We probably ought to decide on something in the next day or two so we can move towards writing a draft. What options are you all leaning towards?
I think we should do a young child’s conversion because that’s the option we’ve talked about the most.

Hello Parimis! We have another lesson from Daeus today, and it’s on Beta Readers! Woot! We all love Betas, and Beta-ing is equally as awesome. Let’s see what Daeus has for us today.
Beta reading is a great way to make friends, help others, and even polish your skills.
Today, I want to give you some tips so that, when you beta read, the friend…[Read more]

@ariella-newheart Yeah, it would be a bit of a challenge. But then again, I think all the options would be pretty challenging, so I guess we have to pick our battle. 😛
Good point about having adults to set examples. That is definitely a huge part of a young child’s conversion, since they are depending on and looking up to the adults around them.…[Read more]

Well, here are some options, I guess.
- A gentle (or very not gentle!) character whose heart is touched by God
- A stubborn character that watches someone martyred for their faith and wants to have the same humility & strength as them.
- A proud character…

One of the things that’s coming to my mind regarding stakes, it that ultimately, the stakes are as high as they can get already. The quiet moment of handing over your life to God when you’ve grown up in a Christian home but have only just truly felt that overwhelming peace, as well as his majesty, is just as powerful as someone who surrenders to…[Read more]

For those who don’t know, we are now starting to work together to post the annual theme discussion, and this time around, it’s on the exciting art of the Writing Life. This course/section won’t be super practical for right now, but maybe we can be using it later, and being sure to build up and appreciate the amazing relationships with other…[Read more]

@trufflehunter @steward-of-the-pen Ooh, my story is like yours, too. I grew up in a Christian home and can’t exactly remember when I got saved because I was so young. I rededicated my life to Christ several years ago and haven’t looked back since. 🙂
I agree that it should have stakes (beyond the obvious stake inherent in conversion).…

@j-a-penrose *gives you coffee* *hopes you like coffee because there’s controversy on that subject* I totally relate; I guess we’ll have to push onward together 😛
Woo-wie! This is a toughie! I’ve never written this sort of thing before. We should make it very emotional. Like, life or death maybe? My immediate thoughts are that we need to give…[Read more]

Time: Monday 11th – Monday 25th
Word Limit: 2500
Level of Freaking Out by Guildmaster: High

It’s been forever since I’ve said anything. And agh I am so sorry.
This time, I was aware that I wouldn’t be about. However, in the hectic mess of life, I had assumed I had asked someone to step in until things at this end were sorted out. So, either I totally forgot to do that, or no one actually took it on and it got forever lost in the…[Read more]

@rebecca-w I suppose it’s both. XD I dunno, this kinda died before it really became a thing. I just thought it’d be nice to do a theme song of sorts, and we came up with one, but I don’t think it’s really stuck with the guild. 😛 It was fun while it lasted, though!

J.A.Penrose started the topic Characters | Lesson 4 : The Other Side in the forum Annual Theme Discussion 7 years, 5 months ago
A lot of the time, characters are written so that they are 100% good or bad. The protagonist is perfect, good looking, and maybe he has mild claustrophobia as a weakness. The villain is evil, kills puppies and shoots up old ladies in his spare time, and maybe every now and then he tortures someone who spilt his coffee instead of killing them.
If…[Read more]

J.A.Penrose started the topic Characters | Lesson 3 : The Motive in the forum Annual Theme Discussion 7 years, 5 months ago
The motive of your character is important. The motive is what drives your character forward, and makes every scene feel strong and meaningful. The character’s motive is what brings about the theme, and what pushes the plot along. Your plot is driven by your character’s motive. Therefore, the character motive could be the most important f…[Read more]
