Okay all ye Parimis, it’s about time we found out why you signed up for a guild.

Here is where we can discuss our WIPs (Works in Progress) and get help and ideas from one another. So essentially, a thread full of flailing brainstorming! *cheers* I’m looking forward to seeing what everyone’s working on!!!

 

I’ll start us off with a quick description of my WIP so that you can all get the hang of what this thing is for. 😉

 

Flightless: A Fantasy Novel

BLURB:
Forced into an arranged marriage with a stranger from another country, Caution flees the palace to deal with the conflict between the two nations herself, her only companion being a silent stablehand who served under her father. Ancient legends spoke of a dragon who would assist those with a noble heart that strove for the good of the kingdom, and Caution intended to find them to aid her in her quest.

Upon neither the dragon nor her companion being what they seemed, and another more sinister plot being revealed, her plans are thrown into the wind, leaving her wondering if she should have just accepted the marriage.

But how do you know if you can fly unless you first fall?

Baaasically it is about a princess who has wings and is escaping an arranged marriage, an ex-prisoner dude who has decided to become her bodyguard, a rather bizarre girl who can turn into a dragon, and an assassination plot. (Shhh, that’s definitely a storyline and an actual idea. :P)

More cohesively, the main character, Caution, has been forced into an arranged marriage, and she knows that it won’t settle the problem between the two kingdoms. So she decides to go on a quest and seek the help of the Dragon of Guidance in what she needs to do to fix all of the problems.

Glayde, a stablehand who had been muted by the King, (Caution’s Father) due to a mistake that he didn’t want people to know of, sees Caution as a means of revenge and thus chooses to accompany, planning to somehow hurt her or kidnap her along the way as a method of forcing the King to give him his voice back.

Suitini is the dragon of guidance. She also happens to be a grouchy teenage girl who can turn into a dragon. Let’s just say she isn’t impressed when she has to go on a quest with two humans, but she still helps them out, along the way discovering Glayde’s plot to harm Caution and flying away with Caution and leaving him behind seeing that he’s the only one who doesn’t have wings. (Caution, being part of the royal family, has wings and a weird name.)

Unfortunately, Glayde had kinda had a change of heart at that point and actually wanted to help Caution seeing that he could see that she wasn’t as evil as the King. He also hears of an assassination plot against the King, so he hurries off by foot to find Caution and Suitini to get help.

Caution gets kidnapped by the same people arranging the assassination, (the other kingdom that she’s meant to be marrying into) and Suitini is mad because she’s certain it’s Glayde’s fault, so she flies back to find him. They find each other and Glayde manages to communicate what’s going on to her and she grudgingly agrees to help.

Meanwhile, Caution discusses the issue with the enemy King, and gets released in order to go and talk her father out of war. She meets up with Suitini and Glayde and they go off to sort the King out as well as stop the assassination.

Upon reaching the King, they are thrown in the dungeon because the King is actually kinda evil and wants to war to go ahead. He’s not interested in peace because he wants to conquer the other half of the Kingdom. Suitini turns into a dragon before they get thrown into the dungeon and flies away because she really doesn’t want to be locked up, and doesn’t care about the others that much.

After some time getting mad at herself for being more cowardly than the humans, she flies back to her mentor, the original Dragon of Guidance (Harani) who is kinda mad at how terrible the King has become, so she and Suitini fly back to the castle, and Harani flies the king off somewhere or other, resulting in him being banished. Suitini then breaks the other two out of the dungeon, and Caution takes hold of the throne, thus ensuring peace between the Kingdoms and giving Glayde back his voice.

 

There’s also a few plot twists and betrayals thrown in there, but you can get the general idea. (sorry for any typos!!)
