Hey guys, we haven’t just checked in on each other in a while.
So how are you doing? What’s motivating you to write these days and what’s keeping you back?

Daeus Lamb started the topic Why you should write outside in the forum 6 years, 11 months ago
Hey guys!
Writing outside has been a wonderful experience for me, and I wanted to sell you on the idea. 🙂
~~~~~
Why to write outside
I’m writing this post outside. The sun is shining, and some trees provide shade. The stream is full and bubbling and a wind stirs the leaves.
Have I convinced you yet? Write outside!
But to elaborate m…[Read more]
Here it is! The Favor (First Draft)
It’s just thrown together and not terribly long, but I’m hoping this gives us more time and space to really polish that second person voice. Edit away!
@daeus-lamb @piperbee I don’t have too much homework this weekend, but I can try! Sorry I wasn’t able to get started sooner, we’re in the end-of-the-year craze right now, and some major projects are being wrapped up.
If I can get something basic out in the next couple of days, we can do a quick editing phase? I’ll try to keep it short.
Also,…[Read more]
@piperbee Thanks! How did you decide on your editor?
Germaine Han replied to the topic Developmental Edits in the forum New Wessex Writing Discussions 6 years, 11 months ago
@piperbee Totally. I’m not the kind of person who asks for work to be edited until I know it’s as good as I can make it, so I’ll probably end up replotting the book and then rewriting it 😛
That’ll be fun.
So, I’m afraid I made a big mistake. I could use some recommendations (see below).
I have this free book I give to people who join my email list (see here: http://thescratchingquill.com/the-golden-ziggurat/). I’m planning to experiment with paid ads, driving traffic to that page. When people subscribe, I’ll market them a book. The hope is that…[Read more]
A basic premise could be that the reader walks with a woman when they see two soldiers dying at the edge of a battlefield. The reader’s powers are alluded to and he appears to be a supernatural being when he can perceive the two soldier’s dying thoughts and their pasts regarding a woman they loved. The reader hesitates, then…[Read more]
@piperbee I think the beauty of second person is that although we are talking to the reader, we can make them into whoever we want them to be for the story’s purpose. i.e. “After your mom died, you found yourself taking up her sword and hunting orcs in the forests that bordered your family’s lands.”
I kind of found a better understanding from…[Read more]
Adding on to @piperbee what if the reader also has to deduce who’s talking to them? And we could drop clues throughout the story. The narrator could be something abstract, too, like death or time or something from nature.
Also, I kind of want to do fantasy, but that’s just my preference. 🙂
I know, right??!? 😄 I should probably know this stuff…
@piperbee @sesi @r-m-archer @germaine-han
I like the idea of the narrator telling a story that the person doesn’t know… maybe when the person is a baby? Maybe an adoption story?
Hey guys,
Let’s do something RADICAL.
(That’s what Saxon Scribes do. Am I right?)
Let’s write a story in second person!
They say you can’t do it. They say don’t do it.
I’m like, “What are they trying to hide? 2nd person must be amazing!”
Anyway, I’m willing to give it a try. That’s what our newest prompt war is about: write a story in second…[Read more]
Yeah, I’ve really struggled with writing consistently each day, so I’m happy with 3,000 in a weeks time. xD
