@ariella-newheart Yeah, it would be a bit of a challenge. But then again, I think all the options would be pretty challenging, so I guess we have to pick our battle. 😛
Good point about having adults to set examples. That is definitely a huge part of a young child’s conversion, since they are depending on and looking up to the adults around them. So, we should probably work that into the story if we end up going with it.
For me, my parents told me the gospel often, and I believed that I was a sinner and that Jesus died to save me pretty much as soon as I was able to understand it. I really had no reason to question it, although I’m sure I was aware that not everyone believed it (my parents were quite clear that Jesus offered salvation to everyone, but that only those who chose to believe it would receive it). However, although I’d always believed it, and told my parents so, I didn’t make the conscious decision to follow Him right away. Then one day while I was riding in the car, the thought crossed my mind of, did I ever actually ask Jesus to forgive me? And right then, without saying a word to anyone, I prayed asking for forgiveness and told God I wanted to live for Him. I don’t remember how old I was (five or six I think) or what lead up to those thoughts, but I do distinctly remember the decision (and also various other little details, like what street we were turning on to and where we were going).
What stands out to me, looking back on it, is how simple and quick it was. The thought flitted across my mind, I made a decision, I prayed, and my thoughts moved on. There was no drawn out internal conflict, no intense emotion. I hadn’t fully grasped the weight of it yet, but I also didn’t have the doubts older people might struggle with—like how God could allow bad things to happen, or whether the Bible is really true. That’s where the simplicity of a childlike faith comes in.

We probably ought to decide on something in the next day or two so we can move towards writing a draft. What options are you all leaning towards?
