so, I believe the Shrike has finally discovered Liorah, and he may or may not be rather smitten…

So, @everyone, yes, Liorah does have a love-interest in-story, but I decided to temporarily erase that from existence so I can figure out how Liorah reacts to having a crush, like Yila and Lorcan are doing.

It’s going to be chaos, she’s so oblivious.

I have no idea how flirting works irl so I’m just going to pass that one off to Liorah lol

LOL, dude, you think I do? I’m making this up as I go along XD The fact that Liorah is stupid and oblivious makes that easier XD

This took an incredibly long time because I’m trying out a new style with Saskia!  It took a while to get into her mindset, plus she’s not very well developed yet

Also, I wrote random portions of this kind of late, so some of it is definitely not going to be written as well lol

I think it was really well done! I really enjoyed it!

He’s staring straight at us – big, inky eyes peeking out from soft curtains of black curls.

      Basil?

And just like that, I can feel my whole chest squeeze in a knot.  He’s sitting all alone, eyes soft and forlorn, lips ever so slightly pulled to the right.  It’s a real pretty look, but I can tell he’s bored out of his mind.

It’s like the second paragraph and I can already tell she’s smitten XD

      @irishcelticredflowercrown

and he did indeed lose it, its so very tragic that his handsome features are now on full display, unfortunately for everyone they must now endure this, especially Yila…

I think it’s safe to say Liorah isn’t impressed XD

Lemme see if I can lure Aydin out of wherever he’s hiding…

        Aydin

I had to stop. Crying wasn’t going to get me anywhere, it never had. I took a shuddering breath and tried to pull the sounds into focus.

I felt marginally better, it was a little easier to breathe at least.

Someone was arguing. I recognized the heated tones and hard back-and-forth. Who were those idiots who thought now was a good time to argue?

I slowly forced myself to get up. Everything was so heavy and I was so tired of putting myself back together again every day.

I wiped my eyes, hoping nobody would see I had cried. I had always been afraid of looking as weak as I felt.

I inched to the opening of the cave, not ready to see Quin weeping over Qatar’s dead body.

I still smelled blood and smoke. It was always there after the world seemed to have dissolved. I had to keep myself together, just for now. I couldn’t afford to collapse again.

People were walking back and forth. There were new people, but I barely registered anyone.

I almost walked into someone who had been standing against the entrance of the cave.

They spun around, somehow drawing their sword within half a second and aiming it at my neck.

I acted out of pure instinct and grabbed the sword, ignoring that it cut into my hand. Was this the castle? Was this a newcomer? Had someone decided to finally killl me?

I took a step backward without letting go of the sword. Just in time.

A thud of pain shot through my shin, as my attacker had tried to kick my legs out from under me, barely thrown off by step backward.

They mumbled a curse and tried to wrench the sword out of my hand and drive it at my throat again.

I recognized that profanity, just as I recognized the furious glare fixed at me, as I looked my attacker in the face the first time.

“Liorah, for goodness sake, stop trying to kill me,” I said, exhasperated.

“Oh, hi, Aydin,” Liorah said, as she recognized me. She stopped trying to cut my throat.

“Why do we always end up like this?” I asked, tiredly, pushing the sword I was still holding further away from me.

“Not always,” Liorah protested, “This is only like the second time.”

“Only? Only the second time you try to kill me for no reason? It’s at least the third time, possibly the fourth,” I said, exhasperated. It depended on whether I counted that time she’d almost broken my nose.

Now I understood who those idiots fighting had been. One of them had been Liorah and the other one was some poor fool who had annoyed her.

Liorah was good at exactly two things, making enemies and making problems.

(Truer words have never been spoken)

“What was the third time? I don’t remember that,” Liorah said, enthousiastically diving into the argument.

“That time you almost stabbed me. Does that ring any kind of bell because I certainly haven’t forgotten?” I said, getting more and more annoyed with every passing word.

Liorah’s brittle eyes softened in thought. I was still holding her sword away from stabbing me, of course she could take all the time she wanted.

“Oh, that time. That was your fault,” Liorah said, as though that settled it. “You startled me.”

“You startled me when you tried to kill me ten seconds ago,” I retaliated. This was the stupidest argument.

“Well, let go of the sword and I’ll put it away. I didn’t know it was you. Why are you still holding on to it anyway?”

“Because I thought you were going to stab me in the throat,” I said, articulating carefully. Was she pretending to be dense? No, I knew Liorah, she didn’t have to pretend.

“Well, I’m not going to,” Liorah said, as though she was convinced I was the stupid one.

I let go of the sword and she put it back. She looked back at me and frowned, suddenly worried.

“Are you alright?” she asked, more gently than before.

I wasn’t going to lie so I had to be creative.

        “You’ve seen me look worse.”

“Not by much,” she said, her sharp eyes boring into me.

        “That bad?” I asked, breezily.

“I can’t leave you alone for five minutes, can I?”

Her tone was half joking, half worried.

“You’re bleeding. Stop it,” she said.

“Your wish is my command,” I said, ironically.

She was looking down at my hand and I supressed the urge to hide it.

“Is it alright if I look? What happened?” Liorah asked, glancing at me and waiting for permission before looking at the cut.

I nodded and shrugged and she pulled back my sleeve and wiped away the already drying blood. Her shoulders sagged in relief as she saw that it was shallow and minor and had already stopped bleeding.

“Aydin, what happened? Was it the castle or someone else?” She looked fully ready to go stab whoever had attacked me.

“Kind of the castle,” I mumbled. “Don’t make enemies on my behalf. Actually, don’t make enemies, period.”

Liorah grinned, the smile suddenly lighting up her face with that wicked expression of delight. Little fiend.

        “Too late for that.”

        I rolled my eyes.

“Where did you come from anyway?” I asked.

“Crawled out of the gutters while you weren’t watching,” Liorah said, without a single hesitation. Why did I even bother?

“I know,” I said, just to annoy her.

        “Then why did you ask?”

She shifted from her joking attitude back to a serious one. How did she do that so suddenly?

        “You look tired.”

        “Maybe because I am tired.”

“Then why don’t you sleep?” Liorah said, as though I was incredibly stupid for not thinking of it myself.

“I’ll sleep when I’m dead, this place isn’t safe,” I said, the sudden tension returning in my voice.

“Nonsense,” Liorah scoffed. “If you fall asleep on your feet I’m going to laugh at you.”

Was she really trying to bully me into taking care of myself? I had never met anyone like her and that was a good thing too.

I sighed and picked out a darker spot somewhere in the shadows where I could see most of the cavern without being noticed. I hated giving in to Liorah but I really was on the point of falling asleep on my feet.

I sat down with a sigh that made it obvious I was annoyed at her and only doing it out of spite.

        Liorah raised her eyebrows.

“I’ll stab anyone who seems like a threat.”

My head shot up, suddenly anxious.

        “No, Liorah, do not–”

“Fine, I won’t stab anyone. Except maybe Lorcan but he deserves it.”

I wasn’t even going to ask.

Liorah was annoying and exhasting and exhasperating but I couldn’t help being relieved that I wasn’t alone among strangers anymore.

          Liorah

I waited until I was sure Aydin was asleep before getting up. He somehow managed to sleep sitting up which was impressive in and of itself but I was fairly sure it was a left-over instinct from his time with the assassins, which always sent a pang of pain through me.

Aydin almost never relaxed and there was nothing I could do to change that, no matter how much I wanted to. I knew almost nothing about what had happened with him while he had been an assassin, but I wasn’t sure I wanted to know. It still hurt him every day and I hated them for that.

I looked up. A man with an almost colorless appearance but jet-black clothing was looking right at me. I glared right back, looking him directly in the eye with something that wasn’t hostility but certainly could be if he kept going.

What was with the all black? Was he trying to show off how rich he was, or did he just like looking like a ghost?

A short woman joined him and shot him a decidedly disgruntled look. I grinned at both of them, half mocking, half friendly.

The man was extremely tall, but not altogether bad-looking.

He was still gawping at me in a rather amusing manner. Was he shocked to see a girl with weapons? He was in for a nasty surprise.

“Lost your tongue?” I asked, shooting him a sharp grin.

          _________

That’s…. apparently how Liorah flirts. By being rude. Wow.

Oh gosh I would love it if she could insult Lorcan about his looks😂 especially if she knew Yila liked him. Liorah seems like the kind of person who would insult someone because they’re great looking hehe

I have no idea if that’s canon but it absolutely could be XD That’s totally her thing XD

I think if she knew Yila had a crush on him she might not do it but she doesn’t know so expect some barbed comments flying Lorcan’s way XD I warned you XD

                Lorcan

Aydin was back too, it seemed. Things appeared to be – frostier between him and Liorah. Lorcan wondered how much time had passed since he last saw them. And what had changed. A lot apparently.

He was secretly relieved at least that Aydin was alive. He definitely preferred him over that high and mighty princess.

He sat down on a rock and began to drum his fingers against the surface. How he longed to be using them for pulling the ropes of a sail, skinning a hunted seal or even playing the bodhrán. Instead he was stuck here in this stinking mess. Well – it wasn’t all bad…

He looked over at Yila. He noticed the way she held herself, the way the light reflected off her dark hair, the way her eyes shone with determination. She met his gaze, and immediately blushed.

Lorcan smiled, pushed himself to his feet and made his way towards her. He stopped in front of her, suddenly feeling unsure. Did she fear him, after what the castle tried to make him do to her and her brother?

He cleared his throat. “May I – sit?”, he asked in a gravelly tone.

Her blush turned darker, but she nodded. He sat down, breathing out deeply and glanced at her. She was fidgeting with her knives, and doing everything in her power not to look at him.

”I hope I didn’t scare you too much,” he said into the silence, his voice a deep baritone. “He have no intention of harming you or your brother. You have my word.”

She nodded quickly. Still she wasn’t looking at him. Out of shyness perhaps?

He leaned forward slightly, bending his head slightly so he could catch her eye. She glanced at him, startled. He smirked at her. She gave a somewhat shy smile back. Lorcan’s chest constricted slightly. Woah. She really was quite pretty.

“So,” he said softly. “Do you want to tell me who you are Yila?”

That’s a great idea, except Saskia already has a love interest – kind of.  I’m not sure what point their relationship’s at at this point…

Yeah, I can already tell a good chunk of my time in the castle is going to be spent trying to make Skia and Basil kiss lol

I’m here too! (Kinda busy with CWW, I’m writing until my brain feels fried, but I’ll make time!) I think some of the others either just started school again or are on holidays!

                          Summary please??

So, Qatar came back to life, Quin is breaking down about it, @calidris ‘s characters Sasha and Saskia entered and Saskia is showing signs of having an immense crush on Basil.

Liorah, my character, entered and immediately argued with Lorcan because she’s like that and they have ✨backstory✨. She then found Aydin and bullied him into taking a nap. (I needed to reboot my character.)

Liorah is now looking for an opportunity to make problems or enemies! If she figures out that Rúan can manipulate fire she’s never leaving him alone XD

I think that about covers it!

Something to boost it going again…a little offering, very small and stiff. 😛 @irishcelticredflowercrown, yay, I’m not the only person stalking this chat–yay, everybody’s here!

                              Quin/Qatar

                              “You’re a terrible brother, though.”

Something beyond jest was lying in the back of Qatar’s eyes.

                              Quin’s shoulders sagged.

“I know.” You too. He studied the floor.

Just then, a woman appeared falling on her back on the floor and jumping up again. Like a cat.

She and Locran started ribbing each other–obviously they’ve met…

“You lost your crutch–again.” Qatar’s voice cut into his thoughts.

Quin looked at the lone crutch Qatar had returned to him.

                              “They’re both makeshift, by  now.”

“Locran did a good job with this one, but this?” Qatar picked up  Quin’s other crutch. “You made it, didn’t you?”

Quin nodded. Qatar sniffed. Quin’s eyes strayed over to Locran. Something the new woman had said had stung, he could see a familiar look in the assasain’s eyes. Suddenly, he laughed.

Qatar raised his eyebrows. Quin blinked.

“Music for sore ears,”  muttered Qatar. “Or music to make sore ears.”

Quin smirked. “Better than yours,” he ventured.

Qatar glared at him. “Bad timing, Little Brother. You just got me killed.” He turned away and walked off into the cave, toward two screaming newcomers. ( @calidris, that would be your characters, if you want to interact). He paused by Evie and said in a low voice, “Thanks–for keeping him alive. His life isn’t his to take. That’s for me.” She looked into his eyes, startled at his sober tone.

Quin hobbled over toward Locran and the new girl. They were both smiling, but underneath he could sense a tension. I’m used to it, I guess.

( @irishcelticredflowercrown and @rose-colored-fancy whichever of you wants to interact with Quin–or neither–go ahead and claim the conversation. Otherwise he’ll go find Ruan or somebody. 🙂 )

                                Y’ALL!! I’VE RETURNED!!!

I survived CWW and am ready to make chaos with my characters again!

Okay, lemme see… where were we?

                                Liorah

The two I guessed were brothers exchanged sharp words. I didn’t pay much attention, but I couldn’t miss the tone. That’s just what being a sibling was like.

The tall one strode past us, and I didn’t take my gaze off him. Something about him put me on edge. I didn’t claim to have the best intuition but something was off.

I glanced at Aydin, but he was still asleep. Good.

The younger hovered next to us, leaning on a makeshift crutch. I saw at a glance that his left leg was missing below the knee. Probably an accident.

My sharp gaze fixed back on him again and he shrunk into himself, apparently disliking the attention. Sudden sympathy took over.

“Hey,” I said, rather shortly. “I’m Liorah. Who are you?”

Without darkness, there is no light. If there was no nighttime, would the stars be as bright?

                                  @rose-colored-fancy *Waves* Hi!

                                  Quin

The tall girl turned her hawk-like eyes full on Quin. He drew back and his eyes flickered away.

Ha. Shouldn’t have come over here.

He glanced up at Locran. he had tossed his hair out of his face, and was eyeing Quin. when he caught Quin’s glance he cocked a lopsided grin at him.

Quin glanced at Qatar. Ten short months ago he might have seen the same look of encouragement on his brother’s face.

“Hey,” the girl snapped. Quin’s head jerked around. He could feel his cheeks reddening. confound it!

                                  “I’m Liorah. Who are you?”

“Quin.” he didn’t meet her eyes. “How’d you get here?” Idiotic question. How should she know?
