  • J.A.Penrose started the topic Guild War : It's a Beautiful Day in the forum Announcements 6 years, 10 months ago

It seems like literal aeons ago, but once upon an Annual Theme of Pacing and Suspense, we looked creating a sense of suspense and atmosphere through objects in writing. And then more recently, we had a post from Martin about The Artist’s Eye, and to seek the beautiful in the ordinary everyday.

For the next two weeks, that’s exactly what we’re doing. (More the latter than the former.)

Prompt: Write a story where you bring out the beauty of something ordinary in a very dramatic setting.

    Word Limit: 2500

    Time: Monday 17th – Monday 1st

    The Judge: Jane Maree

For those who are new to Parimi Alca Guild Wars, or if you just want a refresher, here’s what I’ve got.

    1. We all brainstorm together in this thread. The doc does NOT get touched yet.
    2. One or two people will volunteer to write a draft based on what we’ve discussed on this doc HERE. This draft is going to be rough, and may not even have the full story.
    3. It also does not need to reach the 2500 word–or even close–at this stage.
    4. We all get together and edit this on suggestion mode
    5. This will involve adding in entire paragraphs, suggesting rewrites, adding in sentences here and there, etc. Imagine you are editing your own first draft.
    6. I will be accepting comments as we go in order to keep things organised.
    7. We do awesome.

Some of you may recall our last guild word-war in which I accidentally let it slip that I’m a tad competitve. Wellll, yep. We need to give this 100% and get into the spirit of things! Part of the reason for this is…well…I’m having to look after Jane’s guild this week, and I’m having to make sure they’re working really hard. I’m helping our opposition. 😲 Welp. So we need to do extra extra awesome this time, so that Jane gets completely blown away by it. 😉

I personally loooove bringing out little details and bits of aesthetic in stories. 😍  Sometimes, it’s the way that some small, normally insignificant thing is raised up that makes it the most amazing of them all, and completely binds a story together with that one motif.

I want to see what thoughts you guys have, and woot! I reckon you’ll do stellar in this!

So, what are the thoughts of the Parimis?
