thank you so much for reading! It’s a complex and delicate subject. Slavery and war are both very controversial topics. The question of guilt or innocence is also a difficult one (ultimately, only the Lord can determine true innocence) and I think this situation blurs the line between innocent and guilty in a stark…[Read more]

“Just…need air…” Alessio whispered, wilting again.
Nithel’s jaw set, and he nodded. He put his arm around Alessio, under the youth’s arms. He stared at the lowered head, the pain aching in this youth. He had to resist the urge to kiss him, and looked around the room. It would probably be easier to put Alessio over his back, but it would probabl…[Read more]

Brooooooooo *.*
It’s about a small-time, snarky thief, Hugon, roped into double heist in the palace as he struggles with betrayal and abandonment issues.
Cathy, I’m not that bad at book blurbs. xD The book I was describing was my second novel that I finished a few weeks ago (not TTD). It’s quite hard to describe, but I’m w…[Read more]

Hi Karissa!
Welcome to the Story Embers Forums! I think you are going to like it here. This is a great group. Always very helpful and enthusiastic, and if anyone is lacking in enthusiasm, perhaps we can borrow some of that “pixie dust magic” from Cathy (@this-is-not-an-alien) as she is such fun that it charms us all when she bo…[Read more]

Tears still slipped from Nithel’s eyes, but he felt Alessio relaxing. He gave the youth one last squeeze, Nithel’s head pushing against Alessio’s shoulder and neck, more tears falling. He pulled back, hands still on the youth’s arms, just enough to look into Alessio’s eyes. Nithel moved to where he could see them, if that means kneeling,…[Read more]

Alessio clutched Nithel madly. Like his son the first time Domnik saw a man’s arm severed. Like his son would clutch him at night, when Nithel stumbled on him, weeping. He shouldn’t have had to fight. Cruel world. Nay… it was man. But my son is a man. Avigail… He burns inside, aching enough for physical pain. Alessio, what did they do to…[Read more]

Nithel hadn’t been expecting the punch. He’d only wanted to stop Alessio from breaking his hand on the stone, to calm him down, to make him breathe. But Nithel slung back against the wall, stars dancing in his vision, and pain cutting up his jaw. He released Alessio, one hand reaching back to steady himself against the stone, the other flying to…[Read more]

Weeeeell, it depends on your perspective XDDD. Some might say I’m on draft one billion, others might say I’m on chapter 20 something or other but I’d say…chapter 1. Again.

Aw, thanks!! I shall recording chapter one tomorrow. It’s a pretty boring chapter but it explains the backstop of the world and introduces most of the important characters so it’s kind of necessary. I think. My alpha reader thinks it’s awful (thanks again, sis) but it’s still kind of important. I think. Isn’t that right @this-is-not-…[Read more]

Alrighty y’all, I’ve had several questions and thoughts piling up, and I thought I might as well put them all in one post. So here we go.
Replacements for look: I’m not referring to the context ‘he looked at the barn,’ I’m referring to the phrase ‘he gave her a flat look.’ Any replacement for that come to mind? I feel like a use it a l…[Read more]

“Alessio.” Nithel’s voice was softer than he expected it to be, but steady and firm. He slipped between Alessio and the wall, catching the youth’s flying hand in both of his, squeezing, keeping it from moving. He looked into Alessio’s eyes, pain fighting fatigue in them. Fear, but a calmness that was stronger. Nithel stood there a moment longer,…[Read more]
