Okay guys. So sorry I’ve been gone, been dealing with doctors not believing me about my allergies until it was pretty obvious I was a mess, combined with the end of term rush of writing a ton of essays and music reports. *facepalm* But I’m back now.
I’m agreeing with Grandmother’s hands. Also, seeing that it has to be in a dramatic setting, maybe…[Read more]

@taylorclogston As an introvert, I relate very much to what you said about being trapped in a small room with lots of people. *shivers*
@evelyn I’m curious; what is book-binder poetry?

@taylorclogston You learned absolutely nothing? O.o
Wow… that’s talent. ;P
Yay! I’m so glad that you finally have had a good beta read. That’s amazing! I know you’ve been having trouble finding people to read it… I still feel bad about that. 😛
Dude… I totally relate. Last week was hard, man. Stress of getting ready for a big party with a…[Read more]

I unfortunately got behind on that and some other stuff. But I can say I’ve got through to chapter three!
A thing I’m interested in is, who’s the wizard at the beginning? It’d be nice if we got some breadcrumbs as to who he is, how he knew Dan, if he served as a mentor figure beyond that initial encounter, and the impression he…[Read more]

@kayla-skywriter I know you just said that your questions were answered and so this conversation is essentially over and I should just keep my mouth shut, but this is such an interesting thread and I can’t help but jumping in on the convo! 🙃
I would agree with @taylorclogston that we shouldn’t write about a denomination just to be argumentative…[Read more]

Thanks everyone, I think my questions have been thoroughly answered.
@taylorclogston I think that the lack of Lutheran fiction is because of the lack of Lutherans. I live in the part of the US where LCMS churches are at there highest, but the numbers are dropping. There are still many Lutherans, but even among Lutherans the LCMS is a minority.…[Read more]

It seems like literal aeons ago, but once upon an Annual Theme of Pacing and Suspense, we looked creating a sense of suspense and atmosphere through objects in writing. And then more recently, we had a post from Martin about The Artist’s Eye, and to seek the beautiful in the ordinary everyday.
For the next two weeks, that’s exactly what we’…[Read more]

when there’s a thick fog of tar between you and whatever you need to do, all the sitting in one place in the world can’t push that tar away.
Yep, I know exactly what you mean. It’s a struggle to type out even one sentence. Since I wrote my last post, the “fog” has lifted a little. I think it might have something to do with swi…[Read more]

@taylorclogston thanks for your input! My family gave me a copy of The Emotion Thesarus for fathers’ day (thanks to the recommendations of some others on this site), and it seems like Wallace’s response certainly tracks with what they’re saying as well.
This way of thinking — letting the character’s emotions drive the scene — is new t…[Read more]

@princess-foo I agree, you should always respect someone else’s beliefs.
So, correct me if I’m wrong, you’re saying that you shouldn’t write a book with the specific goal of shunning other denominations. However, if the theme of your book is in disagreement with another denomination that is okay?
For example, I shouldn’t write a book about…[Read more]

@kayla-skywriter I don’t think it matters that much. As @taylorclogston says, denominations are just groups of people who align in beliefs on certain doctrine. Obviously, some of those beliefs are going to be more important than others. While there are some things I need to stand on, there are many doctrinal differences where I can understand why…[Read more]

@taylorclogston thank you for commenting. I am curious to see what different people think about this.
I personally believe that the author should not fear going against the other denominations if they are backed up by scripture. In the case of large issues like conversion or the sacraments I believe the author should stand up for there…[Read more]

@taylorclogston Ah okay. Yeah… I made a mock cover for my novel but I didn’t trace down the clipart and photos like I should have. 😛 I was mainly just playing around, but when it turned out, I realized I should have either way.

@ariella-newheart Yeah! I’m excited. 😀
@taylorclogston Well, I really wanted to read either Tolkien’s or Heaney’s but we already have a copy of Beowulf that my school curriculum asks for… that is the Dover Thrift Edition translated by R. K. Gordon.
Wow, that translation sounds really interesting. My brother is working on a startup right now,…[Read more]

Just started reading a few pages, so I might have to read further ahead to find out- but do the made-up-books come back later? The first thing I thought of when I read the book about knots was “Okay, so there’s probably going to be someone using a magic system that uses knots in rope as a spellcasting focus.”

Final post until we’re caught up! *cheers*
So, this one is written by Jane, with the input of Faith and Daeus who are two of Story Embers’ self-published writers, unlike Jane who is very much neck deep in working through the traditional publishing world.
So you know from the start, both have their benefits and disadvantages. Particularly…[Read more]

Hello all!
This week’s (or more, last week’s) lesson is from Martin, and is looking at the pros and cons of typing, and writing by hand.
So, without any further rambling from Jess, let’s see what Martin has to say about notebooks and keyboards!
Things I’ve learned from my own experience with both mediums:
Typing:
