t know why I’m here. But if we don’t work together, we will all die. These people they helped me. That man you hurt saved me from the dragon,” she said a voice that one used to calm a wild animal. She dropped her arms, exhausted. The light vanished along with all tension.

Thank goodness that was over. However, I had forgotten about the beam of ice. It flew forward, pinning the girl against the wall. I rushed towards the girl. Her face was covered with ice. I clawed at the ice, but my efforts were useless, of course. The shapeshifter strode forward, a vial in his hand. He poured it on the girl’s face. She gasped as the ice melted away. I caught her as she fell forward and eased her to the ground. She smiled gratefully and leaned against the wall. The color was returning to her face. She was going to be okay.

I laughed with relief and at the entire situation in general. Flying wolves. Shapeshifters. Glowing balls. Oh goodness, what had I gotten myself into? I breathed deeply, my heart still racing.

The shapeshifter was talking with May. He looked less threatening as a man. Friendly even. I walked up to them.

“Hi, my name’s Enydd Skovgaard. Um, you won’t attack us again, will you?” I asked with a nervous chuckle.

“My apologies. It was a mistake. It won’t happen again,” he answered, placing two fingers on his chest and bowing.

“Oh, good.” I mimicked his gesture. It must have been some sort of greeting.

“My name is Abirami. So, you are trapped here as well?”

“I guess I’m trapped. It was really strange. I was walking through the forest, it was quite lovely, when I tripped on this rock, but it wasn’t a rock, it was an arch. And then there were walls and a dead animal and the room trapped me! And, boop, here I am.” I paused, realizing for the first time how crazy the entire thing sounded.

Abirami raised an eyebrow in confusion. “Boop?”

“Did I actually say that?” I laughed. “Well, yeah, boop.” I rubbed my head. I must be in shock. Since when did I use words like “boop”?

                    May rolled her eyes.

I ignored her. “So, are you a Blessed? I didn’t know that Blesseds were able to shapeshift and blast ice and all that.” (she wouldn’t know what elves are)

“Um… I’m an aygiff.” Abirami said.

                    An aygiff?

“May I ask where you faehin are from?” he asked.

“Excuse me? I’m a human girl, not a fae-what’s-it.” I grinned. Me, a faehin? Shouldn’t I have wings and a billowy dress for that? “Anyway, I’m from Mara. And this is May. She lives in a lighthouse in…”

                    “Varsenia,” May filled in.

“Oh. Sorry, never heard of those places. I’m kind of from all over. But I was born in the kingdom of Vael,” Abirami said politely.

“Vael? I’ve never heard of it. You said it’s a kingdom? Like a state, or a country?” May questioned.

                    “What are those?” he asked.

“What are… You’ve got to be kidding.” May scoffed.

“By the maker, I’ve never heard of those places you said, and I’ve read maps from all over the world of Kaphar.”

“World of Kaphar? What’s that?” I asked, rubbing my temples. This was getting more and more confusing.

“You know,” I said, pointing to the ground. “The world. Kaphar.”

                    “The planet?” asked May.

                    Abirami nodded.

“You mean earth. The planet earth.”

“It’s a wild guess,” I jutted in, “but what if we’re all from completely different worlds?”

May opened her mouth for sharp retort then shut it when she realized that it was a valid possibility.

Oh, absolutely! I don’t think he’s stupid, his confusion is just quite amusing, though it makes sense considering the circumstances.

I love how all the different characters react to appearing in a strange place. I’ve had… seven different characters here, and they all had different reactions. I think my favorites were Sahar, who saw the whole thing as a glorious adventure, and Liorah, who instantly picked a fight and threatened the castle. Very in character XD

                        Mejt

The man turned toward me, and I took half a step backward, wariness overcoming anything else. Running wasn’t an option. If he really could change into animals, he could outrun me. He didn’t have weapons, but he didn’t need them.

He looked confused. His eyes were mismatched, one blue, one green.

He bowed, giving me an unfamiliar greeting. I’d never seen it before, not even among the many travelers.

                        “My apologies, my lady.”

I instantly shook my head, almost in a reflex. I flicked my right hand in a return greeting, open, palm upward.

“I’m not a lady. Don’t–” I said, my words catching in something that was too close to panic. I could get in trouble if anyone assumed I was something I was not. Even if it wasn’t my fault, I should have prevented it.

“I’m just May,” I insisted. The name felt more bitter than my own. I had exchanged ‘Spring’ for ‘bitter sea’ so often, but it never started feeling true.

He looked even more confused now, then tried a different greeting.

I shook my head, even more vehemently now. He was trying, I couldn’t blame him for it, but I had to get this sorted out fast.

“Are you traveling peddlers?” he asked.

“No, I’m not,” I said, rather more sharply than I’d meant. I understood his confusion, it wasn’t his fault. I was too used to people being rude to me when I didn’t understand something everyone else knew. Or worse, laughing at me.

“We’re trapped here,” I said, trying to soften my tone. I could see hurt behind the puzzlement. He was just as disoriented as we were, far out of his element. His violent reaction made more sense now. How often had I lashed out when I felt cornered by things I didn’t understand?

“We’re not together,” I nodded toward Enydd. She seemed nice enough, but she was a stranger. I didn’t like strangers.

The man stared at me harder now, straight in the eyes. I automatically averted my eyes. It was rude to stare at someone directly like that, at least in Liqeni. I had learned that lesson the hard way, by making mistakes and feeling my way in the darkness of an unfamiliar culture. Through the awkward blushes when I accidentally did something rude. I hated doing that, it was safer to avoid people altogether.

“Then what brought you here?” he asked.

                        I quirked a cold smile.

“Let me know when you figure that out.”

I couldn’t even remember how I’d gotten here.

“Then the dhaiga didn’t send you?” he asked.

                        “Who?” I asked, genuinely confused.

Enydd came back and started talking to the man. I found out his name was Abirami. Odd, I’d never heard anything like it. I tried to pinpoint where it could be from, but nothing came to mind.

He said he was an ‘Aygiff’ which meant absolutely nothing to me.

Enydd was trying to pull me into the conversation, but I didn’t take the bait. I drew back, as though I could pull up walls around me that would get them to leave me alone.

Abirami was called away, and I took the opportunity to draw back into the shadows. Isella was sitting against the wall again, pale as wax. I hoped she’d be alright. At least she had my jacket.

I wrapped my arms around myself, as though I could wrap myself in shadows, or invisibility. I hated being around this many people. Actually, I hated people, period. They said things I didn’t understand, words skimming too fast to keep up, accents scrambling the words I did know. Why was this so easy for everyone else?

They seemed to have no trouble understanding what others meant, reading the simplest gesture, while I was left confused, trying to unravel the layers under the words. Sometimes, people would say something and then laugh, but I never knew why. I didn’t understand. Why couldn’t I understand?

                        _________________

Huh, Mejt was nicer than I expected. I didn’t think she’d sympathize with Abirami…

                          Isella

The first thing she noticed was how tired she was. Then she realized that she was very, very cold. She opened her eyes.

The man that had transformed into a beast was standing next to her, rubbing her cheeks with his hands. She caught herself just in time to spare a scream. The armored man, who had risked his life to fight the dragon, was standing nearby, and she knew he wouldn’t sit placidly watching if this man meant her harm.

Instead she looked around. Ice covered her from her shoulders down to her feet, and she was plastered to the rock she had leaned against. She blinked, long and slowly.

I wish I wouldn’t keep doing that. Time-bending is exhausting.

Just to her right she caught sight of the girl that had helped her, eyeing them with a mixture of distrust and compassion.

She caught Isella looking and turned away, her sea-green eyes turning to ice.

She doesn’t like me. It was barely a conscious thought, but once she’d noticed it, Isella couldn’t make herself believe it wasn’t true. I wonder why.

She made a mental note to try and make friends with the girl, but right now she was too tired to care. The man finished rubbing her cheeks and walked away, but Isella still couldn’t move.

She looked down. Ice still held her arms and legs, but it was slowly receding. She couldn’t feel her fingers or toes, and wondered if it would recede fast enough to avoid frost-bite.

When it was gone, though, she almost wished it back: the effort of holding herself up was so great it was almost worth frostbite to have the ice do it for her. She shook herself. It doesn’t matter if I liked the ice or not, it’s gone, so there’s no use thinking about it.

When she tried to move she found she could. The man was engaged in talking with several people at once–a smiling, girl who stood bouncing on her toes, the girl who had helped Isella, and the man in armor. Isella mentally noted him as a knight.

she looked farther back. in the recesses of the cave were other people, hooded in shadow so that she couldn’t see. The one still leaning over the body of his sister.

Isella shuddered, but she couldn’t go to them yet. Not far away from her lay the man who had freed her from the dragon, bleeding from the wound that animal had given him.

                          Maybe even dead.

She shoved the thought aside and started toward him as fast as her wobbling legs could carry her. If he were dead, I would have felt it.

The man with the water was standing over him, unsure of what to do, his face contorted in a look of horror and disbelief.

                          She smiled sadly.

“Friend of yours?” She asked as she hurried up. He turned his eyes toward her. they were big and glassy with confusion and fear that seemed to ask her to help him. He was a young man, and obviously attached to this wounded person.

She smiled as encouragingly as she could, but as she knelt beside the man she wondered, What can I do? And especially without my hunting gear!

Once more she looked around for Cirian. It was in his saddle bag. If she could just find him–then she remembered. I was in hunting clothes when I left. She looked down in consternation at the silky silver dress she was wearing.

Under her breath she cursed fate.

IDk if this is what you want to be happening/in character (or if you have time to write in college), but if you want to interact, there you go! Otherwise just forget about the circumstances I’m entrenching your characters in, lol.

i will post a chapter later today lol, but I‘m liking it so far! Feel free to use Lorcan and Daire (as long as you don’t give them radical personality changes🤣) challenges are exciting hehe i would say Lorcan is mostly concerned with how he has managed to humiliate himself by getting injured😂 i will also write Daire‘s response too 🙂

@irishcelticredflowercrown I look forward to it! I feel pretty comfortable with Lorcan, not so much with Daire b/c I don’t know him as well–so thanks for the permission. Lol. Poor guy. He’s been too good at everything for too long. He could use a bit of humiliation now and then, I shouldn’t wonder. :’)

The characters have been to many different parts of the castle like the gardens, library, zero gravity room, etc. However, the castle is constantly changing so there is no definite layout. You can create any type of setting you want within the castle. The only rule concerning the setting is that it has to be within the castle since characters are not allowed to leave the castle. I hope that makes sense.
