Hey, everyone! An idea popped into my head for a story and I spent some time writing the beginning of it. I would greatly appreciate thoughts and critiques. 😀

“Fire moon, burning bright, give me what I seek tonight,” Zillah chanted, gazing at the rising summer moon emblazoned against the pitch-black sky. Around it, the stars were a hap…[Read more]

Welcome to our lovely frosty (or maybe sweltering, depending on where you are) first lesson of July! We’re going to be focusing on emotions in storytelling today. What do emotions have to do with pacing and suspense? Glad you asked.
It’s all very well to write a scene that has an insane amount of tension in the action. After all, he only just…[Read more]

Thank you @ariella-newheart! Paddler is a very loveable creature. The problem is, Ginger is lazy and prideful and Paddler is very down-to-earth and diligent. Ginger disdains the dog because he’s a slop and Paddler can’t stand Ginger because he’s so lazy. Hence the conflict. Paddler does tend to do/say things without thinking, however, so certainly…[Read more]

@wishingwell13 not sure if it’s correct, but that’s how I spell it XD
One day I will find a shirt that has a phoenix on it. I do have one that says “Storyteller” with a unicorn though 😉

Hmmm, indeeeeeeeed. The main thing is that I don’t know anyone, and I don’t think I can invite anyone into a cabin now… too late in the session.
If we can get 5 people interested, I’ll make a cabin. (If possible.) I will be in two cabins, but hey! That’s fiiiiine.

WOOT! You made it alllll the way to our 4th lesson! *hands out lembas* Good job. Now we’ll be looking at our beautiful little vectors. Those points that your readers have their attention drawn to. That thing that keeps being mentioned. It doesn’t have to be huge, but the mystery around it does. You need to keep feeling yourself get drawn into it.…[Read more]

@wishingwell13 Heh…yeah…ouch. I would normally avoid killing good characters, but my series spans thousands of years and my characters can’t live forever. It would be a bit weird for them to all just die off scene and have readers never know how any of their favorite characters died. Soooo…I’m going to have to kill a lot of my precious.…[Read more]

@wishingwell13 YAS! Someone else whose wolves aren’t evil!
Ah, yes, I could see why he would want to take over the world! Here are two good articles from Kingdom Pen about villains (I’m sure there’s more, but these were the two I could remember) that might help you make your E.V.O.N.N.…[Read more]

@wishingwell13 Oooh…I had an Alex in my books before I changed his name to Alek. 😉 That sounds like a really cool story! I’m curious about the personalities of the characters. Here’s a little formula that I use for getting to know my characters better. (If you don’t need something like that then feel free to ignore it.)

@wishingwell13 Hey, I’m writing a story about two brothers who were the sons of a ruler and had three other siblings who died too! My characters are wolves, though 😛
Does your villain have any motives for taking over the kingdom (or whatever he is trying to do) other than wanting to rule more land? That’s a decent motive, but I have to admit…[Read more]

Also, if you want to have a bit of a look at the Themes and Character Arcs that really help build and strengthen a plot, (one, get Theme Mastery) but you can also check out these articles. *nodnod* Really good things to check out. (and they’re free) They also tend to sum up what I tend to say on the…[Read more]
